A Favorite Pattern from Hills Creek Quilter

This is the umpteenth quilt I've made using the fun Quick Strippie pattern from maryquilts.com. It makes a wonderful quilt for a child. This one was finished in May 2020, and I have another identical top waiting to be quilted...hopefully soon.

COVID-19 Batik Scrap Quilt #3 from Hills Creek Quilter

More pandemic sewing -- and more batik scraps. No pattern; I just did my own math. Finished in early May 2020.

COVID-19 Batik Scrap Quilt #2 from Hills Creek Quilter

It's amazing how much one can accomplish when sitting at home for days on end. I finished this quilt in April of this year. Another one from my batik scraps. It's based on this quilt that I saw on maryquilts.com. I didn't use charm packs, just five-inch squares that I cut from my batiks.

Working Through My Batik Scraps -- COVID-19 Batik Scrap Quilt #1 from Hills Creek Quilter

Another quilt finished in March of this year, at the start of staying home with not much of anything else to do. It's amazing how quickly a quilt can be put together when all one does is stay home and away from people.

This is based on a quilt I saw online somewhere. I made up my own measurements and then went through my batik scraps. There were plenty to choose from (and some left for even more quilts). I liked this one a lot, so it spent the last six months on one of our sofas.

More Catching Up With 2020 Quilts from Hills Creek Quilter

I finished this quilt back in March, and it's in the hands of its new owners, friends of the family who had an anniversary in June. The free pattern is Bonnie Hunter's Strip Twist quilt (click here for the pattern), and it's one that I've made at least two times before. Easy, peasy. This one was from a Stonehenge jelly roll that I picked up at a great price at a quilt guild's yard sale a couple of years ago. (The colors are much better in person.)

Still Going Through Stash from Hills Creek Quilter

Yikes, we are halfway into October, and I still have several 2020 quilts to blog about!

This is made from a pattern called Chain Reaction (found free on Moda's website by clicking here). I made a smaller version (20 blocks) than the one on the website (42 blocks). All of the print fabrics were from various pieces in my stash, all about the size of a fat quarter. The background is Robert Kaufman's Kona White.

Bright Baby Quilt from Hills Creek Quilter

I'm finally getting around to posting about quilts that I've finished in 2020, and my goal is to post about all of them by the end of the year.

This is a baby quilt that I finished in January 2020 for a new addition on my husband's side of the family. When I was deciding on a design, I was told that the mother liked sunflowers and that the family raises bees, so I found the perfect backing fabric first and then worked on a pattern for the front. I found a few inspiration ideas for a ...

Fun "I Spy" Quilt from Hills Creek Quilter

Here's a quilt that I finished in December 2019, all made with fun fabrics in my scraps. Many of these fabrics were used in many of my quilts over the last 20 years. The pattern is called Jelly Sandwich by Fons and Porter. I didn't buy the pattern; I just figured it out by watching a video. I couldn't make the link to the video work on the blog, so if you're interested, just do a Google search on "Fons and Porter Jelly Sandwich", and you'll see the video.

Fun With a Jelly Roll from Hills Creek Quilter

Here's another quilt that I finished back in December 2019, this time using a jelly roll that had been in my stash for a few years. The free pattern is Jelly Roll Twist by the Fat Quarter Shop.

Who Doesn't Love a "Free" Quilt? from Hills Creek Quilter

I'm still catching up posting about quilts that I've finished in the last year, most of them from fabric that was in my stash.

This one is made using the "jelly roll race" (aka "1600 quilt") pattern, but instead of using 2 1/2-inch strips, it's made with 3-inch strips, most of which I picked up on a "free table" at one of my guild's events. I added a few fabrics from my stash, and it made a very large throw-size quilt. It now resides in a friend's house.

If you're interested in the ...

Baby Quilt from Hills Creek Quilter

We added a new member to the extended family last year, so of course I had to make a quilt. I had seen something similar to this online (no pattern, just a photo), so I just drafted a pattern and used fabric from my stash/scraps. Several of the fabrics were also in the quilt that I had made for the baby's older sibling a few years ago. (see last photo in this post)

Let's Get This Going Again from Hills Creek Quilter

OK, now that it's been a year since my last blog post, it's time to start posting again. I've made a number of quilts since last May, so a few posts are in my future.

This is a quilt from a pack of 30s fat quarters that I had won in a giveaway back in September 2009! I just added some matching solid-ish fabrics from my stash. The free pattern is from filminthefridge.com (click here for the link).

Not enough of the purple for the back, so I added some other pieces from my stash...

Scrap Happy from Hills Creek Quilter

A couple of posts ago, I wrote about cutting my scrap fabrics into usable pieces like strips and squares. I cut up enough of them (100 different fabrics) to make this quick and easy scrap quilt. There are 99 blocks on the front and one on the back that became the label.

The pattern is "Boxed Squares" from maryquilts.com. Click here for the free pattern. Mary's site is filled with lots of free patterns.
