Basting a Double Sided Quilt from Adventurous Quilter

Today I finally basted my double sided, improv scrappy rainbow quilt!
I always get lots of questions when I baste a double sided quilt so I made this video to share a few tips and my process. I have other Youtube videos with tips about spray basting too, so pop over and check out my channel if you need a few tips.
Once you quilt it and do your final trim, you'll be glad you put in the effort!
I love this quilt! Each side by my estimate has in excess of 1200 scraps and I even did a ...

Another Busy Day from Quilts....etc.

But I did get just a little sewing done – this section of Noriko’s Star is ready to join to the main body of the quilt – I will work on that over the next couple days – one side doesn’t have a white edging on it because of the way it lines up when […]

Family Time at Hawkes Bay from Romany Quilting

The last four days have  been spent in our caravan at Napier NZMCA Park.    There was a sad reason for our trip, to attend the memorial service for my brother-in-law Dennis.  My sister Kathleen passed away three years ago during Covid lockdown, and her husband Dennis died last week.  We were pleased to attend and support my niece and nephew, and their adult children.  It was a nice service, sad at times of course, but plenty of happy memories.  Dennis enjoyed writing and several of his poems were showcased, I particularly liked this one, very apt at this stage in ...

Time for me to take a blog break. No posts or making comments for the month of May.

I will jump back in with lots of enthusiasm in June.

Maybe these will be ripe by then?

Lupins from The Cozy Quilter

I was under the weather for a few days this past week and did not go near my sewing machine all week.  I managed to add some more stitches to my Lupins cross stitch and it is finally looking like more than just a purple blob.  There are still lots more purple stitches to do though...

Last week, Jill asked me what book I was reading.  My daughter gave me this book for Christmas--it is about a midwife in the late 1700's in Maine.  Excellent read--I highly recommend it!

I lead a monthly book club and I am currently ...

Bush Garlands 11, 12 from Virtual Quilter

I have thought that the background colour of some of these designs is wrong, but then I remember that bush fires leave behind a blackened landscape, which is home to a lot of seeds of plants which start growing after rain, and are soon producing flowers.

Once the flora starts showing their colours, the fauna also come out to enjoy the new growth, including our native hopping mouse which is unrelated to the average mouse, but is part of the marsupial species which thrive in Australia.

What I’ve Been Working On from Quarter-Inch Capers

It’s been a busy week here. The weather has been gloomy; just enough light rain to keep the car looking dirty. I was able to get a couple of quilts finished. Quilting and binding done on this one

This is one made by a customer’s mother. She brought the extra fabric for the borders. It was a full size quilt, but I added the borders to make it a queen.

The fabrics look to be from the 1950’s. This one looks like a dress my grandmother had

I put light blue on the back.
I finished the ...

A Little Thrifty Help Please?? from Jo's Country Junction

I was at the thrift store and saw these…They are embroidery kits. I had shown you one in an earlier post. I had wondered if Jazz might like to stitch and finish them for the hospital she supports in Houston. She said yes so not to long ago I went back to the thrift store …

April 2024 Quilt and Life Update from My Quilty World

Our theme this year, JOY!!!  I believe we all need a bit of a help in adding this to our lives.  If you didn't get a chance to check out the post explaining it all --- here is the LINK to the initial post.  I'm looking forward to the direction this can take us all, but especially myself, if I give it a fair shot.  Sometimes stepping out of comfort zones is

Friday check in: some out, more in from With Strings Attached

Setting up

Our guild hosts Raffle Mania every year.  We bring quilt-related items we no longer need to own.  We get free tickets based on our attendance for the year and can buy additional tickets.   For me:  I brought 100 yards of fabric (batiks, green, red, Christmas, and brown/tan in 2-gal. ziploc bags and the rest of the 30's repros).  I got 12 free tickets and spent $20 for 35 more.

I dropped tickets in the bags for the fabric that really appealed to me.  I had tickets left so I dropped them into random bags.  That unscientific ...

Scrappy Saturday from Urban Quilter

The RSC24 color for May is pink which works out great because the last week of April I started working on a collaborative quilt for a friend who is dealing with medical stuff and we decided that pink and green scrappy was what we wanted to use.

I went through my pinks (and greens) and pulled a bunch which we cut into strips to use in our planned quilt. So far I half of the blocks for the top are pieced and the other half are almost done.

I plan to do 6 pink log cabin blocks and the heart ...

One Monthly Goal: May 2024 from Urban Quilter

Green scrap quilt in progress
My March goal was to machine quilt a cheater for the dog, which I  completed. By the time I was done my swirl meanders were looking pretty good. I started quilting a top with the same pattern for my Guild's charity project and my swirl meander continues to improve. I didn't set an April goal--the whole month somehow got away from me.

In May I want to finish the green scrap quilt I pieced for the RSC. I need to finish the quilting (which I started but haven't gotten far with) and ...

My creative week.... a little house for my pins and some paintings from Not Afraid of Color

This week I was distracted by physical pain, but I managed to compete this wee pin cushion!

There are videos of people teaching versions but none gave me a pattern... I found one on line

SunCatcherStudio.com

at first I cut it out large since it was drawn to scale. Too big for a pin cushion but great for a box... so then I cut it out as shown.

I used pink felt scraps since the color of the month at rainbow scrap challenge is pink! yea! It looks wonky in these photos but it's a precious little sturdy ...

But it was worth all the effort. I even decided to tie them in neat little bundles!
So they are looking super cute on my shelves!
It'll be so much easier to find fat quarters in colours I need now when I delve into this stash.

Pieces of My Life ~ Block #6 - Hours from Melva Loves Scraps

Welcome back to Melva Loves Scraps and the Pieces of My Life Sew Along! Block #6 is named "Hours".

I remember being asked about my age as a kid... the typical, "how old are you?"  I went through a phase of responding with a very precise "I am 7-1/2 (or 8-1/2) years old."  I must have recently become familiar with fractions (probably from baking cookies on Saturday mornings ;) and I once answered even more precisely that I was 8-3/4 years old. LOL! I remember that my brother made fun of me.  Apparently, every day counted for me ...
