I had a day free on Tuesday, and it was a rainy day, perfect for hiding out in my basement and putting thread into fabric. I have had a total lack of inspiration lately, and I think it is because I just don’t need anything for myself or for a gift. So I turned my attention to charity, as this often can get me rolling again. I haven’t made anything for Project Linus in over a year, and I had a pile of children’s prints that needed using up. I pulled out the bag and set to ...

Last Saturday afternoon our Sew Vintage group met and continued our strawberry theme.
Several years ago I bought this book.
There are several really cute pincushion patterns and lots of creative ideas.
But truthfully, this is the one that caught my attention.
I had this idea if you use men's shirts for making quilt blocks, wouldn't it be cool to cut off the cuffs and make pincushions??
So, I bought a mans shirt for $1.00 from the thrift store and gave it a try.
Isn't he cute?? I did not follow the exact directions given in the book, but just did my own thing. And I still think he ... read more
I didn't get as far as a complete layout of my pink/green quilt but this is a sample of the variety in the blocks. This is one of each of the 23 combinations and there are 6 blocks alike in each combination. I put them on the wall as pinwheels but they are probably going to change when I get to the whole layout. I still need to press the majority of them.
I have these 2 blocks leftover from the pink/blue layout that I might be able to use in the pink/green quilt. Most of ... read more
After promising you I'd always do my blog posts on Friday nights NZ time, I slipped one in on Sunday, so if you missed seeing my Purple Zone quilt you can click back and read about it here.
I've got more quilts from the exhibition to blog about, but first on to my shopping from Capital Quilters' exhibition last weekend.
We had five retailers at the exhibition and I think I bought something from nearly every one of them.

I do enjoy a good Flosstube video on Youtube and one of my Favourites is Helen D who is East Coast Crafter on Instagram. The pattern was purchased from Cobweb Corner and Helen has thoughtfully chosen a chart which the designer was happy to make available in PDF format for overseas stitchers. I believe the PDF of the pattern can now be purchased direct from the designer, Erin Eizabeth Designs.
This quilt is for a little guy turning one year soon and he loves the farm and all about farm animals and life.

Thank goodness, for a month now I have been picking strawberries and I’m so done with it – it wore me out! What got picked yesterday was eaten for strawberry shortcake in the evening – with the few blueberries tossed in with the last of the pound cake slices I had frozen a month ago! […]

read moreThe Pieced Bouquet pattern appeared in the New York Daily News on Monday, January 8th, 1934.
A late addition to quiltdom, this design is almost modern in character. It can be varied by using a different print in each block, giving the quilt the appearance of an old-fashioned garden. The border is made of strips of green and yellow.

Then, there was some weird issues going with InLinkz which seems to have been sorted out before the link up concluded. I've been using InLinkz all these years and its very rare that they have technical issues. read moreThis morning, I was up early. Kept waking up because of Patrick getting us serval times for the bathroom. Every time he has something deep fried, he pays for it. It's all his chemo issues. I'm not liking this chemo treatment; he's having more issues than before. He doesn't think so, but I see it wearing him out.
Ron and I walked today. We got in 4 laps. Then I came in to find Patrick falling asleep in his chair. I went downstairs to cut backing and batting for 2 quilt tops and one set for ...
read moreHappy Friday! I have some personal projects to show for the first time in a long while. These baby gifts are for a few friends having little boys. I love making these 60 degree triangle quilts for babies, so simple and dramatic. I like to choose a backing fabric and then pull fabrics for the front based on the colors in the backing. (You can see a couple others here.)
This family is honoring a grandfather who was a pilot, so mama-to-be especially loved the backing fabric. I was happy to use some sock-monkey fabric on the front that I ...

I got sick of picking out blocks to use, so just added quilting motifs and love the results.
It would be interesting to see a lot more quilts with less piecing and applique and more quilting based on the pieced and applique blocks. Something to consider when I start another quilt!

Barbara and I have been working on a scrap quilt drawn from the 2 inch strip bin. It is finished to the stage of needing border and backing fabric. We didn’t find anything in our stash of fabrics, so it will go with us to a fabric shopping trip next week. At ...
