To-Do-List Tuesday 5-14-24 from Quarter-Inch Capers

I haven't written a blog post since last Tuesday so I should have plenty to report. LOL. That's not really the case. I've been busy with other non-sewing things, and I've been somewhat unmotivated to work on any of my projects. I did, however, keep referring back to my last post to see what I needed to be focusing on and ended up finishing the week on a pretty good note.

  1. Quilt three customer quilts. Yes.

The first one had a pieced back, which I thought was pretty cool
The third quilt is quilted, but not ...

Ask Jo: Cancer Update from Jo's Country Junction

I’ve had a lot of people asking how I’m doing…if I have any side effects left, and what’s the plan for the future. Rather than answer all those comments and emails individually, I thought I would answer them all here in one blog post. If you are new here, I have thyroid cancer. I was …

Have You Seen My Stitchy Color Bundles? from Christa Quilts

Stitchy is my fabric collection from Benartex that features 5 different geometric prints in 5 different colorways ranging from light to dark. I usually like to keep my fabric lines to about 20-25 prints so they don’t break the bank and that’s been working really great so far.

Click here to get your hands on Stitchy, my 8th fabric collection with Benartex.

I went with a “sewing & sharing” theme on this collection with fun names like Hashtags, Stitches, Sunny Day, Crossweave, and Threaded Lines. While supplies last, you can grab half yard bundles of any of the five ...

Back to quilting and a road trip from WAZOO! Newsbits

Last week it was back to the studio and trying to get my queue of quilts whittled down a bit. There had to be a balance between the quilting and the repairing, though. I have divided my time between the two in order to keep up. Let's start with a construction order...

The job began with 11 blocks, 8 with flowers and three with baskets. To make a balanced quilt, I made one basket block to match the others.

Next, I added some sashing ...

also inner and outer borders. Once the top was sewn, I quilted it.

A Good Day from Quilting My Way

This morning, I was up with Patrick. He went golfing and I waited about an hour then went out. I went and got the car washed. Then I headed to the bank. Once that was done, I was off to Safeway. I saved 70% on my groceries. Thanks to using the app.

Came home and called Ron to go walking. We walked 5 laps today. It was nice to get another lap in since it's been a while. We used to do 7, so we are getting back up there. He didn't get to walk much in CA ...

Second Border on Bramble Blooms QAL from Fret Not Yourself

Earth’s crammed with heaven,

And every common bush afire with God,
But only he who sees, takes off his shoes,
The rest sit round it and pluck blackberries,
And daub their natural faces unaware.
~Elizabeth Barrett Browning

Quilting

I quilted and mailed the quilt my granddaughter put together while visiting last month. Just in time for her sixth birthday. How exciting to see another generation of quilters in our family. It took most of the evenings. My remaining time involved moving bits and pieces around on BB1.

Yes, Audrey suggested applique in the first border. I didn't do ...

Di’s Dream Time 7, 8 from Virtual Quilter

Pretty to look at, and pretty fiddly to make.

Just a thought … if we all made quilts as fiddly as these, we would save a lot of money spent on fabric!

I love both of these … maybe the second one is my favourite.

Quilting

Audrey's linkup encouraged me to push on BB1 but it's still not complete. Here's the second round, a pink zig zag. All those points took way too much time and didn't all turn out as well as my usual work. But I'm pressing on.

These are leftover Crossroads blocks from a class with Sujata Shah. {There are still more. Sheesh.} I love them as a border but it may be too bright.

So I made a few more. {And this is how ...

Thrift Store Goodies from Jo's Country Junction

Sewing Studio Tour - One year on! from Adventurous Quilter

One year ago I was setting up my new studio after repatriating to Australia. So I'm currently reflecting on what works well and what I would do differently...

I love:

The white and wood aesthetic amongst all the colour of the fabrics! Here's some more specifics.
  • IKEA Billy bookcases to store my near solids i.e tonals, blenders, low volume etc. They make a great photo backdrop too

  • IKEA Bror metal shelving to store my vintage sewing machines, project boxes etc.

  • IKEA height adjustable cutting table legs with wood tabletop top from Bunnings (Aussie equivalent of Home Depot ...

The Lighting Strike Sound from Patchwork Times by Judy Laquidara

While we were in Louisiana, I checked our cameras and it made me think about checking for the night the lightning struck while Vince and I were outside. Because it was 10:40 p.m. and we were getting ready to go to bed, I wasn’t dressed for blog pictures so Vince separated out the sound. I...

Amazon Delights, Shopping, Pileated Woodpecker from Canadian Needle Nana

We are doing well with the healthier eating. The weekly box of fresh vegetables and fruit has certainly helped. There was a large cauliflower, potatoes and green beans lately that I used in one of those mushroom soup casseroles...actually I switched to cream of chicken and it was good too. I also made a lentil, pea and bean soup with added carrots and sweet potatoes from the box. Not foods Tony would like but he enjoyed the soup. And for me, I can make a meal of a salad. I always add carrots and oranges. I'm still using ...

Strawberry Jam from Patchwork Times by Judy Laquidara

WILD FLOWERS from Q-BITS

Over the years this has been one of my favorite blocks to paper piece.  I have made it in several sizes, in different settings, and various fabrics.

THE STATS:  Wild Flowers, 2024, 30"x30", Paper Pieced, Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted.  The number nerd report:  93 different fabrics.

For me, an enjoyable part of doing any quilt is in the planning.  A scrap quilt often appears random, but one with 93 different fabrics usually takes some thought (or as they say -- curated).  Here are my cards that were part of my planning process.

Some of my other quilts based on ...

Spring Market Roundup from Tamarack Shack

Thought I would do an update on my bag making venture and the three spring markets I attended.  In March I was a vendor at the Barwick Market and I was really impressed with the organizer and all the advertising she did for the event.  Lots of traffic through and really good sales. I was actually surprised at how well my sale were for a March sale, it was better than a few of my Christmas markets.  Here is what my table looked like. Its nice when they have 8 foot table, that is a question I make sure to ...

Sew & Tell ~ May 13, 2024 from Melva Loves Scraps

I'll be keeping it short today... I have a date with "Jaquie" the seam ripper to remove the borders on the third of three memory quilts.  This was the most difficult quilt of the three.  It just did not want to come together easily.  I don't know why...  I even auditioned my border choices.

I kept telling myself that the borders were fine.  They bugged me until I relented and grabbed Jaquie.  I talked of my wanderlust last week and my longing to go camping.  Well, we are currently stuck in a season of rain which makes mud ...
