Swedish Death Cleaning vs. Sparks Joy from The Quilt Quine

Regular readers of the blog will know that every now and then I enjoy a bit of organisation, usually spurred by procrastination. Previously, I have read Marie Kondo’s book about how your belongings should “Spark Joy” and I have briefly folded my clothes accordingly until I can’t be bothered anymore. The problem is that I have a reasonably capacious old house and a love of junk shops, and if I am honest, could be a bit of a hoarder.

The term “Swedish Death Cleaning” has piqued my interest – the idea that you should start clearing out your belongings ...

Stitching News from Angie Quilts

I started the day with high expectations of snapping photos for my blog. There were many interesting quilts being worked on in class and lovely shopping customers brought their work to show and to get help with. But... they all came rolling in so fast, one or two in then two or three out, like a conveyor belt. Everyone gets excellent customer service, I might have mentioned that once or twice and before I knew it, class ladies had all packed up as it was way past closing time for my very own shop.
Deb, very kindly, unpacked her quilt ...

Inside and outside.............. from Exuberant Color

I spent a lot of time outside yesterday but first, inside.

I hand sewed about 45" on the Charley in the Forest binding.

I trimmed the prints and solids star quilt.  The backing is 3 fabrics.  The one in the middle is a limey green with pink circles.  Since they are opposites on the color wheel I don't know how to describe the color with the mix.

I pulled some fabrics as possible binding.  I'm not opposed to having a light binding because this quilt will probably be for a young person and the darker fabrics may be ...

Stitching Stuff: Week 17 of 2024 from Life In Pieces

It's not been one of my better weeks.  Thank goodness for handwork.  I'm off the pain medication and can handle the stairs without a crutch.  So definite improvement.  It's still a bit uncomfortable to use the foot pedal on the sewing machine for very long, but I've been able to sew for hour long stretches the last couple of days.

  • 15 minute days/week = 7/7 days
  • 15 minute days/April = 27/27 days
  • 15 minute days/2024 = 118/118 days
  • Success rate = 100%

With the handwork sessions, I've been able to keep my stitching ...

Weather from Patchwork Times by Judy Laquidara

Dang . . my recent posts are entitled “lightning” and “weather”. We watched the tornadoes cross Oklahoma tonight and I’m praying for my Oklahoma friends. If you’re reading this, please check in when you can. My guess is that those of you in the worst hit areas probably don’t have power or cell phone service...

Enjoyed Time With Mom from Quilting My Way

This morning, I was up and playing my game by 6:30 am. I slept really well and when I woke, I couldn't go back to sleep. Even when I wanted to!

I heated up the quilt room downstairs and was about ready to go down when mom called to say her washer wasn't working. She had wet clothes in the wash and need to get them spin dried. She also asked if she could bring another load over to do. I told her that was fine. The washer is scheduled to be fixed or looked at on ...

Anne’s Autumn Annuals 7, 8 from Virtual Quilter

Very pretty, but would be very fiddly to make.

Second design is very pretty, and would be less fiddly to make, either because there are less blocks, or the blocks can be bigger for a larger bed..

My Sew Together Bag from The Cozy Quilter

I bought myself a kit to make a Sew Together Bag at QuiltCon in February...it came with a booklet of instructions which I have been following carefully to make my bag.  I have one more zipper and some binding to add before it is done.  The dark turquoise square is a wool needle landing.  This has been a fun project to work on and I look forward to finishing it this week.

I worked on my cross stitch Lupins this week too, adding more purple stitches as well as a few cream coloured ones.  If you use your imagination ...

Feeling Peachy - Mica in Island Batik Fabrics from Sew Preeti Quilts

I wanted to make at least one quilt using Island Batik Fabrics, for the Pantone Quilt Challenge 2024.

There are so many beautiful peachy hues to choose from.

Island Batik Fabrics

Cantaloupe (Island Batik Basic) from the Opulent Oranges was the closest match for Peach Fuzz.

Cantaloupe

Carrot

So many ideas and so little time. I wanted to create something simple and minimalist different from Blush (a Colorwash inspired quilt top), and Peach on Earth (improv pieced quilt).

After playing with shapes, fabrics and layouts in EQ8, I chose this design.

EQ8 Mock-Up

First Block

The design took a week ...

Peach on Earth from Sew Preeti Quilts

Although I had completed Blush, I had plenty of strips left over. It was time to play improv.

Strips and Scraps

Pop of Green

As I pieced strips of varying lengths together, I added a skinny strip of green fabric to add a pop of contrast! What do you think?

Peach, Coral, Gold and Green :-)

Here is the finished quilt. I have named it "Peach on Earth".

Peach on Earth, 42" by 45"

Giraffes on the Backing

Finishing at 42" by 45", "Peach on Earth" will be making an appearance in the Quilts (Throw or Larger) category.

Here are a ...

More Ruler Work and FMQ from The Knitting Quilter

I missed I Like Thursday this past week. I went shopping for my Mother of the Groom dress. It was the second time I went to a bridal shop trying on gowns. The first time I went my daughter was with me. I liked the gowns but I only tried on 6 gowns and felt it wasn't enough to decide. I went to a different place Thursday with my daughter and future daughter-in-law and I found my dress! It's all ordered. What a relief! Now I'm back to my regular routine!  I wanted to show you some ...
