Get ruthless! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Despite the fact that I had that Facebook Live yesterday and things had to get organized for that, I took time to clean out a drawer in the filing cabinet. OK, so I didn't finish, but I made a good effort.

I was only going to pull a few files and then decided to take them all out.

The empty drawer

There are four drawers, and I picked one. The files got scattered onto the kitchen table.

The kitchen table as the sorting station

I went through them one by one. OH!!! I know there are folders for some ...

Project Linus Inspiration from From My Carolina Home

I had a day free on Tuesday, and it was a rainy day, perfect for hiding out in my basement and putting thread into fabric. I have had a total lack of inspiration lately, and I think it is because I just don’t need anything for myself or for a gift. So I turned my attention to charity, as this often can get me rolling again. I haven’t made anything for Project Linus in over a year, and I had a pile of children’s prints that needed using up. I pulled out the bag and set to ...

Strawberries & sunflowers from My Sewing Room

Last Saturday afternoon our Sew Vintage group met and continued our strawberry theme.

Cindy gave us each a pattern, and some adorable strawberry fabrics.  She had a pretty vintage glass dish full of these hand pieced little strawberries and showed how to make them.  My first one just needs the felt leaves and stem added.

We've exchanged pinks and reds in previous months, with an exchange of greens happening this month.  Next month we'll exchange backgrounds.  That will give everyone an awesome scrappy pile of 2.5" squares to cut for these blocks.  Mine are all collected in ...

Off the Cuff from Happy Cottage Quilter

Several years ago I bought this book.

There are several really cute pincushion patterns and lots of creative ideas.

But truthfully, this is the one that caught my attention.

I had this idea if you use men's shirts for making quilt blocks, wouldn't it be cool to cut off the cuffs and make pincushions??

So, I bought a mans shirt for $1.00 from the thrift store and gave it a try.

Isn't he cute?? I did not follow the exact directions given in the book, but just did my own thing. And I still think he ...

A sample of the pink/green............ from Exuberant Color

I didn't get as far as a complete layout of my pink/green quilt but this is a sample of the variety in the blocks.  This is one of each of the 23 combinations and there are 6 blocks alike in each combination.  I put them on the wall as pinwheels but they are probably going to change when I get to the whole layout.  I still need to press the majority of them.

I have these 2 blocks leftover from the pink/blue layout that I might be able to use in the pink/green quilt.

 Most of ...

Exhibition shopping from Wendy's Quilts and More

After promising you I'd always do my blog posts on Friday nights NZ time, I slipped one in on Sunday, so if you missed seeing my Purple Zone quilt you can click back and read about it here

I've got more quilts from the exhibition to blog about, but first on to my shopping from Capital Quilters' exhibition last weekend.

We had five retailers at the exhibition and I think I bought something from nearly every one of them.

First up was this very interesting fabric from e bond for Free Spirit Fabrics ...

Friday finish - Bee SAL from Just Sew Sue

I do enjoy a good Flosstube video on Youtube and one of my Favourites is Helen D who is East Coast Crafter on Instagram. The pattern was purchased from Cobweb Corner and Helen has thoughtfully chosen a chart which the designer was happy to make available in PDF format for overseas stitchers. I believe the PDF of the pattern can now be purchased direct from the designer, Erin Eizabeth Designs.

The threads are all DMC which I can purchase locally and I chose a 32 count fabric called eureka by Fox and Rabbit instead of the called for 28 Count ...

The Last of the Strawberry’s from Quilts....etc.

Thank goodness, for a month now I have been picking strawberries and I’m so done with it – it wore me out!  What got picked yesterday was eaten for strawberry shortcake in the evening – with the few blueberries tossed in with the last of the pound cake slices I had frozen a month ago!  […]

Cross Stitch Update from Jo's Country Junction

I didn’t get a lot of stitching done this week. I’m still in my whirlwind that I promise to tell you about this week. I’ve got the all-clear to talk about it but now just need a couple of pictures to tell the story. In the meantime, you’ll have to make do with a cross-stitch …

Pieced Bouquet and Quilt of 8,066 Hexagons from The Chester County Criswell Quilt

The Pieced Bouquet pattern appeared in the New York Daily News on Monday, January 8th, 1934.

A late addition to quiltdom, this design is almost modern in character.  It can be varied by using a different print in each block, giving the quilt the appearance of an old-fashioned garden.  The border is made of strips of green and yellow.

A Quiet Day from Quilting My Way

This morning, I was up early. Kept waking up because of Patrick getting us serval times for the bathroom. Every time he has something deep fried, he pays for it. It's all his chemo issues. I'm not liking this chemo treatment; he's having more issues than before. He doesn't think so, but I see it wearing him out.

Ron and I walked today. We got in 4 laps. Then I came in to find Patrick falling asleep in his chair. I went downstairs to cut backing and batting for 2 quilt tops and one set for ...

Baby Goodies from Kat & Cat Quilts

Happy Friday! I have some personal projects to show for the first time in a long while. These baby gifts are for a few friends having little boys. I love making these 60 degree triangle quilts for babies, so simple and dramatic.  I like to choose a backing fabric and then pull fabrics for the front based on the colors in the backing. (You can see a couple others here.)

This family is honoring a grandfather who was a pilot, so mama-to-be especially loved the backing fabric. I was happy to use some sock-monkey fabric on the front that I ...

Mixture of Sun and Clouds on Free Motion Mavericks from Quilting & Learning

Hello! I hope that Spring has found you and that you have a little sunshine in your days. We've had lots of clouds and rain, but I've been busy making my own Suns and clouds in the studio, getting the second part of my Outdoor Hanging Sculpture ready.

Finished Suns

The three Suns are ready - there's Sunrise, Noon Sun and Sunset. They were finished so I hung them out in the back yard to see how they would do.

Crazy Thoughts from Adventurous Quilter

When I first created my English paper piecing tumbler templates for use with two inch fabric squares, I truly thought they might be too small and perhaps even impossible to piece. I was just focused on creating something that would help me use up a scrap stash of 2" squares that I knew I had already invested many hours in scrap cutting over the past decade plus!
But a couple of months later I am glad I took a chance and created the template and made a test tumbler:

They are actually quicker & easier to piece than the larger hexagons ...
