The Upside Down Dog from Patchwork Times by Judy Laquidara

Last night as I was stitching, I knew both dogs were sitting on my lap but I cracked up when I looked down and saw Cooper. Almost all the time, Cooper sleeps on his back with his feet up in the air. There he was, sleeping on his back with his nose up in the...

Midweek: swap box and all but the label from With Strings Attached

I signed up for an "anything goes" swap box.  Get a box of quilty stuff, keep some, add to the box, send it off.  Participants have a week to fulfill their commitment.  When the box arrived here on Monday I treated it like a hot potato.  I took a few things, added a lot more, and shipped it to Oregon yesterday.  24 yards of fabric have left the house (along with a few patterns and some miscellaneous notions.)

Right:  when I opened the box.

Food Hacks, Barred Owls, BB Border Design, Pink Hour Glass Blocks from Canadian Needle Nana

I just have to share the end of another successful Barred Owls of Indiana season. I so enjoyed watching these three grow and then branch successfully off into the big wide world. I really like how the owl parents are so attentive and make sure all three, even the youngest and smallest, hatched days after the first, gets plenty of food. Their eyesight is thought to be better than ours so imagine emerging from the nest box and seeing all the world in front of them for the first time- no wonder they look transfixed.

BTW, the Cottage Garden Samplings ...

Rainy Wednesday from South Jersey Quilter

The high temps only lasted a few days, then dropped back into the 50's and 60's. Today is dark and rainy.

Our gorgeous Julianna had her prom! The kids are much smarter than my generation, they go in groups rather than pairs a lot of the time.

Weber"s Drive In is open for the summer! So good!

Work in Progress Wednesday! 63% done!

Our monthly house cleaner is here, yay! And today is lunch with the nurses, just one nurse today.

Heather was here on Monday and brought us a butterfly bush for Mother's Day. She ...

At Halfway - from Quiltville's Quips & Snips!

Halfway done - with the last block in row 4 which means I have reached halfway to complete on the hand quilting of my Ladder Star quilt.

I couldn't keep my eyes open long enough to finish that block so I could move the hoop to the first block in row 5 which would put me on the downhill side -

But that's okay.  There is more evening hand quilting time to come.

Putting that hoop in my lap is like saying "What a day!" to a good friend as I settle in for the evening to put some more ...

Missouri Star Quilt Company from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was my day to visit Missouri Star Quilt Co. yesterday. I really did not know what to expect beyond lots of quilt shops and lots of fabric. All the stores on Hamilton's main drag open at 9:00. (Just FYI, everything is closed on Sundays.) When I arrived, there was already a crowd of women outside waiting for the store to open. It was 8:59 a.m., and we were an impatient bunch.

Stepping back a few paces, this mural was painted on the side of the building.

Here's the accompanying information ...

Paducah and Beyond from Humble Quilts

I loved this exhibit of the US Presidents!

This quilt "spoke" volumes!

Then we hit the road and stopped to see random and not so random things!

We went up up and away in the arch! That was fun!

The view from the other side of the Missouri River

Quick! What's the capital of Missouri?

We stopped at a few of the recommended quilt shops and antique stores.

We like to get off the beaten path sometimes.

I love seeing new areas that I haven't been before! I've covered quite a bit of ground lately!

Moda Blockheads-Spinning Star from Moda Lissa

Moda’s Blockheads

Are you following along on Moda’s weekly block series? Blockheads 5? Today is my day to share a quilt block pattern.

I choose a block that was inspired by an antique Americana quilt. I somehow rembered this block in my mind and just jumped in to create it. I made several different versions and finally decided on this one.

Spinning Star

This block is certainly a skill builder. Anything that has eight points all coming together could be problematic. Moda made a video with tips and tricks and here is the link.

Spinning star is assembled ...

Pineapple Quilt under the Needle and Other UFO updates from Grandma's Red Needle

My 2024 goal is to finish some UFOs.
Beginning January, my UFO list looked like this! Not very uplifting, right?!
There has been other funnier things to work on and that famous squirrel has popped in off and on too!

No more pink RSC for me (here and here)! Except a small update to be posted Saturday. That means I can concentrate on other pending things.

Yesterday I pulled out the scrappy pineapple quilt. It was already thread basted (last year), and set aside because I wasn't sure how to quilt it. I didn't feel for doing the ...

Saying good-bye from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I'm home! I can't even call it a travel day since I did a lot during the day and my flight was at 7:15 p.m. The plane arrived, and we left early. We arrived 22 minutes early last night, but with the time change, I wasn't home until 1 a.m. I think a nap will be in order today!

We arrived at the same gate we left at, and let's say the airport was deserted at that late hour. Another flight had arrived shortly before us, and our baggage was coming at the ...

Charity Quilting from Becca's Crazy Projects

Simple fruity squares. Pieced and quilted by me. (Yes, that corner block was made with some leftover squares.)
I really like how this one came out. I didn't really have a plan when I started. It sort of fell together. Pieced and quilted by me. Both are going to Annapolis Quilts for Kids

If you want to contribute but don't have the time or skills, you can support the national Quilts for Kids by going directly to their website and clicking DONATEI don't earn anything from this link.

{I've Been Reading} Eleven Huskies from Michelle's Romantic Tangle

 Eleven Huskies by Philipp Schott

This one didn't hold my attention the way that Six Ostriches, the second book in the series, did. Of course I was worried about the poisoned dogs, but the actual murders? Those were felt like an isolated event that had little to do with Peter and his wife's canoe trip. What did pull me in and keep me turning pages was a harrowing scene about halfway through the book. Suddenly I was very interested in what was going to happen next. I love the characters and the way they feel more like real ...

Welcome to Wednesday Wait Loss! WWL is a place where you can share photos of quilts you’re working on and get encouragement to finish them from our Wednesday Wait Loss group!

First let me tell you what I've been up to

Today marks the beginning of a celebration on Instagram called an IG Loop. Visit me on Instagram ...

Kombucha from Patchwork Times by Judy Laquidara

My poor kombucha scoby has been neglected for months. I left it sitting in a batch of fermenting tea and I think once I added fresh tea. Look how thick it grew to be. Monday I made fresh tea, pulled off a good size piece of the scoby and have it brewing up some fresh...

Saturday Sampler & more from My Sewing Room

Month 2 for Saturday Sampler will be 12 of these black and white blocks.  I had to buy a new iron before sewing these since my iron had died on Sunday.  The new one is a Hamilton Beach, and it's a heavy one.  I think I'm going to like it.  I don't put water in my irons, but I do like a good heavy one for my sewing projects.

All of the pieces have been cut for the 12 blocks, and I've begun sewing.  The 4-patch units are done with strip sets, which are all sewn ...

To Do Tuesday #74 - Getting back on track from The Quilt Yarn

My last recorded goals were:

 - continue to knit up the sock
- continue with the backfilling of the wholecloth
- maybe piece another fox which is already cut out and ready to go.

Now this is a while ago...things really got out of whack due to our kitchen renovation which has been dragging on and on. However, we are able to cook again (big plus!!) and there is an end in sight (or so one hopes).

I did finish my socks in all this mess and managed to continue on the wholecloth in starts and stops, however have not done any ...

Perfect match from Happy Cottage Quilter

Remember when I shared a shortcut to making half square triangles?  Well I pieced them all together and found some matching fabric for a nice border.

The green fabric matched perfectly with the leaves on the fabric.

That is another charity quilt for the nursing home project for Christmas. Yay!

Cutting and sewing............ from Exuberant Color

Yesterday morning was cutting time for the pink and green quilt.  This is the new batch that I cut.

There were a few pieces already cut that just needed something to pair with.  I got these ready to sew and then exchanged the pink ones from the top left and bottom right corners with each other.  All were sewn last night, 6 in each pile.  Now it is time to turn on the iron.

This is the before photo of the Lenten Rose area.... and

this is after I cleaned up the area and edged the bed with some cast ...

WIP Wednesday - Snap Happy from Just Sew Sue

I'd better be snappy with this quilt along as it finishes on 4 June.  The difficult bit for me for the camera block was choosing colours. I have a lot of turquoise and pink in my photo blocks so started with that and used the same cream as the border for the photo blocks.

There are many different pieces to cut for the block, so I utilised the labels provided in the pattern along with many clips. As the units for the camera block grew, it was easier to find the correct pieces. Not that mistakes weren't made ...
