Week 20 of 2024 from Thread Head

Still lots of works in progress -

I have been spinning some locks from a local shepherd. They are a Wensleydale/Romney cross. I am flick carding the individual locks to open them up before spinning - something new for me.
The latest handspun socks are long enough to start the ribbing.
A few more medallions added to the piece of tatting.
A good selection of temperatures this week for the blanket.

Photos from Around -

The chicks are now 13 days old, and are really changing.
Miss Maggie still keeps an eye on them, and they love her.

There are lots of ...

My attempt at designing modern quilts … and the one above works for me.

Don’t now if the second design above fits the modern criteria or not, but I love it!

Sew & Tell ~ Scrappy Placemats ~ May 20, 2024 from Melva Loves Scraps

I finished the last of the three memory quilts for my client this week!  Woohoo!

That meant that I was able to play!  I always enjoy making the memory quilts (they are among my favorite to make because each one is unique), but all work and no play... need I say more?

I pulled out two bags of strips that were acquired from a quilter clearing out her stash several years ago.  I started sewing strips together.  I used two different sizes - 6-1/2" long and 4" long.  I pulled randomly until I had sections that were wider than 18 ...

Week 19 Nikki's Stocking for May 16th from mequilter

I am going to be on time for this week's post.

Last week's goal was to finish the outline of
the hill the church sits on, and to fill in the year completed, my initials, and the Scripture reference.

First I needed to check with Nikki about how she wanted the year written, as 2024 or just as 24. I showed her a picture of my oldest daughter's stocking, who has the same stocking, and I only used 95.
I have no idea why I used two different colors for the lettering.
I never noticed until now ...

Hanging out in Kansas from ... Cat Patches

Good afternoon, my friends. Well, it's been a harrowing overnight and part of a day since we last spoke, which explains why I'm so late posting today. We were supposed to be in Lake Scott State Park in Scott City, Kansas, this afternoon. Instead, we ended up rerouting ourselves, and we're now in Limon, Colorado. I'll explain in a bit, but let me tell you first about the lazy day we had at Wilson State Park in Kansas yesterday.

First off, Mike got out his drone and played with it some. We created this little "Hey ...

Week 18 Nikki's Stocking update for May 9th from mequilter

I missed posting for last week.
Better late than never.

My goal for the week was to finish the church
and start the hill it sits on.

Here is the church before it is backstitched. Doesn't it look nice?

Now it is really finished and looks more complete.

The next evening, on Thursday I had the hill started.
I hit my goal.

The Boston House. Meet Henry Danaher, seated at piano, and Everett Hitch, standing with shotgun. These two gentlemen were the co-proprietors of the Boston House, a hotel, bar, restaurant, and a place for gentile companionship, circa 1880s.

Danaher was an interesting character. An Irish immigrant originally to New York City where through a combination of charm, deceit, and violence he managed to put together a small nest egg. Soon he immigrated (fled) to points ...

Cubed Hexies – OBW #110 from If These Threads Could Talk

While I was teaching a OBW workshop at the Strong House Inn in April, I figured out how to put a hexie inside of a hollow cube. I couldn’t wait to get home and start playing.

I had 6 yards of this fabric from the Astral Voyage line by Josephine Wall and 3 Wishes Fabrics. It only had an 8″ repeat, but the design elements were large. I cut my strips 3 3/4″ for 6″ finished hexies. I make my hollow cubes using Deb Tucker’s Hollow Cube 60 Technique Sheet and the Star 60 Tool. I can ...

My sister started a Mariner’s Compass quilt at a class
I taught in 2005!!
Well,  almost 20 years later and she still hadn’t made
much progress on it!
My suggestion -  call it done and just let me quilt it!!
She was agreeable to that!

For her birthday I flew down to Virginia and presented her with
This finished wall hanging!
The Custom free motion quilting was so much FUN!!

Lots of handwork! from WAZOO! Newsbits

I am almost finished with a two month long repair! Yesterday, I put made and attached the new binding and today I will be sewing it down by hand as well as replacing a few more patches I missed. It's always a good feeling when I finish such a big job and get it back to the owner.

We had to turn in the quilts for the fiber arts show in Blue Ridge, and five out of six I put in needed to have sleeves applied. Ugh! My least favorite part of quilting. Thank goodness a sleeve isn't ...

Stitching News from Angie Quilts

Izzy Whizzy, I've been bizzy! (I know you don't spell Busy like that, it's for artistic purposes) I've had my brain picked almost to it's bones this week. It's amusing how people think I can help with so many things and gosh, what a lot of mathemisms I've done. I've shared a lot of 'let's fix it with a bit of fudging' top tips. Mistakes can easily become creative opportunities to be embraced.
My classroom, as usual, has lots of lovely projects taking shape, quilt shapes of course.

This belongs to ...

Saturday Sparks Link Party 618 from Pieced Pastimes

Welcome to Saturday Sparks 618!

Starting off todays party with some fair weather friends!

Like clockwork, this pair of Canadian Geese have migrated back to us.

We suspect that they are or will be nesting soon and we look forward to seeing them proudly march their goslings about as they do each year.

Oh, the miracles of Spring!

"Nature gives to every time and season some beauties of its own."

Slow Sunday Stitching from Eagle's Wings Quilts

I’m working on my cross stitch piece for the hymn All to Jesus I Surrender. I had to re-order the light blue floss because the one I had was too light and didn’t show up well. I ordered 3 different blues to try since it is hard to know exactly what they will look like when ordering online.

One of them works beautifully and I was able to get lots done. It is a gorgeous day out today and I was outside enjoying it, sitting in our screened shelter away from the horrid black fly critters.

I’ll ...
