June UFO Challenge from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

For me, 2022 is all about reducing the number of UFOs I have.  At the beginning of the year, a close friend wanted to join me so we made a little challenge.  So far I have completed every project that has been drawn.  But then came June...

June's project is to make another quilt from a box of neutral fabrics that are left over from this strata quilt.  I probably have enough fabric to make two quilts! (I didn't pull it all out of the box).

Normally this would not be counted as a UFO because no fabric ...

Sunday, Torrential Rain and Progess on a UFO from Grandma's Red Needle

It's the end of the rainy- and cyclone season, or 'summer' as the locals call it. We have had a couple of cyclones that came pretty close (the eye). Fortunate not much damage to our property, except some banana trees that went down and a huge branch off a tree in our garden. Lots of rain which is very good for the water reservoirs. At the second half of March we got some sunny days and we were able to spend four days doing some long overdue yard work, before it started raining again! Since Thursday we've had ...

Attacking Another UFO from Grandma's Red Needle

To those of you set on 'noreply commet'; thank you for your comments on my previous post!

So, I hope I'm on the right track with my UFO's. After finishing the Advent Calendar, I pulled out another UFO. This is #1 on my UFO list; Vegetables Wall Organizer

It was also on my UFO list 2021, but since I was struggling to make it my way and not what the pattern said, it was put aside.

Bright and colorful fabric I bought.... when? Can't even remember! lol

After almost breaking my brain to figure out how to ...

Another Finished Tablerunner from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Can you believe it?  This is the third month in a row I have finished an older UFO!

I have had these six appliqued blocks squirreled away for over a decade.

With the help of a friend, I finally figured out what to do with them.  It required me making one more block but I quickly finished that one evening.

I added in some negative space and I made this sweet table runner.

I knew I didn't have the time to make enough blocks for a whole quilt. And I don't know why I felt like I couldn ...

A UFO Finish from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I have said it in previous years, but truly, this year I am focused on finishing some old UFOs.

I am joining forces with a friend who has the same goal so we are supporting each other.

My project for February was to make something with these blocks.  I either needed to make more and make a quilt....

Or I initially thought about combining them with these old blocks into a wall hanging.

Once I thought about it, I decided to just turn these blocks into a large table runner.

When I started analyzing the project, there were a few ...

A Quilt Finish or three and some cross stitch finishes. from Pointless Quilter

I'm back in a sewing room.  It's not quite done yet, but it's usable to sew.  The other stuff that needs to get done takes time (my nephew is installing shelves in my closets and I still have to paint them).  I will post pictures once that all gets done and everything is put in its place.

But I have three quilt finishes to show.  The first is a baby quilt I made for a co-worker (soon to be ex-coworker as my tenure with the company is almost done.)

Memphis Jo Rose- she will be born sometime ...

February's UFO Challenge from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

It has been determined that this year is the year I am finishing some of my UFOs.  One of my friends agrees with me and has challenged me to see who can finish the most.  We are taking turns drawing numbers and each of us are working on each project.  Last month's project was finished last week.  This month is going to be a bit more challenging for me.

I have five of these Basketweave blocks that I started making in 2014.

And I also have 6 completed (and a few more started) of these applique blocks.

I was ...

An Older UFO Finish from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Back in early January, I had shared that a friend and I have challenged each other to paring down our UFO lists this year.  We picked 12 projects and then I drew a number for January.

Here is the project that came up for me.  I was gifted all these fabrics from a friend years ago - She had fallen out of love with them.  Part of the fabric was already cut into strips.  And there was already a backing piece, so I didn't want to break it up and put all the fabric in my stash.  Looks like January ...

January, 2022 Cross Stitch Report from Patchwork Times by Judy Laquidara

In January, I started six new projects and finished two! Most everything was planned and I’m loving having days to work on this and days to work on that and even though I want to keep working on whatever I pick up, I do love having designated days and times to work on each project....

The post January, 2022 Cross Stitch Report appeared first on Patchwork Times by Judy Laquidara.

Oh Scrap! : Nothing Much to Share from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Most of this week's sewing was spent on finishing the blue scrappy quilt I shared Friday.  Other than that, there really hasn't been much progress made on anything else.

I did decide what to do with the stack of older fabrics I found.

I am going to make these blocks - alternating two different fabrics.  The strips are all varying sizes to the lengths of the blocks will all be different.  We shall see how they all work together.

I have cut all the pieces for a number of blocks, and I just need to find some time to ...

This Year's Focus from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

For the past decade or so, I have taken the last few weeks of each year to ready my business for the new year, clean/organize my house and give thought to what I really want to accomplish over the next 12 months.  I also update all my work spreadsheets - including my list of all of my UFOs.

I ended up with 19 in case you were wondering!

A quilty friend and I always have a competition to see who ends the year with the least UFOs.  We tied for the second year in a row.  But what we both ...

I'm a Texan now! And a Cross Stitch WIP Parade from Pointless Quilter

Early December, three girlfriends and I and my two puppies headed East to my new home in Texas.  It was an adventure for sure considering my dogs never took more than a ride to the vets office and once we got here I had them go with us everywhere--to restaurants and walking in touristy towns.  They did considerable well I'm happy to say.

Deo, the dogs and I in one car
Rita and her friend Melissa drove the U-haul.

Hurley liked to look out the window - and fell asleep.

Once the movers got here we unloaded everything and then ...

new shirt project from Making A Lather

Part of my stress reliever project for retreat was just sewing 4 patches out of shirts. I started with 2 1/2 inch strips in dark and light and sewed  a bunch whenever I needed to destress in between sea swept.

I'd sew strips for awhile, and, then, subcut them and sew four patches. I was doing just dark and light.

I have one pattern that uses these as frames around a center block. I needed 32 for the sides and a larger set for the top and bottom.  I did get the 32 sewn. I have a few ...

Christmas Flimsy, Preparing Backing and New Projects from Grandma's Red Needle

 Hello everyone!
I hope you've had a good week. To those of you in the US and Canada; stay inside, stay cool. Can't imagine the heat some of you're dealing with.  As you know; it's 'winter' in the tropics and to keep my fingers warm, I've been busy sewing!

If you read my previous post, you know I was sorting 2.5' Christmas Fabric Squares (already cut) on colors. Rather boring, to tell the truth! Good thing there weren't that many!

After the sorting was done, I started sewing, and sewing... and sewing!!! Couldn ...

Weekend Sewing and Updated UFO / WIP Lists from Grandma's Red Needle

Happy Wednesday!
(I started writing this post Monday, some paragraphs are updated)
After working hard on WIP's and actually finish some of them  (previous post), it took me a day or so to decide what's next.

I decided to work on the tea cozies. They are quilted and ready for binding.

Update: 2 tea cozies are done, just have to fix the loop on each.

I've this one left to do. Insulated tea cozies are a bit tedious to make, especially to machine sew the binding through four layers cotton batting, 2 layers insul bright + the front ...

Migration to Africa (UFO) and Other Finishes from Grandma's Red Needle

Hello everyone! I hope you're having a good week and get lots of quilting done.
It's winter on the Southern hemisphere. We're having a cold front from Antarctica; rain, wind and 3-4 degrees (Celsius) drop in temperature. (Actually no rain the last days!). This morning we have +14C / 57.2F and 65% humidity. The cold gets into my bones! BRRR! Never in my life did I imagine I have to wear wool clothes in the tropics, but that's what I'm wearing!

To keep my fingers warm, I've been working on my list from my ...

What's on your sewing table.... from Grandma's Red Needle

...and chair, that needs to be finished?

This is my sewing table today. It doesn't look that bad, eh? A couple of projects, right?

The chair; overflowing! Some WIP's hiding there!

I'm determined to work on UFO's, but in between I need a break to work on smaller projects. After doing a little counting today, I've decided to finish (most of) the projects laying on the table and chair, before I touch anything else! (Easier said than done!) I've not set a timeframe, because that won't work for me! I didn't take ...

This, That, a Finish and Christmas in May from Grandma's Red Needle

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a good week and got some quilting done. Since my previous post, I've been busy with several projects. I usually work on one project at a time, although not always get them finished. That's quite normal, isn't it?! :)

First of all, I have a finished UFO!

Yep! Another Postage Stamp Quilt! This is #9 (my UFO list). It's the same size as the other PSQ I finished recently; 72 x 95 inches / 183 x 241 cm.

This is the one I struggled to get the 108" backing straight. We ...

A FINISH! ...and that's a UFO! from Grandma's Red Needle

Good Friday morning from a rainy and windy Mauritius!

It's the beginning of 'winter', or 'cold season', as the locals refer it to. It's past middle May and the last days the weather is typical for July/August; rain, wind and drop in temperature. Meteo predicts the temperature drops to +11C  / 51.8F on the plateau this 'winter'. BRRR! Some of you may be laughing, but with high humidity and wind, this sort of weather IS cold! Time to wear warm sweaters and socks!

We took advantage of the sunny weather and did some long overdue yard work ...

works in progress from Making A Lather

What I am working on this week. I am trying to make 2 easy breezy blocks every day. I still have 70 + to go.

And if I have enough extra 1 1/2 inch squares to make a waffle stamps block, I make it in any color. Otherwise, I use the color of the month from rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. This month is red and I finished the red here.

I made a batch of  quilted twins free pattern called swingin checkerboard. I have another 30 - 40 to go.

I worked on rsc blocks in red for ...
