WIP Wednesday #53: Sewing No-Show Socks with Crafty Gemini from Crafty Gemini

In this video I show you how to make my No-Show Slip Socks.

This is a one size fits most pattern. We like to use a cotton/spandex blend of fabric that has at least 100% stretch in both directions. These socks fit a child size 2 to a women’s size 11. The size will mostly depend on the fabric used and the amount of stretch the fabric has.

Overall it’s a very versatile pattern and with the amount of fun prints you can get in cotton spandex this is sure to be a go-to on your gift ...

Current WIP’s

My works in progress are the current projects that are front and center in my sewing room. I’m teaching a skill building class via Zoom using my Possibilities Quilt Pattern. It’s been four weeks with a lovely group of ladies. The four blocks that I’m making for the class are traditional favorites. I’m using a fat quarter bundle of Notting Hill ...

WIP Wednesday #46: Sew a tiny faux leather zip pouch! from Crafty Gemini

In this week’s Work-In-Progress Wednesday, I’m showing you how to make my “easiest tiny zipper pouch” out of faux leather. Like, fit in the palm of your hand tiny! I love making these to store all my knitting and crochet stitch markers, tapestry needles and other small notions. They work great for sewing notions, too! Store your thimble, a few needles, a small spool of thread and you’re good to go!

All you need is some faux leather and a craft zipper. That’s it! It’s a super quick and easy make you’ll want to ...

Mondays and WIP’s from The Crafty Quilter

Now that we’re empty nesters (again) I kind of like Mondays. It’s the start of a new week and I get myself organized for the next five days. For me, organized is a very loose term. It means I make a meal plan, a grocery list and a “to do” list for the next five days. It doesn’t matter which fancy planner I use, it always falls to the wayside after the third or fourth month. I like a piece of paper that I can write my list on and my menu for the week, and then ...

Finish a UFO before starting something new from The Crafty Quilter

Happy Wednesday! I’m in that place where I would love to start a new project, but I’m forcing myself to finish a UFO (or two) before I do. That sounds reasonable, right? If I did that all the time, I wouldn’t have such a long list of UFO’s (unfinished quilt projects). I think this could be another one of those perfect mottos, Finish a UFO before starting something new. It’s right up there with Finished is better than perfect.

Last week I finished my Possibilities Quilt with a flanged binding (my second this month) and ...

WIP Wednesday: Broken Engagement from Live a Colorful Life

Most of the time spent in my sewing room recently has been working on my double wedding ring quilt, aka "Broken Engagement."

I sewed and sewed arcs--a total of 72, each with eight pieces. My color palette is inspired by an old quilt top that I've cut apart, and then decided those pieces would go on the back as they were way too busy for the front.

For no apparent reason that I can identify, this is my most favorite arc--the one my eye keeps going back to.
Placing the arcs in some kind of random order.
Cutting out ...

WIP’s and more from The Crafty Quilter

I feel like I should call this blog post “WIP’s and more WIP’s” or “The Battle of the WIP’s”. I have a growing number of works in process, but I’m enjoying myself immensely. So it’s not really a battle of WIP’s but a battle of time. I know we can all relate!

I’m co-teaching a block of the month class (via Zoom) and it’s getting towards the end of the year. This means I need to get all of my blocks sewn together, finish up the applique borders and… you know the ...

Pillows and WIP’s and summer! from The Crafty Quilter

Hey everyone! I’ve been away from the computer for a while, but busy in the sewing room and the kitchen. We’re almost at the halfway point on the calendar year. The first day of summer is in a few days! How did that happen? I feel like I should have a lot to show for my time spent at home these past few months. But no. I think I’m creating more UFO’s than finishing the ones I already have.

I did just finish two 16″ pillows for my granddaughters. These were quick to make, and they ...

Projects and UFO’s and cooking from The Crafty Quilter

We are still sheltering in place here in Northern California. All this time at home finds me knee deep in sewing projects, UFO’s and cooking in the kitchen – all the things!

I wanted something easy and fun to do in my sewing room, so I decided to catch up with the Silver Linings Free Sew Along with Jacquelynne Steves. You can still sign up for this one and it’s perfect for beginners. This will be a small project that includes twelve 6″ blocks with optional embroidery squares to add in. The first three blocks have been released and ...

Wednesday Work in Progress: Mystery Quilt from Patchwork Sampler Blog

The brick and mortar Patchwork Sampler shop offered dozens of mystery quilts over the years. So many, in fact, that I still have many mysteries in the UFO bins. In April I finished piecing a Debbie Caffrey mystery called Seams Like Yesterday. It was the perfect project for these times. I don’t know about you, but I am having a hard time concentrating on a project. My mind wanders and I jump from one thing to another. I think about my kids and how the pandemic is affecting them and even the impact it will have on my grandkids ...
