Week 8 of 2025 from Thread Head

This week I finished a woven table runner -

Last year I wove some Heavy Meta towels. I loved the pattern, but because I substituted yarn that was readily available to me the horizontal and vertical stripes didn't weave to the same width. I knew I would revisit the pattern to see what I could do to change that.
Using Fiberworks (a computer software program) I modified the pattern so the vertical stripes would be wider (also changed the pattern in a few other ways to make it work as a table runner).
The difference in the mock up is ...

Week 7 of 2025 from Thread Head

This week I finished a set of tea towels -

The pattern is Cinnamon Toast Towels from the Yarn Barn of Kansas, some with a border designed by someone on Ravelry, and one with a border I designed.
They are woven with 2/16 cotton and 2/8 cotton from Maurice Brassard in Quebec. The warp is white, but the weft is various colours. The weave structure is crackle - something new to me (it is supposed to look like crackle glaze on pottery). They were really nice to weave, and it was fun to play with different colours. More information can ...

Week 5 of 2025 from Thread Head

This week I finished another woven table runner -

This one is an overshot weaving. It is about 22" x 42" (not including fringe).
Woven in Burgundy 2/8 tencel for the warp and tabby weft, and medium brown mercerized 2/3 cotton (leftover from another project) for the pattern weft. The weaving draft is Wandering Vine from the green book by Marguerite P. Davison (downloaded from Anna's Archive).
The back is the reverse (more details on my Raverlry page).
Hard colour to photograph, but it is more like this.

Week 4 of 2025 from Thread Head

I finished a set of towels this week -

The pattern is from the Jane Stafford School of Weaving - season 6, episode 2.
There are a few different weave structures, and it was a good learning experience. Link to my Ravelry page with more photos and details.
I also wove a table runner (link to my Ravelry page). It is 23" x 55" (not including fringe).
Since my weaving goal for this year is to try new things, for this one I wanted to try weaving with the same colour yarn, but in two different fibres. One is a matt ...

Week 2 of 2025 from Thread Head

This week I started a new weaving project-

Another set of tea towels using a pattern from the JST School of Weaving (Season 6, Episode 2). The warp is 2/8 cotton in three shades of green, and white. My goal is to be a bit more experimental with weft colours for these towels.

When I was getting the loom all ready to start weaving (dressing the loom), I realized that I use various height chairs to make the work more comfortable, and that they all involve weaving in some way.
When I thread the heddles (the "wires" that create ...

Week 1 of 2025 from Thread Head

I had a few finishes this week -

The 2024 temperature blanket was finished on the last day of the year!
It was a fun knit, and made me pay attention to everyday of the year in a different way.
A set of tea towels is off the loom.
These are at the same pattern as the last set I wove in December, but using different colours for the warp.
It is an 8 shaft twill pattern. The towel in the above photo is just woven with red - stripes appear in certain sections, and the diagonal line in the twill changes ...

Week 49 of 2024 from Thread Head

This week I wove a set of tea towels -

The pattern is from Jane Stafford's School of Weaving, Season 5, episode 1 - Turned Twill Towels on 8 Shaft. Woven in 8/2 cotton.
The warp was fairly neutral, so it played well with various weft colours, and they all look so different.
I wove these on a time crunch (4 days from start to finish, they are sold), so I now have another set on the go because they were so nice to weave.

Works in Progress -

Second Story Tee - the back is almost finished.
Cross Stitch - another row ...

Week 46 of 2024 from Thread Head

I finished weaving the "woven" towels this week-

This one woven with natural 16/2 cotton for the tabby, and navy 8/2 cotton for the pattern weft. I hemmed this one on the reverse, compared to the other towels on this warp.
After cutting the towel off the loom, I spread out the warp in a different reed (original sett at 30 ends per inch, new sett at 24 ends per inch) to weave a sample with the rest of the warp. I wanted to see if the pattern would weave up with squares as opposed to diamonds, and ...

Let's Catch Up Some from Rose Prairie Quilts and Farm

I'm back.

I thought I would share some more.

Like I said last time, seeing how it's been so long I have a lot to share..... Past and Present

I should start with the finishes, and the quilt shown last week that was getting the binding sewn on, is now done and ready to display next month.

The pattern is Hocus Pocus and I used a jelly roll and layer cake for the pumpkins. Did add some scrap green I had and for the background I used my favorite Kona Snow. I like it because it reads white ...

Week 33 of 2024 from Thread Head

Lots of works in progress this week -

I finally started weaving on this new batch of tea towels. It is a pattern from Etsy I have been wanting to try, but it took me three attempts to get the warp on the loom (I kept making threading repeat errors! Over 600 threads!!). It is my first time weaving towels with 16/2 cotton. The weaving is going well, and much more fun now that I have it figured out.
I started a new pair of socks with some handspun from TdF last month. They are my regular toe-up socks, but ...

Week 19 of 2024 from Thread Head

A few projects on the go-

Started a new weaving project - a simple, plain weave, project to stay on the loom for the summer time (more tea towels).
I picked this tatting project up again (started in 2021), another simple project for the summer.
There was a hot 27ºC day yesterday for the temperature blanket.

Photos from Around-
Very exciting week for us - the chicks arrived!!
Cute little balls at the beginning of the week - 1 day old, 9 of them.
It's amazing how fast they are growing - 5 days old.

Finished a few things this week -

A skein of Merino/Nylon for sock, from fibre that I dyed last week.
And a set of six tea towels. The pattern is Four Blocks on Four Shafts: Summer & Winter Towels from Handwoven magazine, issue May/June 2013, woven in 2/8 cotton, cotton chenille and cotton bouclé.

Still working on some other projects too, including -

Socks with some more handspun Merino/Nylon.
And the temperature blanket - temperatures all over the place and a birthday this week.

Weaving Detour from Gene Black an Alabama Artist

It seems that I haven't posted any creative hand work in a while.  But on March 3rd, I ordered a frame loom with a heddle bar to try a different type of weaving. This was shipped from Belgium and arrived on March 12th. (pretty fast I think.)

(picture borrowed from Funem Studio)

Honestly it just sat in the box for a day.  Then I assembled the loom (fairly easy assembly) and added a warp to it.  For those of you who weave on various looms, this is probably the easiest warping I have ever done.

Next I took the ...

A New Adventure from Quilts and More - Home Made Creations

I'm a quilter at heart, and I expect I always will be. But OMG, I've found a new hobby!

Over the summer, I visited my sister and we went to a small fair in her neighborhood.  I saw a weaving demonstration there, and I was entralled. How did she do that?  The weaver had created a sampler that was 2" squares, and every square was a different pattern. I could understand every row (or set of rows) being different, but how did she get the pattern to change ACROSS the row?  My engineering brain latched onto it immediately ...

Placemats from Quilts and More - Home Made Creations

Just in time for Christmas, I finished 5 (of my 6) placemats.   Just enough for my small Christmas gathering.  These were so much fun!  I used 3 different weaving patterns, just for some variety, but kept the stripes the same for continuity.

This the first one, just off the loom. I gave it a wash and it tightened up some.  It is far from perfect, but I'm pretty happy with my first attempt.

This was the pattern I chose for my second pair of placemats.  I think I saw it called "Cat's Cradle", but I'm probably remembering ...

December 26th from Thread Head

The tea towels are all washed and hemmed.
The warp is 2/8 cotton (natural and black). Four of the towels are woven with 2/8 cotton, two woven with cotton chenille, and  the leftover warp was woven with cotton bouclé. The pattern for the draft is from 'A Weaver's Book of 8-Shaft Patterns' (the Strickler book), #246.

August Finishes from Rose Prairie Quilts and Farm

Here we are again, another month that seem to just fly by. Its amazing considering we all seem to suffer one way or another from the weather.

Here in NE Oklahoma it was extreme heat and humidity.

A good thing because of it I was inside a lot, which meant I was keeping myself busy with projects.

Was pretty successful too.

This is going to be a picture heavy post.

I'll start with the one that I had been working on the past few months

the Spring Fling Shop Hop from 2015.

It turned out so pretty, and next ...
