inkle weaving from Ellyn's Place

Because a girl can never have too many hobbies, I've added inkle weaving to my list. Several months ago, my friend Chris introduced me to these little band looms. Off we went to the weaving store where I acquired one of my own (for the record, I also talked Chris into buying another for herself.)

Here's my inkle loom loaded into the car. We went straight back to my house where Chris helped me warp it up....
This is the first band I wove, about 1 inch wide. The selvages are a bit wonky but I am otherwise ...

Some New Knitting from Thread Head

I started a couple of new knitting projects last week.

The first one is another mystery gnome - Gnome is Where You Hang Your Hat by Sarah Schira. We have had 3 clues so far. I am using handspun from a local raw fleece.

This one is Twice as Nice by JumperCables.

I am using some handspun linen and silk along with some silk gima (ribbon) that I dyed with the fibre.

The fabric weaving is coming along nicely.

I think I am about half way done.

All the best!♥︎

Weaving for Fabric from Thread Head

I starting weaving a new project today.

My Mom thought it would be nice to have handwoven fabric to make new cushions for her dining room chairs. I put 8 yards of warp on the loom.

I am using some Harrisville Designs Shetland wool to weave. In the colours Cornflower (warp) and Suede (weft).

This is the underside. The pattern is "Derivation of the Twill - Warp Chevron" by Oscar Bériau, published in 1939. I found it in the Jan/Feb 2015 issue of Hand Woven magazine (the Oscar Tote by Beth Mullins). It is a really nice pattern to weave ...

Finished Table Runner from Thread Head

I finished weaving the table runner.

Here it is fresh off the loom (it did take longer to weave than to put the warp on the loom, but still very quick). It was lots of fun to weave - I really enjoy weaving and should try to do it more often. The treadling sequence for this pattern was easy to follow, and it was easy to figure out where I was in the pattern - always a bonus.

I twisted the fringe to finished the runner off. It was made with commercial yarn for the warp and the tabby weft (the dark ...

You are right Raewyn, I am weaving with the yarn I spun on New Year's Eve.

Dressing the Loom from Thread Head

I have been getting the loom ready for my next weaving project - putting the warp on or dressing the loom.

It will probably take longer to get the warp ready than it will to weave the project.

We have upgraded the cat's cardboard box to a wooden crate my Dad made.

All the best!♥︎

Countdown to Christmas from Rose Prairie Quilts and Farm

My goodness it's only 13 days until Christmas.
Have to say this year is a little different, we have had family coming all month.

My middle daughter and her family have been here already and  my oldest brother and wife will be here this weekend. Then next weekend my other daughters will be here.

Everyone is here to share Christmas with Mom. She now has hospice and we all want to make the most of what time she has left here on earth.

Needless to say my time for a while now has been away from home and such ...

Aged Before Beautiful from CollectInTexas Gal

Sparrow is 50 years old.  My collection of Yarns and Fabrics are from yesterday to 5 years old.  Other tools used in the creations above are somewhere in between.  For example my 'J' crochet hook has been around since the 1970's when crocheting with yarn came on the scene with 'Fringed Ponchos' and 'Granny Squares'.

Also, somewhere in between those 50 years I collected glassware....lots of glassware.  As a matter of fact...a glassware post 'EAPC Oil Lamp Reaches the Age of Antiquity' has as many pageviews (1461) as I have glassware pieces...close anyway.
How does that ...

Ta-dah! from a daily dose of fiber

Handwoven Hand Painted Silk Shawl

Here is the completed shawl!

In case you didn’t read the post before this one, here is one of the painted warps that I made with Neal Howard at the Southeast Fiber Forum.

After consulting my notes and emailing Neal a few times for added support, I got the warp on the loom. It was pretty exciting to see it all spread out and admire the colors!

I wove several tests to check the sett (how close the warp threads are) and then unwoven them. The warp was not long enough to weave a ...
