I wanted to play with the Gnome die on my Accuquilt GO! machine, but I wasn’t ready to start on Christmas quilts yet. So, I thought I’d try stitching up a gnome using Halloween fabric. I made one, and immediately fell in love with how it looked! I knew I wanted to make more, but […]

Homegrown, Home-dyed Indigo from The Ardent Thread

The grandkids are visiting for the summer, which means I’ve been busy juggling a toddler and a bigger kid, both of whom need things to do outside.

Taking this video as inspiration, I decided to go for something we could do TODAY from start to finish and see results. [YouTube video: “Indigo Dyeing with fresh indigo leaves // 生葉で藍染”]

Our local soil is kind of garbage. It’s sandy, silty, and blows away in the wind, but we find ways to work with it.

I ordered indigo seeds from The Dogwood Dyer several months ago and lo and behold, they ...

Scrappy Quilts, Scrappy Life from Humble Quilts

I mentioned to Lizzy that I should do an outdoor post about what is growing in my garden. Late spring is peak because the long hot days haven't arrived yet and plants are enjoying lovely days sprinkled with bouts of rain.
I realized my garden style mimics my quilts! Free flowing, humble and scrappy!
Feel free to scroll past all the flowers to the video at the end of this post.

Instead of dirt or weeds we planted wildflowers. Flax is always dependable.

And yarrow, which is natural to this area.

These lupine are natural to the area as ...

Machine Quilting Pillow TalkBoy of boy, there are so many... from Living Water Quilter

Machine Quilting Pillow Talk

Boy of boy, there are so many decisions to make to machine quilt our projects. It can be daunting.

  • What machine quilting design do I use?
  • How do I stitch the design in a pleasing way?
  • What  thread color and a thread weight will I use?
  • Should the quilting be dense or light?

Let’s Make Some Decisions

We can take machine quilting and break it into manageable steps. When we concentrate on different parts of the machine quilting process it gives of freedom. With freedom comes courage. Courage to experiment and learn.

In Quilt Conversations ...

Planering from Veriquilt
