Fathers Day from Sew Preeti Quilts

This is my dad.
My dad

Yes, I take after him :-)

Daddy's Girl

He passed away in 1998 and I miss him everyday. The grief never really goes away. You try not to dwell upon it constantly. You eventually learn to think of happy memories when you think of them.

One of my happy memories of my dad is when he would return from an out-of-town work trip.  In his shirt pocket, there would be a 5 Star candy bar .  As soon as we heard him or saw him at the door, we girls would run up to him ...

Dressing Up - a modern tile qal from Sew Sunshine

"Dressing Up"

Modern Tile Pattern by Mell Meyer

27"x 27"

made from upcycled textiles

hand appliqued shapes on all the blocks

hand quilted with big stitch in med gray

I used all black or black gray textiles. I have always wanted to do dark on dark and thought by making this pattern smaller I could accomplish it and keep my sanity. Sewing with dark thread on blacks requires lots of natural light for me.

Making Waves from Celtic Thistle Stitches

It is reveal day for this quarter's Endeavourers Challenge, this time the theme for the Challenge was "The Sea".

Flock of seagulls rising from the shoreline

This is the view from my sewing room ...

Small changes from Celtic Thistle Stitches

Living by the sea it is hard to ignore the obvious signs of plastic pollution that washes up on the shore here.

We hear about the longevity of plastic straws

and plastic bottles and it is not difficult to find examples of them nestling amongst the rocks and seaweed of our shoreline.

Just before Christmas our youngest son's partner spent a happy couple of hours rifling through my stash cutting up fabrics that she plans to turn into beeswax food wraps. So, inspired by her I thought that I too could use some of that stash to make a ...

A bit of housekeeping from Celtic Thistle Stitches

One of the joys of my sewing room (yes it is almost finished!!!) is the pull-out ironing board set in to a cupboard. I know I am easy to please :)

Given the punishment ironing boards take around here I wanted to make a cover for it to make sure that the nice, fawn surface wouldn't get ruined when I inadvertently iron fusible wadding the wrong way round!

So, I grabbed an old shirt of my DH's cut one side out of it and added a part of a sleeve to give me the length that I needed. A ...
