Cross Stitch Finish: Be Mine Freebie from Jo's Country Junction

I’ve had this little cross-stitch piece in my to-be-finished pile for a week or so and being I’m getting the Valentine decor out, I thought I better finish it up. I had originally thought I would put it in this little frame…It was a little stark. I ended up going down to the basement to …

It has been 6 months since I started my Artist in Residence with the Durham Art Guild. With it coming to an end, I have a solo show with all new work March 15th – April 11th. My work for this residence explored more of my process but also looking at making pieces that may be more than just 2 dimensions.

For those that are local, I hope you can come to the Opening Reception March 15th and celebrate this journey with me. In the meantime, I’m sharing with you all the details around my show.

What I’m Working On… from Jo's Country Junction

I didn’t get much sewing time at all. I tried to get to the sewing room all week long with no luck until noon on Sunday… Then the first thing I did was drop the box that had my little pieces in for my Tiny Nine Patch blocks. I dropped these and the container also …

Baby Quilt For Donation from Wedding Dress Blue

I cut a lot of simple kits for baby quilts several years ago.

It is time to get more of them sewn up and ready for donation. .

This one used 121 4-inch squares. The car print suggested the colors of the rest of the squares.

It finishes at 38″. Not fancy, but it gets the job done: happy quilt = happy baby.

Project Quilting 15.2 from Words & Stitches

This week’s challenge was to sky colors but not less than 10% sky blue. I had a million ideas but was very short on time. (I’ve got a t-shirt quilt that’s way overdue.) I had an idea I would have loved to do based on the title “Purp”le Rain” but it would have required a ton of time.

Instead, I used inspireation from our recent ice storm. While we were frozen in place, we were treated to some lovely sunsets over the ice so I tried to capture that in raw edge applique.

You can’t ...

What I’m Making: Brownie Delight from Jo's Country Junction

Last Fall I showed pictures of desserts I made and donated to the local Historical Society dinner/fundraiser. A reader asked what the Brownie Delight was. That’s the white dessert in the pan. This has long been a family favorite. In fact, it was one of my husband’s favorite desserts. It looks like this… Taste of …

Cross Stitch Update from Jo's Country Junction

It’s always a little awkward for me after I finish a big cross stitch project. I kind of flounder and don’t make much progress on anything until I get settled into a plan or project for my focus piece…and that’s what this week was. Last week I finished Christmas Garden…I told you about that in …

Tuesday Tales... from Patchwork Stories

Picture

For a recent project I needed 3 vintage buttons.  I gathered my button collection, 3 glass jars full.  Some buttons were from the early 1900s belonging to my grandmother, some from my mother, and others I have purchased through the years.  There are some unusual ones, like these made from coconut shells.

Picture
Other buttons have odd shapes and designs.  I can almost recall some of these old buttons on the front of my grandmother's Sunday best dresses, popular in the 40s and 50s.  She was always dressed to the nines for church and outings with coordinated gloves, purse, hat ...

White Rabbits from Words & Stitches

My daughter’s great grandmother was the one who brought the tradition of saying “Rabbit, rabbit” first thing on the first day of a new month. This was supposed to bring luck for the month ahead. I’d never heard of it before and thought it was just a game she played with her grandchildren. Then I ran accross it in a Miss Read novel (which I highly recommend, by the way – quite a charming series about a school teacher in a small English village.) Somehow the tradition got translated from “White Rabbit” to “Rabbit Rabbit” along the way and ...

Sunday Stash January 21, 2024 from Quilt Paint Create

No change in the numbers.

The nameless tree quilt has a name now. I decided to name it Trinidad for the place where Laura took the picture. Every time I look at it I hear the old Eddy Money song play in my head, but I can live with that.

I finished adding motifs to the top and started sewing down the bits.

I hope to start quilting it in the next few weeks.
