Some of This; Some of That from The Quilting Reader's Garden

I've been making string blocks, starting a new EPP, finished up an applique block, made a charity block for Covered in Love, and began quilting my UFO and a charity quilt - phew. So only have .53 yds to add to the stash report.  But I bagged yardage and scraps from my Sweet Land of Liberty that I no longer want. Found homespuns are so loosely woven, I don't care to work with them again.  I

Drunkard's Path (or, I Am Not To Be Trusted!) from caledonia quilter

Part I
I used to teach an 8-week quilting class twice a year, and I always wrote my own patterns.  I have an Accuquilt die cutter (see JAWS tab above), so I designed a Drunkard's Path quilt.  I asked a friend to test my pattern instructions, and she made this quilt  That was, I think, in 2009.  When I was visiting her last fall the quilt was STILL flopped over her design wall.  Every time she's mentioned this quilt she would get an unhappy tone in her voice, which always made me think she was having a hate ...

Working on my first UFO of 2019 from My Sewing Room

The APQ 2019 UFO Challenge has begun and I have a couple of items identified for January that I plan to work on.  Squared Away was the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2018 project and I kept up all year so I have 30 blocks all ready to set into a flimsy.

My plan for Squared Away is a simple layout with sashing and cornerstones.  I had bought a white jelly roll this summer to cut into sashing for this project; what a time saver!!  And I dug through the box of 2.5" squares already cut from scraps to find enough ...

Under a foot of snow from My Sewing Room

What should I do when we are buried under a foot of fresh snow and it's COLD outside?  The first thing that comes to mind is to sew for awhile, and then I have to work a couple of hours with some invoices.

Actually I was sewing at 2:00 am because I couldn't sleep last night.  I read for awhile, but just kept listening to the wind howl, so I got up and went down to the basement to work on Crackerjack.  The inner borders are now pieced and the 2 side ones are sewn on. This ...

November 2018 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

Another month gone. I finished one project in October, the shirt. I think I’ll do better this month with the long Thanksgiving weekend.
It’s about time for some new projects on the list.
The Short List includes something old (UFO), something new, a handwork project, a scrap project and a project in the design phase. I started using this system in November 2014 to keep myself focused. I add and delete categories over time as my interests change.
Something Old – I didn’t work on the bears at all in the past two months. That probably means I ...

6 and 6 in 2018 - October from The Quilting Reader's Garden

I finished two this past month, and one was actually a quilt I had listed as getting done. I'm amazed. My new project done was Sweet Land of Liberty (Lori's QAL that started in January): All it needs now is a bit of embellishment on two blocks and then it can be sandwiched.  With such a busy quilt top, how would you quilt it?  I'm at a loss and welcome all suggestions. The second finish is

Motivation and goals from My Sewing Room

I haven't been setting goals lately. I haven't had much motivation lately - to do anything. That needs to change!!

The November number for the APQ UFO Challenge is 4, and this is what is on my list.  I was looking at these 3 projects and trying to decide if one of these was achievable this month.  So I headed downstairs and looked in the drawer marked "Thimbleberries stuff".  Yikes!! A whole drawer full - why was I avoiding it?

I was thinking the Thimbleberries Hourglass quilt project must be close to 20 years old.  But I found the pattern ...

Design Wall Monday - back to a UFO from My Sewing Room

With a morning off work, I pulled this UFO back out.  It's one of the August options on my APQ UFO Challenge list.  The only thing on the center section that still needed done was to applique the 5 red birds.  I've been using a simple blanket stitch on these applique pieces.

Then I rethreaded my machine and stitched up the top section and the bottom section.  Those side sections will be next. Several sashing pieces need to be added as well, but I'm starting to get excited about having this one getting closer to being a ...

UFO Challenge #8 from My Sewing Room

On my UFO list I've called this Red Bird Christmas, but now that I've pulled this project out again I'm reminded that it's really called House Warming Party.  The APQ UFO Challenge number for August is 8, and this is on my list in that spot so I hope to work on something to bring this project forward.  And luckily I had all of the patterns and fabric, and the finished sections, all kept together so I didn't have to search for anything.

I have all of the blocks done- except for the large center ...

WIP Wednesday - Still here and moving along from Ramblings of a Fabric Obsessor

I bet you thought that since I haven't posted in a week that I was dropping out of blog world again, didn't you? Well, I am not! The first of the month was last Thursday and the first 3 business days of each month are very busy at the office for me and it doesn't leave me time for much else. I did find time to get a couple of backings during a sale on Saturday at my local quilt shop. I also got

A finished top! from Ramblings of a Fabric Obsessor

I meant to post this yesterday, but I ended up working from home and tried to get so much done in the time that I was online and then I went to a new local meeting of long armers and by the time I got home, I was too pooped to even sew! So I am posting my January OMG update, my WIP Wednesday, my January UFO finish... So many blogs to link to! Let's start with the January One Month Goals. Here

BOMs Away - So much done! from Ramblings of a Fabric Obsessor

This week, it's like I couldn't stop sewing! Every free minute that I had, it seemed that I was stitching or pressing or cutting. It is amazing how much can be accomplished in just a few minutes stolen here and there. For the Road to Llano quilt, I was able to finish steps 5 and 6. These are the setting triangles and corners. And since I was on a roll, I went ahead and worked on the next

BOMs Away - Llano progress from Ramblings of a Fabric Obsessor

I am still dealing with plumbing issues at the condo and it is very loud with the blowers and dehumidifiers in the basement and on the first floor so I am spending a lot of time in my quilting studio away from the noise. The good news is that I am making progress on some projects! I have finished steps 3 AND 4 on the Road to Llano quilt! The first set of blocks are finished! I also got

WIP Wednesday - minimal progress from Ramblings of a Fabric Obsessor

Well, this week has so far been a bust for me. I will share some pics in my next post when I hopefully will have a bit more info, but I will just say that I am dealing with some plumbing issues at my house. I was able to get the squares cut for my Road to Llano quilt and these will be used in steps 3 and 4, just as a start. I'm hoping to get step 3 done sometimes this weekend. And I am

BOMs Away - Road to Llano from Ramblings of a Fabric Obsessor

This week, I got step 2 finished on the Road to Llano quilt. I made 36 nine patches and 45 of these connecting units. This is with the flash on, but the colors are truer in the second picture. I'm off work today and will be heading to the basement to get some quilting done. I'm hoping that I can work on more of my own projects later on. I'm getting eager and excited to be working on

WIP Wednesday and OMG from Ramblings of a Fabric Obsessor

It seems that there are so many challenges going on with the start of the new year. I would like to continue feeling like I am progressing on my projects and making some sort of headway and I want to join all of these challenges, but I am trying to be realistic and trying to not overwhelm myself because that could result in my giving up. If the last couple of days are any indication of my UFOs
