Bits and Pieces of Progress from Life In Pieces

It was a sunny, but cold weekend.  The Scientist in Training was home for a couple of days as she had appointments in town and she's out of school today.  We hung out and chilled most of the weekend. This is probably the last time she'll be home till spring break, so we opted to do a lot of family stuff this weekend.  I did get in a bit of stitching, but not as much as I normally do on the weekends.

The first priority was to get Twinkle Stars sent out for quilting. I did get the ...

Mid - January 2020 PHD Report from Life In Pieces

It's been a quick moving month. It's already mid-month and time to check in over at Quilting Gail's with progress on earning my PHD (projects half done) in quilt finishes for 2020.

Amazingly, there's been some good progress on a few projects.

1.  Twinkle Stars - The narrow color border was finished by the end of 2019.  The final border is on now, so it's a finished flimsy.

The back is pieced too.

So good progress on this project, though it likely won't come of the the UFO list till February.

2.  Winter Quilt Along ...

To Do Tuesday: #2 for 2020 from Life In Pieces

Usually the first month of the year seems to pass by slowly. That's not been the case this year, the month is speeding by, tomorrow is mid month already.  But even with the quickly passing days, the to do list fared pretty well.

Weekly To Do List (01/07/2020)
1.  Twinkly Stars - Find and piece backing
2. Frolic - Finish Clue 3, progress on Clue 4,5, 6 and 7, Start Clue 8  - progress
3. Mosaic Mystery - Start assembling rows as leaders and enders

Last week ended with check marks on two of the three items, and good progress ...

Making Progress on the Stitching Stuff from Life In Pieces

The weekend started off with the potential for severe weather. We did get a lot of rain, then we got snow, which was mostly melted by Sunday afternoon.  Still it was a great weekend to stay home.  Which we mostly did, till the Scientist in Training had to head back to college Sunday afternoon.  But she'll be back on Friday since they don't have school next Monday.

I did find my way into the sewing room for some extended stitching time over the weekend.  The backing for Twinkle Stars is now all stitched together.

It needs the stray ...

To Do Tuesday: The First 2020 To Do List from Life In Pieces

The first Monday in 2020 has come and gone. It wasn't so bad. There will be a lot to get done at work this month, hopefully it can all get done with no overtime.  The first few days of 2020 have been good ones on the stitching front.  Two check marks on the list for last week, with a bit of progress on the third item.  Definitely not a bad week.

Weekly To Do List (12/31/2019)
1. Twinkle Stars - Add final border
2. Winter Quilt Along - Finish Hour 5 and assemble sections
3.  Frolic - Finish Clue 3 ...

The Week in Stitches from Life In Pieces

I'm grateful that we went back to work last Thursday. We had a short work week, then a weekend to gear up for the first Monday after the New Year.  So I'm not dreading today too much as I got a bit dug out last week at work plus got in some good relaxing and productive stitching time over the weekend.

My word for 2020 is "Finish", as in clear off the UFO/WIP list a bit.  My strategy is to focus on mostly those projects that are almost to the end point.  That certainly paid off this ...

2020 Stitching Plans and Strategies from Life In Pieces

Happy New Year!  After a slow start to my new year's day, I'm getting ready to head to the sewing room for an afternoon of nothing but stitching. My word for 2020 is "Finish".  As of today, there are 26 in progress projects on my list, a record.  The goal is to whittle that down to less than ten. That probably won't happen in one year, but I'd like to get that number back into the teens this year.  I do better with a plan of attack and better yet if I've posted about my ...

To Do Tuesday: New Year's Eve Edition from Life In Pieces

Happy New Year's Eve!  My plan is to hang out with My Guy and do a bit of stitching while we wait for the new year. The Scientist in Training will be having a few friends over for the evening.  Should be pretty low key, but fun.

Christmas week was a bit weird. My To Do list didn't get put together till Thursday, but I did put together a list.

Weekly To Do List 12/24/2019
1. Twinkle Stars - Add borders   progress
2. Frolic - Finish clue 1, continue clues 3 and 4, start clue 5
3.  Mosaic ...

Holiday Stitching Stuff from Life In Pieces

It's been a busy couple of weeks on a number of fronts.  We finally celebrated Christmas with my part of the family yesterday.  It was a lot of fun, but a bit tiring.  We've got three days to rest up and recover before we have to be back at work.  I've managed at least an hour of stitching most days the last couple of weeks, but I haven't managed a nothing but stitching day yet. Hopefully I can work one in before vacation ends.

I didn't post last week, so this week's post reflects ...

The Best of 2019 at Life In Pieces from Life In Pieces

As 2019 winds down, I start to look back at the year.  Cheryl over at Meadow Mist Designs encourages a review of the year's blog posts in her 5th "Best of" linky party.

So here is my Best of 2019 Life in Pieces posts.

1.  Most Views (615):  November One Monthly Goal - Bordering Twinkle Stars.

Twinkle Stars
Tutorial by Andrea Feldbush of Soscrappy

I'm still working to get the borders on this quilt, but I keep getting side tracked with new projects. Twinkle Stars started as a Rainbow Scrap challenge project. Hopefully it will make it all the ...

Bordering Again from Life In Pieces

We are slated to get ice this morning, changing to snow this afternoon.  It's nice to be off work when we have that kind of weather. Too much to do to have a nothing but sewing day, but I hope to get in some good stitching time this afternoon.  I spent the weekend at my Mom's, hanging out with the women in the family, including the Scientist In Training.  Finals are over, so she's home for the next four weeks. There's been discussion about some Christmas shopping here in town, we'll have to see just ...

To Do Tuesday: Start of the Holiday Vacation from Life In Pieces

Just three more days that I have to get up, get dressed and drive to work for 2020.  I was going to say just three more days of work for the year, but that's not quite true. I'm going to have to work a bit while I'm off. But if I spend an hour a day on the work computer most days of vacation, the reward is I should be able to check off a few big things on my work "to do" list and I'll start the new work year on better footing.  That's ...

December One Monthly Goal from Life In Pieces

I was so glad to make it to Friday, only to discover that I'd missed the deadline on some important reports. So the first 6 hours of my day off were spent not in the sewing room, but on my work computer finishing up what was supposed have been turned in Thursday.  We get up at 4:30 AM (yes even on our day off) so I was done by 10:30, but it made for a lousy start to the day.  That's the kind of week it's been. I'm hoping that it will be calmer ...

To Do Tuesday - The Last Challenging Work Week of 2019 from Life In Pieces

One work day done, three work days left in this week. And all three are jam packed, including a working dinner on Wednesday evening.  Hopefully life will slow down a bit next week.  No work days last week, but with family in town and prep for the holiday, sewing room time was minimal. Even so there are two check marks and progress on the last two items on last week's list.

Weekly To Do List for 11/26/2019
1. Medallion Butterfly Panel - Stitch Butterfly names in upper left corner of panel
2. Frolic - Get started on clue 1 ...

Wrapping up November from Life In Pieces

Hope everyone in the US had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  We had 22 here for dinner. We split the cooking duties with My Guy's youngest sister, she does the turkey, the Scientist in Training does the ham.  Allows us to have two ovens going all morning, which makes a huge dent in how much has to get done in one kitchen.  It was nice to catch up with everybody, see how big all the little ones are getting.

Thanksgiving was about as late as it can be this year.  So with just a couple of days left in the month ...

An Almost Nothing But Stitching Day from Life In Pieces

After all the mania and stress of last week, My Guy and I took the opportunity to have a much lower key weekend.  Last week was his first full week back at work after surgery, he was pretty tired by Friday.  He's still not quite 100%, but is slowly working his way back to normal.  We spent Saturday in Tulsa with the Scientist in Training doing our Thanksgiving meal shopping.  The SIT has classes today, but all her classes for tomorrow were canceled, so she'll be home around dinner time tonight.

Other than a few loads of laundry ...

To Do Tuesday: Seems to Be Working from Life In Pieces

It's been 4 weeks since my first link up with "To Do Tuesday".  I've yet to check everything off my list, but there has been good progress on the projects that are on each week's list.  So the making a list approach has been working, so I'll stick with it for now.  We'll see how well it works once the holiday rush gets going.

Last week was pretty good, two check marks and good progress on the other project isn't shabby at all.

Weekly to Do List for 11/12/19

1. Twinkle Stars ...

A Bit of Progress from Life In Pieces

Thankfully it was a slow down, relaxing at home weekend.  Work has been nuts and will likely continue that way till the end of the first week in December.  So I took the opportunity this weekend to not only catch up on laundry, but on a couple of design wall projects as well.

Getting the pieced borders on Twinkle Stars has proved more difficult than I anticipated. The left border had to be taken off and the sections re-stitched with narrower seams to match the seams in the top.  There were a few places where there were obvious pleats in ...

To Do Tuesday - Not a Total Loss from Life In Pieces

Work is in overdrive, so there have been a few long days the last couple of weeks.  Add in a trip to see the Scientist in Training over the weekend and the end result was not a lot of sewing room time. Consequently,  the To Do list from last week is a bit sad.

Weekly To Do List for the Week of 11/5/2019

1. Twinkle Stars - Piece left side border - progress
2. Finish Clue 4 of the 2019 Christmas Mystery
3. Storm at Sea - Cut border strips and assemble - no progress

One check mark out of three isn ...

To Do Tuesday - Definite Progress from Life In Pieces

I was lucky and had two vacation days to spend at home this last week.  That meant there was extra time to play in the sewing room. I didn't check every thing off last week's list, but there was progress on every item.

Weekly To Do List for 10/29/2019

1.  Vintage Dresses - finish binding
2.  Finish pieced border for Twinkle Stars - progress
3.  Finish clue 3 for the 2019 Christmas Mystery

The plan has been to focus the to do list on just a few projects in hopes that there are a few more finishes before ...
