Construction Baby COMPLETE from Wedding Dress Blue

The rectangle squared pattern is versatile. Great for focus fabrics or large-ish prints.

I had a stack of miscellaneous scraps. Just added some matching colors and a black for the sashing (to look a little like streets).

The piecing was good enough to take geometric quilting, which I usually avoid. But this time it felt right and adds to the traffic/construction feeling.

It finishes at 45″ square. I used leftovers to create the back. And into the donation pile it goes. YAY!

How is piecing the Dresden Star blocks going for you?
It's very quiet out there so I'm assuming I'm doing such a great job on the tutorials that there is no need for questions or you are all just watching me do this??
Whichever it is, I'm having a good time and making steady progress.  I have 13 finished star blocks and 4 half-blocks in preparation for today's post.

Today, I'll cover making the half-blocks and cutting the setting triangles in preparation for

Hi, all!

Welcome back!  I hope you are enjoying yourself as much as I am - I've re-discovered so many things I've wanted to do in the past, as well as some old favorites re-visited.  After yesterday's post, I'm on the lookout for some really cute Christmas fabric to make new pillow covers for this year.  I'll save the buffalo check ones until they come back in style again!

Today I'll be sharing some fun things you can do with your kids, grandkids, or neighborhood kids - activities to keep them busy and stoke their creative ...

Part 3 -- Dresden Stars Tutorials from Quilting through Rose-colored Trifocals!

Are you ready to give this block a try?  Today's tutorial is long but full of pictures which I hope will make it easy to follow.  Read all the way through it first, then sew through it slowly.  If you don't "get it", just do it and it will make sense as you finish the first block.  If you didn't pull out a UFO for "leaders/enders" (I know you have at least one), do that before you start to sew.  Not only will it make the rhythm of the process smoother, it will be a win-win ...

Day Three of the Twelve Days of Christmas in July! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

 Hi, all!

My subdivision won't allow us to have chickens, so unfortunately I can't provide three French hens for today's hop!  (But since it's Sunday, maybe I'll go get some fried chicken for lunch... yum!)  Instead, we have a blogpost from my friend Carole over at From My Carolina Home.  Carole's always doing fun things on her blog and I can't wait to see what she's up to.  I know that she's planning something with all this....

...and she'll share it all with you today and next Sunday.  Kind of ...

Halfway COMPLETE from Wedding Dress Blue

It was a UFO, set aside since 2021.

But, now it is complete.

This is a different version than the original Halfway Quilt, using only two of the four possible block variations. It has a little less movement, more stability. You can decide which one you prefer.

This version uses 56 blocks and finishes at 84″ x 96″. Promised tutorial coming soon.

Boomerang - FREE 10" Transparency Quilt Block from easypatchwork

Hi there! Thanks for joining me today! Yes, I see that there wasn't but one post written in 2022 and this is the first post in 2023! We are going to have to change that!

I have been very busy the last few months exploring transparency in quilt blocks. When I was doing my research, I couldn't find any quilt samplers just a few blocks. Then I started to explore transparency in several different quilt blocks and decided we needed to change that too.

I don't want to give too much away, but I wanted to share ...

A Quick And Effective from Wedding Dress Blue

As many of you know, I keep promising scraps and hand-me-downs in a Possibilities Pile.

It was time to dig some out and pair them up with a promising idea. THIS TUTORIAL was perfect.

In three days I took the pile of scraps and created a nice baby quilt for donation. The back took a little extra creativity, but it works. To be quilted soon…

Second Chance Quilt: Crumbs Or Braids, You’ve Got It Made from Wedding Dress Blue

What if you have a pile of color-coordinated bits and pieces, but they aren’t the same? Can you combine blocks, crumbs and braids? Well, you can try.

I used the existing crumb blocks as a starting point. They measure 6-1/2″. Cutting, turning and trimming the braids yielded enough parts to create seven more blocks. For a baby quilt, 9 blocks is enough. NOTE: You could create this same pattern using any 6-1/2″ blocks you might have laying around.

NOTE: These blocks have a lot of bias edges. Consider starch to stabilize.

Add a border around each block ...

My Coaster Tutorial from Quilt in Progress

I think everyone who makes a coaster has her/his own way of doing it. I have decided on this method because for me it’s a bit faster and a little more fun in the fabric choice.

I made a set of 4 coasters for my sister, different fabrics, but all with the same applique. Here it is broken down into steps.

  • Cut a central fabric 4×4 inches. I used white.
  • Cut cotton batting and a backing fabric 4 3/4 x 4 3/4 inches. My backings match either the border or the applique.
  • Trace your applique ...

Union Jack Mug Rug Tutorial from Quilt Doodle Doodles

Did you get up early to watch the Coronation of King Charles III? I did! I just love the history and celebration of it all. I'm a little bit of a royal junkie, love watching history be it historical fiction or something on the history channel. I love the horses, the royal carriages, the waving of the British flag and the excitement of all the people. I don't think we even have anything that compares to it here in the US. So, to extend the celebration I have a tutorial on how to make an easy Union Jack ...

Jolly Bar Jump Reduced and FINISHED from Wedding Dress Blue

As usual, this started with a pile of donated scraps, this batch from Diane. I used many of them on a PREVIOUS QUILT, but there were still a good number left over.

Then inspiration struck in the form of a FREE PATTERN. I had to reduce the size, but it quickly added up to a pretty baby quilt.

It will be donated to the local children’s hospital. Someone is sure to love it.

The cut-off HSTs are in the pending pile and will be used in a future project. Every scrap seems to find its place.

Camping Baby COMPLETE (Mini Tutorial) from Wedding Dress Blue

By “Camping” I mean Summer Camp. All those fun, outdoors activities that are part of growing up.

Again, this started with a small amount (about 3/4 yard) of the focus fabric, and was a quick finish as the blocks only have 7 pieces. The woodsy backing reinforces the theme.

MINI TUTORIAL: Start with a center 5″ square. Add 6 rectangles 5″ x 2-3/4″. That’s it! You’ll have a 9″ finished block. I used 20 blocks in this quilt, finishing at 26″ x 45″. It was fun, and a bit of a challenge, to get the scrap ...
