Sewing, Baking, Napping and More from Needle and Foot

Lots going on around here lately. My husband has finally decided he is ‘done’ renovating our little house in Downieville and it is listed for sale. We bought it some years ago after I saw it for sale during a quilting retreat up in the mountains. We have enjoyed many weekends up there and Ray has really outdone himself with updating it. I suspect it will sell easily and make someone very happy.

A “Before” photo

This is a shot of the living room when we were first looking at the house.

The same angle with Ray’s updates!

Verdens eldste vandringsmann... from Iinas Sewing Machine Poetry

Hele sangen kan du høre her.

Faith is the bird that feels the light and sings when the dawn is still dark from Iinas Sewing Machine Poetry

SAQA trenger penger for å holde organisasjonshjulene i gang.

"Hjerter slår også i vakuum" from Iinas Sewing Machine Poetry

Hele Salme 139 kan du lese her.

Kontrasten mellom lyset og ...

Project Quilting Inspiration from Mulberry Patch Quilts

It’s that time of year again! The holidays are over, and it’s time for Kim Lapacek of Persimon Dreams to begin the first week of the Project Quilting Season 10 challenge.

When I saw the first challenge phrase, “Hope Springs Eternal“, I instantly thought of a photo my son & daughter-in-law sent us of our sweet little granddaughter looking up in awe as she “helped” decorate their Christmas tree.

Isn’t she a sweetie? She’s just between 1-1/2 & 2…So this is the first time she’s really enjoying the tree. And that look on her face ...

Funky Mountain Landscape Quilt Finished from Quilting & Learning

Funky Mountain Landscape Art Quilt

It's done! I have to admit that I'm surprised that I finished it in time for the August One Monthly Goal (OMG) deadline.

As I mentioned in a previous post, this funky mountain landscape quilt is for Joe's graduation and her first apartment. Joe is one of my daughter's friends, and a real sweetheart :-)

Funky Mountain Landscape Quilt is finally finished!
I really enjoyed working with the batiks. It adds some great colour to a traditional landscape.

Thread sketching the mountains

This is the photo that started it all. It was ...

Lots of progress from Quilting & Learning

It's amazing how portable hexies are! I've been making hexie flowers everywhere, mostly so that I can have the opportunity to take pictures of them. These are both very addictive activities.

A Venture into Thread Sketching from twiddletails

Protea Fabric Sketching
The reason I wanted to try printing on fabric was that I wanted to experiment with using thread to bring out the details in the image.
I purposely manipulated the photo to ensure that it did not look like an actual photo when printed.

What followed was a lot of research into thread sketching and thread painting. I started off trying to find instructions for thread painting techniques but quickly realized that this entailed covering the entire surface of the fabric in stitching. Not what I had in mind. I just wanted to enhance the image with quilting.

This is ...

"Hope" is the thing with feathers from Iinas Sewing Machine Poetry

Happy Thanksgiving! from Roxane Lessa Fine Textile Art

Please click on the title to read the full post.

Hi Everyone!

Welcome to the new readers!

Just a quick note to wish everyone a Happy Holiday! I did a little painting and more quilting on the Hawaiian piece. It’s almost done.

And the other day, this tree closer to home caught my eye!

I used my heavy hand dyed cotton ArtFabrik thread to create the tall grasses. And of course, my signature is hiding in there somewhere…

Be well and eat a lot of whatever is yummy!

Don’t be shy! Come and join my:

What is Thread Sketching? from Roxane Lessa Fine Textile Art

Please click on the title to read the full post.

Hi Everyone!

Welcome to the new readers!

What is thread sketching? I think it is intense free motion quilting for a desired effect. Thread painting on the other hand completely covers the underlying fabric. I generally don’t like to do that, since my fabrics are part of the design.

While I was in Kauai, I feel in love with these trees, and knew I had to make a piece about them. And what better background than the brilliant blue Pacific ocean?

When I got home and studied the picture ...

Art with Fabric Blog Hop - Gaïa, Mother Earth from Quilting & Learning

It's that time again - the semi-annual Art with Fabric Blog Hop - Fall 2017!

I've been participating in Alida's blog hop for two years now. This will be my fourth entry. It's a great event - I get to make an art quilt from a piece of art that I love, and see all of the participants' creations. Thanks Alida for organising this again!

Gaïa, Mother Earth

This fall event's theme is Mother Nature, sometimes known as Gaïa, the goddess of the earth.

My entry is based on a reproduction statuette of a beautiful Pre-Columbian female figure ...
