Sew Easy Gifts ~ Quick Sew Jar Openers from Life in the Scrapatch

I took a few minutes break from quilting for a hot cup of herbal tea and honey
and to sew two of these
Quick Gift Jar Openers
because I needed a couple of simple gifts for friends.

5 inch squares - 1 -2 -3
I had my walking foot on my machine which is what I like to use for these
and I decided the thread for my quilt
matched the gold in the fabrics just right.

I trim these after I sew and turn and use my
Clover 2 Point Turner
to push out the pints and smooth the edge ...

Perfect 5 Sampler QAL ~ Biscotti Block from Life in the Scrapatch

Perfect 5 Sampler QAL ~ Week 3 ~ Part 1
4 Biscotti Blocks

This is a cute block and it was easy to sew.
I am sewing the sampler quilt so I only had to make four of these 9" blocks.
I like the fabrics I chose, four colors of the same print.
They will look nice in the sampler quilt.

That said ...

The throw size quilt in the book calls for thirty two of these blocks.
The first sewing instruction says to
"Draw a diagonal line ... two hundred and fifty-six Fabric C squares."

Um   .. . no thank you.
This is a good ...

Perfect 5 QAL ~ Week 2 from Life in the Scrapatch

Perfect 5  Sampler Quilt QAL ~ Week 2  ~ Blocks 3 & 4

I have decided that I love the ruler.
It has wonderfully easy to read marks for 2.5 and 4.5
and other cuts needed for these blocks.

As I am vision impaired I am always looking for rulers that are easy to see.

I actually have the Perfect 10 Ruler
and since I am cutting a layer cake for my quilt,
I am using the larger ruler on this quilt as well.

Trying Something New ~ Stitching In Hand from Life in the Scrapatch

"Stitching in hand"
which means stitching without a hoop or frame.

I learned this method from
Kimberly Jolly @ Fat Quarter Shop Flosstube
which I watch every week
whether I am actively working on a cross stitch project or not.

Then

I last worked on this project,
and was using this heavy wooden frame.
It worked well, but I want my project to be easier to carry with me
to stitch wherever I happen to be.

Since I am a seasonal stitcher and quilter,
I put this away during the warm weather and growing season.
It is ...

It is November, a month that makes me think
of all things that say "Home" to me.

November is one of my favorite months.
In truth, I say this about every month.

It is a month of thanksgiving.
In truth, I am thankful every day of every month.

In truth, I look for what makes me happy everyday.

I Like Thursday # 33 ~ The Last Blooms of Summer from Life in the Scrapatch

Time to treasure the last blooms of summer.
It is chilly and rainy and winter is coming soon.

My nastursiums, planted by seed along the garden wall,
are still colorful.

My cosmos, also planted by seed, have been blown over by the strong winds
but they are still waving the feathery greens and pretty pink blooms.

My Arizona Sun Gaillardia have spread and this new plant is still blooming.
I love the puff balls that form when the flowers are gone.
The lavender is still putting out fragrant little purple ends.

Wherever I look I see the reminders that life ...

Today is my 10th Blogiversary! from Life in the Scrapatch

Today is the 10 Year Anniversary of my blog!

I started this humble blog as a personal journal of my quilting Life in the Scrapatch.

As you can see,  my first efforts were small.

For many years I had about 25 followers, all friends from the online forums
where I learned much about quilting.

In a small way, the blog was also my efforts to "give back" or "pay forward" to others
how they helped me on my quilting journey.
So I have offered free patterns and tutorials and tips in my posts
that I ...
