Sashiko Slow Stitch Sunday from Life in the Scrapatch

Today I started a new slow stitch sashiko project.

I really enjoy these small hand stitching.

This is the back of my project.
I use solid fabric that does not have a front or back side for sashiko.
I have no idea if I am "doing it wrong."
I find and use methods and techniques that work for me.
I mark with a Clover Chaco Liner pen and it rubs off a little as I stitch
but it last long enough for me to stitch and it is not permanent.
I actually put as few marks as possible.
Sometimes I ...

My New Quilt Is Bound! from Life in the Scrapatch

The binding is finished on my Daylily Chloe Quilt.

I took it outside on this lovely sunny Saturday for a photoshoot.

I am pattern testing for

This pattern will be for sale soon in her shop
and I will post my finished quilt photos for the release.

For my binding I used the light periwinkle print from the blocks for the accent color
and added a dark purple marble for the main color.
I used King Tut Threads for the quilting and binding,
Angle Green for the quilting and Angel Lavender for the binding.

I like to ...

Rainy Days and Quilting Never Bring Me Down from Life in the Scrapatch

It was a gray and rainy day here today, a good day to stay in and quilt.

I finished the quilting on my

Those last stitches are always sew sweet!

Katniss was my Quilty Kitty Helper of the Day.
The little kitties were both napping on the quilt on my bed most of the day.

Here is a closeup of the quilting.

I did an edge to edge, hand guided large swirl,
which is my favorite go-to design for free motion quilting.
I never get tired doing this one
as the motion is ...

Quilty Kitty Alert! from Life in the Scrapatch

Nutmeg says, "Mommy, Come Here!"

I had just finished up something in the kitchen, when I heard Nutmeg meowing
loudly in the quilting room.
I found her perched here on the back rail of my quilting frame.

"Something is missing, Mommy!"

"Why is there no quilt here?"

Nutmeg was napping on a quilt in the bedroom
while I took the last quilt off the frame
and cleaned up my workspace.

No worries, Nutmeg.
Nothing is wrong.
My long arm is ready and waiting for my new quilt.

I am ready to pin.

Nutmeg decided to keep watch outside.

Tomorrow we ...

Sweep Me Away ... from Life in the Scrapatch

... to a peaceful place.

This is

I have been waiting for this collection to hit the shops
and was shopping online and was finding bits of it here and other bits there
when I found that my favorite local quilt shop
had the entire collection!

My Scrapatch was doing his curbside pick up errands and was actually at
this shop picking up some much needed rotary cutting blades and machine needle for me
so I called him and called them ...

and ended up with three yards of ...

I am making more masks for essential workers.
All I need to do is finish cutting and shaping the nose wires
and another batch will be ready to sew.

I pre-wash all fabrics and wear a mask when sewing.

May these masks help keep someone well.

May you and yours stay well and safe.

Jelly Beans & Jelly Rolls Time from Life in the Scrapatch

I have lots of jelly rolls.

These would be a good choice for the

I think the white jelly roll would be the darkest fabric with this choice.
The red would be the binding fabric.

Hunting for jelly beans and just the right jelly roll ....

I also found these 3 half-yards of fabrics and small ombre jelly roll.

The dark gray print would be the darkest fabric in this quilt.
The house print would be the medium blue, I think.
The text print the lightest fabric in the cross.

Hmmmmmmm ...  choices, choices.

Which would you ...

Daylily Fields Forever from Life in the Scrapatch

I am loving these blocks!

These pretty fabrics flowing through my fingers were a real pick me up tonight.

I have been sewing masks every day, including today, and it was time for something quilty.

When I was cutting, I saw that these fabrics have, indeed, been in my stash
for a very long time ... since 2007!
Both the green and periwinkle had chunks cut out of them for other projects.
The daylily fabric has never been cut though.

I am sew happy this pretty fabric is out of the deep dark stash closet
and will soon be a pretty ...

Still Sewing Masks

Adding wire nose pockets.

Adding an inner filter layer cut from a new vacuum cleaner liner.
The white film is the filter to go over the nose and mouth area
to hopefully add an extra bit of protection.

I am using up any usable elastic I have,
including cutting the wide elastic in half lengthwise.

I have some of the round coated elastic.
My machine does not like this much, even when using my heavy duty walking foot.
I have had frequent thread breaks and it has even bent a 90/14 ballpoint needle.
The best method ...

I Like Thursday # 49 ~ A Day in the Scrapatch from Life in the Scrapatch

Our pansies are still in pots, braving wind and rain and snow and temperatures in the 20s.
I have them on my back porch tucked up against the house for shelter.
Soon as it stops raining ... in a day or two ... I will fill my window boxes
and they will lift their pretty faces to the sun.

Nutmeg enjoyed a patch of sun yesterday morning
that the new storm door that Mr Scrapatch installed
lets in to warm our kitchen.

Kitty practiced proper social distancing from the neighbor cat
who came peeking up the steps at her.
Nutmeg howled and ...

Bind This Quilt ~ OMG April 2020 from Life in the Scrapatch

Note to Self: Time to Bind this Quilt

was finished in 2018.

The Quilting Completed Here in June of 2019.

For awhile I did not have the right binding fabric.
So it slid toward the bottom of my to-do pile.
I found the green barbed wire fabric on sale awhile back.
No more excuses.

Time to bind this quilt!

Sew Sampler Sewing ~ March Box 2020 from Life in the Scrapatch

It was another rainy sewing day today.

We have snow in the forecast for tonight as the temperature dips.

I also washed floors and cleaned house today as I do every Monday.
I also started my spring closet reorganization,
putting away the warm fleece and taking out the t-shirts and capris.

These days, though, I seem more obsessive about sanitizing door knobs
and locks and outside handles.

The pretty fabrics and colors soothed my quilty soul.
This one was sew lovely to work with.
The colors seem to glow on the background,
which appears gray but may have a touch ...

Sunday Scrappy Sewing from Life in the Scrapatch

Today these pretty new fabrics called to me.

These pretties are

I cut all the fabrics for a new quilt.

The I decided to do some improv sewing with some of the smallest scraps.

Soon I had this mini quilt made from the scraps from the box.

The I picked out some more scraps and sewed some more.

An hour later I had a finished an improv mini quilt.

I found a scrap ...

Some Things to Smile About from Life in the Scrapatch

This patch of crocus in my backyard has lifted their blooms to the sun.

I am making progress on my sunflower sewing.

Mr Scrapatch, Bounty Hunter,
brought home the bounty.
(We are not hoarders; we really needed these
and we shared with our neighbor. )

I made cupcakes to celebrate.
They are (l-r)
Mango Tango,
Chocolate Pudding Cups,
Vanilla Sprinkles,
and Rum Butter Pecan.

I had Mango Tango.
filled and topped with some jam from a jar of organic goodness.

Yum!

I Like Thursday # 48 ~ These Days from Life in the Scrapatch

These days,
the pretty fabrics flowing through my fingers are needed more than ever to
help make me feel calm and happy.

When I typed "these days"
this lyric popped unbidden into my head ...

"Well, I'll keep on movin', movin' on
Things are bound to be improving these days
One of these days"

Want to play name that song?

This is not a happy upbeat song,
written by a singer/songwriter when he was 16,
who was not always a happy man.

But it holds on to a seed of better times in the future.

I am planting and ...

Bone Broth for the Little One Tutorial ~ Part 4 ~ Snap Attach Pillow Back from Life in the Scrapatch

  "Snap Attach Pillow Back"

This is tutorial of how I make my envelope backs for my pillow covers
 with decorative snap closures.

This post shows how to make an envelope pillow Back with a decorative snap closure.

I like to think of this as a two-side pillow.
When these are in use on my sofa and chairs,
I turn them frequently so they wear evenly.

In my house this pillow covered a Christmas applique toss pillow for its photos.
Then I gifted this pillow to The ...
