This and that, and other stuff. Oh, and my mood, too!

…and some perspective.
Being in the new sewing room is wonderful. Being in the fabric/cutting room is wonderful. I hope this is a long-lasting solution to the hiccups I’ve had in my quest to make more of anything.
Mod Owls Revival has been the top priority because the last class session is Thursday. I started on the flying geese last Friday. They were constructed in the four-at-a-time no-waste method. This is not my favorite way to construct flying geese, but I followed the cutting directions for creating them the way the pattern designer instructed, and decided I would ...

My, oh my. I sat down at my new table a few days ago and sewed for the first time at home in about six weeks. And then I did it again for six hours for two days in a row! And I slept! Ah, quilting, you are so good for me.
But back to Mod Owls—When I cut the pieces for the quilt a few weeks ago, I cut out more than necessary. I don’t want to make the quilt bigger; I wanted to make sure I had plenty ...

I have no doubts that if you’re one of my regular readers, you know that I’m easily pleased by little (and some big) things that happen around here. The Hubs overthinks construction on the level that I overthink everything else, and I have to admit that sometimes he has better ideas than me. Yes, I can own that. So while I had what I thought were “there’s no way it won’t be anything but this” moments, serendipitous epiphanies happen while you’re arranging and rearranging, and they make me happy ...

The heat and humidity are here, flowers are blooming, veggies are growing, and I can’t get enough sewing time.
My words for this year are “catalog” and “organization”—Nothing romantic about that, is there?
In August I had the privilege of two Girlfriends volunteering to get my studios in shape. Katrina and Cindy came over and weeded through the studio paraphernalia and got me to a state of Nirvana. I don’t have much in the way of before photos, but here are a few from the first 4 months in our new home:

We had no plan of attack other than to get it done. Katrina arrived that Friday afternoon and we started emptying all of ...

Yes, we are now in our new home on top of the ridge. We moved in the weekend of my 65th birthday. The last 5 months have been jam-packed with unpacking, cleaning, sifting through things we haven’t looked at in 3 years…and it’s glorious.
And things are getting settled, slowly—we were only able to take 2 days off when we moved in April, and since then the only time we have had off was when our granddaughter stayed with us for 3 weeks—and that was ...

And HI THERE! I know it’s been a while. Life, and all that. There’s a lot to catch up on and I will be making a few posts here and there. Yes, we have moved into our new home and we are still getting settled. I promise I’ll get you all caught up. But first, I want to talk about patterns:
I have purchased many patterns during my quilting life. I have sold or re-homed many patterns, too. I’m trying my best to not purchase patterns on impulse—and that’s hard ...

We headed to the east coast--Myrtle Beach has been a favorite destination for us for several years. The soothing sound of the waves held healing properties for me when my one of autoimmune issues was diagnosed almost 3 years ago. It helped me understand that stress is the enemy and it is good to stop and do nothing.
A week before we left I thought I would visit the local quilt shops, but since we flew and could not get a rental car, and Uber and Lyft rides cost double what they did when ...

Even without the pandemic, life took some crazy turns for us in 2020. Hubs and I made decisions regarding our future, and I had to make some decisions regarding my work life.
Due to work life, school took a back seat. I dropped the classes I had enrolled in that would have started mid-January 2020; the workload ramped up that same week. Over a year later, I’m working from home 11-12 hours per ...

Oh, so much to share and tell. I have a lengthy post coming soon, but today, TODAY! Starting today, I have 5 consecutive days to make my beloved sewing space to where I can use it! Of course, other unpacking will happen, too, but the Studio—I’m giddy!
So just to give you a sneak peek as to what our surroundings have been for the past 5 weeks, here you go, take a look at my Instagram account, @aprimandnotsoproperquilter.
