Mystical Horse 2 Ways – OBW #120 from If These Threads Could Talk

I chose this panel for all the horses I have loved.

Mystical horse by Rubin Design Studio is so vibrant, I just love it.

This is me on Buck, our first horse. In 1966 I was living in Las Vegas. I was in the 4H Club. Every year we participated in a parade down the Las Vagas Strip. I was such a tomboy. I once caught a wild mustang and brought it home. He was tearing up the corral so bad I had to set him free the next day. At least he had water and a meal.

Mystical Horse ...

Daydreamin & Repeating Ourselves from If These Threads Could Talk

Terri and I did a thing! Terri Butler is my friend and fellow Studio 180 Design Certified Instructor. While we were at H&H Americas in Chicago we had an idea.

These two panels were created by Frond Design for Northcott Fabrics. Terri had it on her design wall and I have had them in my OBW stash for a couple of years. The normal thing would be to stitch the halves together and design around them. Why be normal? We decided to do what we do best. A One Block Wonder coat and quilt out of the same panels ...

1776 – OBW #118 from If These Threads Could Talk

1776 panel designed by the Morris Group for QT Fabrics measures 38″ x 32″. This beautiful Eagle panel will be in shops Fall 2025.

The 1776 fabric line offers everything needed to create your own 1776 quilt. You can finish it in time to celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday in 2026.

I chose 5 coordinating fabrics to add to my story. I choose fabrics before I know what my design approach will be. The flags with the light blue background ended up on the back of the quilt.

I used Deb Tucker’s First Choice Rulers to cut my ...

Block Party Block #58 - Crossed Patch from Quilting Affection

Block Party Block #58—Crossed Patch is a fun and simple quilt block that uses only two units: the Shaded Four Patch and the Four Patch. To create these units, you will need your Tucker Trimmer, the Four Patch Square Up tools, and the Shaded Four Patch Technique Sheet.

This tutorial will guide you through making the units for this block. It does not replace the tool instructions and technique sheet. I used scraps from Deb Tucker’s Studio 180 Design Bubbles, Curves, and Corner fabric that I have left over. I chose four different fabrics from the collection and ...

Island Batik Ambassador Drunkard’s Path Challenge – Tick Tock from Quilting Affection

This month's Island Batik Ambassador project theme was Drunkard’s Path! We were tasked with designing quilts that featured the timeless Drunkard’s Path block, which needed to be at least lap size or larger.

Misty Morning

Dark Grey and White Solids

For my project, I used the Island Batik Misty Mornings fat quarter bundle. I also incorporated solid white and dark gray fabrics, with the dark gray being a perfect accent.

I selected the design I had created a couple of years ago, but had never used. My original design featured 6-inch appliqué ...

Enchanted – OBW #117 from If These Threads Could Talk

The Enchanted panel is designed by the Morris Creative Group and brought to us by QT Fabrics. In quilt shops now.

When I first saw this panel I thought of the song “Castles in the Sky” by Ian Van Dahl, 1999. I thought that I would try to design around the castle as if it was floating.

I always say “the fabric starts talking to me” while I’m make the hexies. I cut my strips 2.75″ wide to yield 4″ finished hexies. I did not use the borders when I cut my strips. I ended up with 210 ...

March It's All Up to You Challenge - Capped 60 Runner from Quilting Affection

March’s Island Batik Ambassador Challenge is called "It’s All Up to You," meaning the Ambassadors have a month to create any project of any size, theme, and technique using Island Batik fabrics. This gives us a chance to have a little fun this month.

What was I going to make this month? I knew I had the Sunlit Garden Strip Set and Coordinating fabrics, including Egg White from the Neutrals collection and Vibes from the Marvelous Multis. But what could I do with Strip sets? I wanted to make a new spring table runner for my coffee table ...

Block Party Block #56 - Birthday Cake Tutorial Part 1 Flock of Birds from Quilting Affection

Block Party Block #56—Birthday Cake is a delightful project to create. This block requires the Studio 180 Design Tucker Trimmer, Wing Clipper, and Square Squared tools. Additionally, it uses the Flock of Birds Technique Sheet for the corner pieces.

In this blog, I will provide a tutorial on the Flock of Birds Technique. Part 2 will include the Flying Geese and Block Construction.

The fabric I used is leftovers from my February Blog Hop Collection. The block is made from Jackie Kunkel’s Canton Village Quilt Works “Cosmic” fabric collection for Island Batik by Lumin Fabrics. This collection is ...

Creepin It Real Again! from If These Threads Could Talk

I am teaching at The Quilt Crossing in Boise Idaho in June. The owner of the shop is a fan of my work. She commissioned a One Block Wonder from me last year. Laura really loves Halloween and made an offer on QT Fabric‘s “Creepin it Real”.

I accepted her offer. She had 7 more “Creepin It Real” panels. These panels would enable me to make it again.

It is fun to see the differences. With the first “Creepin It Real” I cut my strips 3.75″ for 6″ finished hexies. With “Creepin It Real 2″, I cut my ...

Crystal Pendants from Sew Preeti Quilts

Island Batik's February Challenge and BlogHop requires the ambassadors to use their assigned Fall 2024 collection (I got Radiant Burst) and the Studio 180 Design Tool (I got Wing Clipper) to make a Table Runner or a Bed Runner.

Sounds simple? Yes. But wait there is more.

1. We must make at least 12 units.

2. Use as many fabrics (from the 20 in the collection) as possible.

NOW, we have a challenge :-)

Well, here is my response.

Glowing Front

And I used leftover blocks from Mirabelle to make the backing, so it is two-sided.

Moody Back

Blooming Bouquet OBW #115 from If These Threads Could Talk

I unlocked the door and stepped into the room. The full moonlight shone through the window, illuminating a small table with a beautiful blooming bouquet of flowers.  I saw the vase reflected on the French doors.  I stepped onto the balcony and looked to my right and saw the Eiffel Tower lit up above the rooftops.

I always try to find the story the fabric is telling me. The Blooming Bouquet panel designed by Suzanne Allard and QT Fabrics transported me to Paris.

The colors were so vibrant I didn’t want to distract from them. I added Star 60 ...
