Sunday Stash September 26, 2021 from Quilt Paint Create

No changes here last week. The sewing machine ran for less than 30 minutes.

With no sewing going on, I have to rely on something stitchy to add interest.

I picked up the penguins from the framer yesterday. I usually frame projects myself, but the piece needed a weird size frame and the outer border would have made a poor centering job obvious. I decided to let a pro handle it.

I have a couple more odd-sized pieces that need framed. I’m pleased with quality of the work and may take those in too.

No change in the numbers this week.

I’m a little over half way through the quilting on Waugh Street Christmas.

I’d love to finish it this month, but there’s a lot going on this week. Some long days at work will cut into my quilting time.

I finished the runner that served as a practice piece for the Waugh Street Christmas quilting design.

I enjoyed quilting this one and loved the design. It did exactly what I wanted it to do. Panels are such a great way to practice free motion quilting.

This project was my September OMG. I was determined to finish it over the long weekend rather than dragging it out.

No fabric in this week. I haven’t visited a quilt shop in months.

No change in the numbers. Maybe next week.

I finished the November blocks for Stars In The Night. I have five of the twelve months done now.

I pressed the seams open to help the blocks lay flat. There are seven seams coming together at the center. Open seemed like the way to go

I plan to work on the January blocks next.

No change in the numbers. It should really go without saying.

I sewed and trimmed all the HSTs this week for the Stars In The Night blocks.

I need to pick another name for this quilt. The original had a dark background, mine not so much. You definitely won’t be thinking night when you look at my quilt.

Maybe this week I can sew the blocks. Anything more complicated than sewing squares together seems to take me forever.

No change in the numbers.

After much debating, I decided to resume piecing the Stars In The Night BOM. I wanted something I could work on 20 minutes at a time on week nights. With no such project I spend my nights stitching. That’s done wonders for my stitching wish list, but it doesn’t use fabric or reduce the long list of quilts either in process or planned.

Having ignored it for years, I spent a good while figuring out where I left off and how I wanted to approach it going forward. If I hadn’t scaled ...

In spite of a crazy week, I finished Circles for a little fabric out. I also got the borders on Waugh Street Christmas. After much auditioning, simpler made the most sense.

Today I need to find something light for the back. I buy a lot of neutrals, but rarely more than one yard cuts. I need 1.25 yards if I don’t want to piece the back. Muslin would work, although I prefer a fun print.

It’s hard to believe, but the circle piece STILL isn’t finished. It’s just silly at this point. Guess what I’ll be doing today?

No change in the numbers goes without saying, but here it is for the record.

Except for the eyes and the metallic stars, I finished the “E” in Noel and started the “L”. Hand work is the cool kid on the block for me this year. It never gets old.

Sunday Stash August 1, 2021 from Quilt Paint Create

I paused a minute when I typed the date in the title. August? Really? I need to pay more attention to where I spend my time because I can hardly believe we’re eight months into the year.

I obviously am not spending my time in the sewing room because the numbers haven’t changed.

I hand stitched the circles down on the small art piece. I even basted it. Perhaps this one will be a finish next week.

I have a list of other projects I want to work on. I better pick up the pace if I ever ...

No change in the numbers.

I’m working on the challenge piece with circles. I hoped to make more progress this week, but life continues to get in the way.

The circles are fused. I have a plan for attaching them more permanently and ideas on how to quilt it. This one is 10” x 12”.

The background fabric and the dark pink circles are my hand dyes. The light pink circles are my painted fabric.

I’m working on using up some of my dyed and painted fabric to create space for more. When I take the time to ...

No change in the numbers.

I had a Guild meeting on Zoom yesterday that lasted hours. I used the time to piece Waugh Street Christmas, the project using the Sweet Christmas charm pack.

There will be two more rows at the bottom.

When I was little we lived in an old frame house on Waugh Street. The house had the wide wood trim all around the doorways between rooms. At Christmas we would tape all the Christmas cards that came in the mail around the doorways in the living and dining rooms. The arrangement of the charm squares reminds me ...

No change in the numbers.

We took a trip to Athens, Ohio for Quilt National this week. So many of our favorite stops had either closed, changed hands or moved that we spent a lot of time tracking things down. The quilt shop in the area had brand new owners, and they were still working to get the basics running. It’s a different world out there.

The exhibit was interesting, but not one of our favorites. Art is so subjective. Some years the pieces appeal to us more than others.

I made notes on some of the techniques I ...

Happy 4th to everyone in the United States! Gotta love the long weekend with extra time to relax.

No fabric in, but fabric out for the pillow.

After two finishes last week, I’m not motivated to work on the next thing. Instead I looked online and found a couple patterns that will work with one charm pack. Pulled the background fabric too. Now I need to make a decision and get cutting.

I bought the charm pack a few years ago at the AQS show. I love that the line has that vintage Christmas feel. No sense letting ...

No fabric in this week. A little fabric went out replacing the waistband on a pair of pants.

The big win for the week was finishing the Mill Hill Digging Out kit.

I bought the kit in early April and finished it two months after I started it. That’s record time for me to turn around any project. It feels incredible to have it done already.

If only quilt finishes came as fast.

I took a couple days off work this week and had a girls day out on one of them. We went to our favorite thrift and fabric came home with me.

There was also a yard of muslin. My only excuse is that I know I will use the neutrals and it cost next to nothing. Even thrifts have clearance sales.

Adding fabric has motivated me to spend time in the sewing room. I will have something to show for that next report.

Nothing changed with the numbers.

I intended to finish piecing the braid top yesterday, but it didn’t happen. Maybe I can finish that today.

I have made a lot of progress on Digging Out.

With my other projects, all I’ve made is a mess that I have to move out of the way to work on other things. Business as usual, more or less.

No fabric out this week.

I thought I’d stay in positive numbers, but my order from Fabric Mart came early. They had half off their entire site over Memorial Day weekend.

I’m very impressed with the quality and the short delivery time. The blue check is a brushed cotton shirting and the red is a tencel. It’s more red than it looks in the picture and feels wonderful. I’m looking forward to cutting into it.

I have a sew-in this morning to play with the Victoria Findlay Wolfe technique. I cut everything last weekend because I ...

No fabric in or out this week.

I seem to have a scrap problem in the sewing room. I swear they multiply when I’m not looking. It may be getting out of hand.

Every container on these shelves is full of scraps.

I’m debating what I want to do with them. A couple of different patterns come to mind, plus I need strips for a Guild sew in where we are playing with Victoria Findlay Wolfe’s techniques.

The scariest bin is the green bin. I made three quilts out of that bin and it’s still overflowing ...

I actually felt like sewing this week! It took a few days to shift out of hand stitch mode, and then I quilted Bonus Bunnies and made the binding.

I’m counting the fabric out because I’ll finish it today. Once I get a top quilted I never let it sit. I know some quilters have stacks of tops that need binding, but that will never be me. I like sewing the binding.

I think this quilt was my May OMG????? Why does the beginning of May feel like such a long time ago?

No fabric in this week.

I finished the Basic Crazy Quilt Course for some fabric out. I will post a review of the class and a reveal this week. I want to frame the piece but everything I have is too small.

For such a small project, I had beads, ribbon and floss everywhere. Now the sewing room is cleaned up and I’m ready to get back to Bonus Bunnies.

The next finish will put me back in positive usage.
