The Beginning of a Solids Cross-Hatch Quilt Top from Jan's Quilts

I really liked the Black and White Cross-Hatch Quilt Top; so I decided to make two more using solid color scraps.  I have plenty to those!  I spent some time sorting, then cutting enough 5" squares for the two new quilt tops.  Then I made the 80 HSTs I'll need for two tops.  I've become a believer in doing two at a time!

I am assembling each quilt top separately because I want them to look different.  I have the first 7 rows assembled, and the next 3 rows are already pinned together.  I just needed a little ...

The Solid Cross-Hatch Quilt Top is Complete, the First Edition from Jan's Quilts

I'm really happy with this Solid color version of the Cross-Hatch Quilt Top, warts and all.  On the Black and White version, I planned imperfection; this time it just happened.  Guess I'm Amish at heart.

I have enough squares and HST ready for another quilt top, Guess I better get busy!

As you can see, it's Frisco approved.  I had the darndest time getting and keeping him off this quilt top!  This time I made the squares 5", instead of 5.5".  That made the quilt top smaller, 51" x 64", as opposed to 56" x 70 ...

Nautical News Quilt - Almost Amish - Back in Stock! from Busy Hands Quilts

Nautical News in Almost Amish Solids has been restocked by Connecting Threads in the Twin size!  This is the third time it has been restocked because it sells so quickly.

Other Nautical News Quilts

This Nautical News Twin quilt was made by my niece when she was 12.  She cut all of the fabric and sewed it up by herself, and then I quilted it for her with Wandering Spirals.  Didn't she do a lovely job?!

I ♥ to figure out how to make quilt patterns into rainbows, and ...

Carpenter Star Quilt Tops from Jan's Quilts

Yes, I made two Carpenter Star quilt tops.  I made them at the same time; they were fast and easy.  The blue and green one will be for my great grandbaby, due in October; and the red, white, and blue one will be staying in my living room.

May your bobbins always be full,

Baby Paw from Sew Sunshine

This week was either wind and rain, or wind and cold or just wind. I have been chomping at the bit to get out and get some photos. Today it was sun and wind so I went out. I had moments when the quilt almost went into orbit but caught a few to share at least.

This is a Baby Paw. I have a great nephew that this is going to even though he just turned one already. ( I actually have his big brothers quilt even though he will turn 4) I digress.... ha

I had a bunch of solid ...

Iridescent from Liz Makes Crafts

The Midnight Quilt Show with Angela Walters may have been over for more than a year now ... but I'm certainly not done making quilts that were featured in the show. My latest finish is Iridescent, a bright all-solids quilt designed by Slice of Pi Quilts.

Iridescent was so easy and so satisfying to put together because it's just squares and half-square triangles. The color placement would have been very confusing except for the fact that the pattern offered up a helpful chart, so there was no mix-up at all. Sometimes I just don't want to have to ...

Intriguing Interleaves from Seaside Stitches

What a fun workshop this was! Mel Beach taught Intriguing Interleaves to Ninigret Quilters via Zoom in February. It is a quilt-as-you-go method, which means when the piecing is done, so is the quilting! How satisfying to have a completed project so soon after taking a class, and not another UFO for the pile!

Mel is an outstanding teacher who utilizes all the technology at her disposal to maximize student engagement in the virtual environment. She's the best we've seen since we started Zooming in April 2020.

I'm not going to get into the process here, but ...

Lady of the Lake Quilt from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

Once upon a time, the Lady of the Lake emerged from the waters of Avalon to bestow a magical sword on young King Arthur. Arthur took that sword to war and…was mortally wounded. What a shame! What if she had given him a fancy new sewing machine instead? Just imagine the quilts he could have made!

The Lady of the Lake quilt pattern is an old-fashioned favorite made entirely of half-square triangles. Jenny used layer cakes in bright white and “Horizon,” the 2021 Kona Color of the Year to create a two-color quilt that is lovely as a fairytale ...

Picket Fence Twin Quilt - The Solid Rainbow One! from Busy Hands Quilts

I have a beautiful rainbow quilt to share with you today!!  I actually made this quilt last fall but didn't share it here on the blog.  This quilt sold before it was even finished - no surprise there!  :)

Picket Fence is one of my favorite quilts to make because not every block is pieced, so it goes together quickly and still has a lot of WOW power.  :)

This quilt is the Twin size.

Layer Cake Friendly

Picket Fence is a layer cake friendly quilt pattern, and ...

Vacation Houses from Appalachian Quilts

With all this crazy weather, we can all dream about vacations right?  We can dream about sitting on the beach with our toes in the sand watching the tide come up just far enough to tickle our feet, then rushing back from whence it came.  We can dream about the smell of suntan lotion or the rays of the sun kissing our skin just enough to give us a golden glow.  We can dream about that drink in our hand with the little umbrella floating off to the side - I'm thinking sweet tea with lemon.  We can dream....

I ...

My Rainbow is filling in!!! from Appalachian Quilts

You will want to read all the way through to the end, so you can see our **SALE**.

I'm pretty sure our delivery people don't like delivering to us.  We had an 'incident' where the FedEx driver left a box of fabric out at the end of our 150 ft driveway (where we put our trash, I might add) and for the first time ever, Hubs called in.  The local social media site, coincidentally, had a rash of other deliveries that the same thing had happened to.  Whether it was everyone being keyboard warriors or thinking there was ...

Give Me a Solid! from Appalachian Quilts

It's always exciting when new fabric comes in.  The biggest disappointment is if there are backorders.  Unfortunately, this load is about half what was ordered.  Traditionally, solids have been used in Hawaiian quilts, Amish quilts and 30s reproduction quilts.  Now we are seeing a huge trend of solids in Modern quilts.  I'll be honest, I haven't used a lot of solids.  I can count on one hand how many quilts I have made with just solids.  Here are a few examples of highly popular patterns:

I still have the kits "Gee's Bend Quilts" both in my ...

Oh Happy Day! Quilt Finish from Dizzy Quilts

The quilt I'm sharing today had been on my list for a long time - since November 2016 to be exact. It was the quilt of the month Modern Quilt Guild members had access to and because I'm a huge fan of its designer - Yvonne Fuchs from Quilting Jetgirl - I just had to download it. Yvonne has since added the pattern to her shop here. It's a great quilt with fabulous instructions - I highly recommend it.

Yvonne's version was in a gorgeous orange and cream. When I flipped through my Kona card, the Emerald green really spoke ...

Sprinkle! from Dizzy Quilts

I didn't think I'd like this finish as much as I do. I mean, obviously, I liked the pattern because I bought it, but I was afraid my fabric choices wouldn't be great. When I purchased the pattern, I really wanted to make it out of the same colour but in different values. My stash, however, didn't have enough fat quarters of the same colours to make it work and I really didn't want to order fabric for this.

Anyhow - I went with solid fabric in a bunch of different colours and Kona Ash as ...

Stargazer from Liz Makes Crafts

Stargazer, designed by Rebecca Bryan, is a block-of-the-month I did last year. It was a big challenge, and after I was done with it, I felt so physically and mentally exhausted that I didn't want to look at it for quite awhile. So I put it away for a whole year ... but I finally decided it's time to quilt this.

Although I usually choose to quilt my quilts to death, I decided to try something different here for a change. I wanted to emphasize the beautiful geometric nature of this quilt, so I did a lot of dot-to-dot ...

Tire Tracks Quilt from Dizzy Quilts

When Yvonne from Quilting Jetgirl released her Tire Tracks quilt pattern back in June, I immediately clicked the Buy button. But then it took a little bit of time for the project to make it to the top of the queue.

For my version of the quilt, I chose to make the baby quilt size with Kona Ash as the background and Kona Cardinal.

The pattern looks really complicated, but it's actually quite simple. I followed Yvonne's instructions step-by-step and even labelled my blocks as I was making them. So when it came time to put the top ...

Birch Point Quilt Top from Jan's Quilts

This is my version of the Birch Point quilt top, pattern by The Blanket Statement.  When I say "my version", I really mean it. I cut and constructed the quilt differently from the pattern. I loved the look of her design but not the method. I did purchase the pattern, fair is fair.  Now to get it quilted by my LAQ.

I'm thinking of a black, gray, and white version, we'll see!

Solstice ~ Ready to Quilt from Liz Makes Crafts

Late last year after I finished the Stargazer Block-of-the-Month run by Rebecca Bryan, I said I wasn't going to do another one. Stargazer was a lot of work, and I was still feeling tired from it.

A few months later, when Rebecca revealed the 2020 Block-of-the-Month, Solstice, I decided that yes, I was going to do another one. Rebecca's quilts are never easy, but they're super interesting and unique. I certainly don't have another quilt like Solstice in my collection.

After 8 months of block making, I finally got ready to assemble Solstice.

Solstice wasn't ...

A Pink Postage Plus Quilt Finish from Dizzy Quilts

My husband owns an old classic car - a 1968 Dodge Coronet which he just loves. He is constantly tinkering with it, fixing this and that and to help him, he's good friends with a mechanic. This friend has spent a lot of time on the car and during one of his visits, hubby discovered that his wife is a crafter and a huge fan of the colour pink. So to thank them, he asked me to make her a quilt.

I was already planning to revisit the Postage Plus quilt pattern from the book Modern Plus Sign Quilts by ...

The Plan B X & Plus Quilt Top from Jan's Quilts

Now to decide on the quilt back.
