All Slow from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's true I didn't think I would be blogging today, but here I am. You know me...such a blabbermouth. After today, I am going to take a couple of days off. The carpet installation is set for tomorrow. We've been getting little reminder emails and texts from the crew that will be here to do it. All I know is that it will be nice to have things put back where they belong. New soft carpet on bare feet will be nice too.

My energy all went to slow-stitching yesterday. I'm ...

Crumby Stars, Counted Cross Stitch and Mending... from The Cozy Quilter

I'm doing really well working on some sort of knitting, stitching or sewing every day in January.  So far, I have only missed one day! I finished piecing my crumby star blocks this week and put all the blocks together.  The blocks are 12" square so at this stage, the quilt top was 36 by 28".  I want it to be a wee bit bigger so I will add 3.5" borders all around using the background material.  I am not sure of what I will use for backing yet...maybe some flannel.  I will be quilting this one ...

Sewing and Thinking about Sewing from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was way too early when I awakened this morning. Right away, my brain went to work thinking of everything under the sun...both important and not...and my night of sleep was over. This often happens when we're anticipating something new or big or uncertain or exciting or whatever. Anything different, and my brain becomes a noisy place. Of course, we're thinking about our carpet installation on Monday. There is still a little bit of prep work to do. Also this morning I was thinking about our upcoming trip, beginning in March. This ...

Slow Sunday Stitching ~ Flea Market Flowers Progress from Life in the Scrapatch

Today I did a little

(very little if the truth be told)

slow stitching

while I was watching the NFL Footbal Playoff Games

with Mr. Scrapatch and one of our sons.

The games were interesting so my hands were idle much of the time.

I did make some progress on the first large flower motif

in the upper left hand corner of the grid.

I am playing with the colors that are given in the pattern.

This is my first cross stitch project for 2024

and I will be working on it for some time,

Flea Market Flowers ~ Started Here ...

Sewing Day with Friends from The Cozy Quilter

Before the pandemic, I used to invite a few friends over for a sewing day several times a year.  Today, three friends came here for a sewing/embroidery/knitting/cross stitch day.  It's fun to sit and chat while we work on our projects.  I made everyone basket block pincushions as a souvenir of our day together.

I spent some time this past week getting my main sewing project ready.  Last year, one of my Rainbow Scrap Projects was four 6.5" crumb blocks for each of 12 colours. I have been thinking about how I will use these ...

Snow, Sew, and Slow Day from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We're in a warming trend this morning. It was 10°F when we went to bed last night. This morning, we awakened to a balmy 12°F. It isn't much of a change, but we'll take it. Sleet fell almost all day yesterday. It was so dry and windy that it mostly just blew around, not really adding any depth to the snow already on the ground. We have about two inches.

Today's forecast calls for a "wintry" mix (shouldn't that be "wintery"?), and a possibility of freezing rain on Tuesday ...

Progress on Several Fronts from The Cozy Quilter

I managed to do some knitting or sewing or cross stitching every day this week!  My Gross Morne scarf is now 1 foot (31 cm) long.  I have decided to include the measurement each time I show it as it is hard to tell from the photo alone if I have made any progress.  I still have a ways to go on this project!

I made my husband and my daughter pillowcases for Christmas but ran out of time to make one for myself so I did that this week.  The two main fabrics were purchased in the East Coast ...

Stitching Everyday! from The Cozy Quilter

Kathy, our Slow Sunday Stitching organizer and cheerleader, keeps a journal/calendar where she documents what she sews/knits etc.  each day.  I decided I would track my stitching activities each day this year on a wall calendar which I will keep in my sewing room. So far, I have stitched and/or knitted every day this year!  We will see how this goes.  I don't have a goal of how many days each week I want to stitch--I'm just going to track my activities.

I added more stitches to my counted cross stitch Christmas project.  This will ...

Last Post of 2023 from The Cozy Quilter

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and some time to relax this past week once the festivities were over.  I have managed to do a bit of knitting this week as well as some un-sewing (more on that later in this post!).  During the month of December, I worked on knitting a new hat for my husband whenever he was out or otherwise occupied.  Despite my best efforts, I did not get it done in time and he ended up unwrapping an unfinished gift.  He was surprised and pleased with my gift to him, which makes it all worthwhile ...

Merry Christmas! from The Cozy Quilter

Good Morning!  Finn and our daughter arrived last night for the holidays so the festivities can begin now!  I did a bit of cross stitch on my Christmas project.  The wreath is getting there!  I hope to have more time to work on this after Christmas Day!

I have been sewing a fair bit this past week, finishing off gifts for friends and family.  While I can't show you pictures of my projects yet, here is evidence that the sewing machine has not been idle.  I use a make up brush to clean my machine--lots of fluff!  My sewing ...

Christmas Cross Stitch and My Scarf in Progress from The Cozy Quilter

I finished off the centre snowflake and started the wreath above it this week in my Christmas cross stitch project.  This pattern is called "Invierno" from Satsuma Street. It is made up of nine motifs with a purple frame around each one.  I have a ways to go but this will be my relaxing slow stitching project over the next few weeks.  I will have it framed to hang up before next Christmas.

I've added several rows of knitting to my scarf.  I expect that it won't be done for this winter!  Good thing I have other scarves ...

'Tis the Season of Secret Projects from The Cozy Quilter

Last weekend, we went to visit our daughter and Finn.  On the way there and back, I hand stitched the binding on two quilts, the nautical themed comfort quilt I showed last week and this Whistlestop quilt.  I am very happy to have finished this quilt!  I have two more lap quilts pin basted, ready for quilting but they will have to wait until after the holidays for I am in the midst of making gifts that cannot be shown on my blog until after Christmas.

I did a bit of knitting most days this past week.  My scarf is ...

My Second November Quilting Retreat from The Cozy Quilter

Christine and I attended the annual November Crafter's retreat at Camp Kintail this past weekend.  We both love these weekends away to get lots done on our current and new projects.  I just noticed that a lot of my projects are green in this post...  I made this I Spy HRT quilt top at the Oxford Guild retreat early in November and managed to get it quilted and bound at the retreat.  I finished off the hand stitching on the binding at home this week.

I found this fun green and white striped fabric in my stash for the ...

Architecture Class, Borders, Sunflowers, Christmas Bazaar and Knitting from The Cozy Quilter

Last Saturday, I took a zoom class with David Owen Hastings.  For the project, we were to each choose a picture of a building or structure to inspire our quilts. My husband and I visited Dunnottar Castle in Scotland a few years ago and I took lots of pictures there. The castle is mostly a ruin and my picture was of the end wall of the chapel.  We then used some paper frames to zero in on a particular part of our picture,  drew a pattern and made the quilt using three shades of solid fabrics and a pop of ...

Guild Retreat Report from The Cozy Quilter

This past weekend, my friend Christine and I went to the semi-annual Oxford Guild Quilt Retreat in Stratford.  We both were very productive at the retreat--sewing morning, noon and night with breaks for meals and sleeping only! This is why there was no blogpost here this past weekend.   I brought lots of projects with me--heaven forbid I run out of things to sew!

I made a couple of Christmas gifts, one of which I can show here now.  This little wall hanging is for my MIL for her room in the nursing home where she lives.  She loves Christmas and ...

Fall Back from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends! Did you remember to fall back? I know the time change is hard on some folks. It has never bothered me, but I'll admit to preferring the falling back time to the springing forward time. Getting an extra hour to sew is never a bad idea.

It was a lazy day for us yesterday. We didn't even get dressed until around lunch time. I spent the morning working on my slow-stitching.

When it was time to stop, I moved my hoop to the right. That's where I'll pick it up this morning ...
