Monday Motivation: Don’t Quit from Patchwork Sampler Blog

don't quit quote

Recently I read this Wesley Snipes quote and something clicked–don’t quit. Not that I’m a quitter, but I tend to get bogged down in a million projects.

Since I’ve got so many things going, it seems like I never get anything done. I noticed that my husband, Jim and I go about our daily tasks a little differently. Typically I work on a project for a set time, for example, 15 minutes or an hour, but Jim works until the job is done. Even though we spend about the same amount of time, it seems that ...

Monday Motivation: Sewing Room Cleaning Part 2 from Patchwork Sampler Blog

spring cleaning quote

My quest for having a tidy sewing room is never-ending. However, in Sewing Room Cleaning Part 2, I have a little progress to report.

My ironing board is clear! This makes me so happy. If I had a quilt top to press, there would be room to do it! I have a wool pressing mat on top of the big board. I like the wool mat, but I still use a white bath towel on top of it. The towel has a little bit of nap that holds the fabric in place and has a little bit of give so ...

Monday Motivation: Spring Cleaning Part 1 from Patchwork Sampler Blog

Peter Walsh quote

If you are anything like me, your sewing room could use a little spring cleaning. I spent many hours in this room over the long Wisconsin winter and the clutter is a little out of hand. I will be gone much of April and won’t have a lot of time to sew which makes it the perfect time to tidy up a bit. Today is spring cleaning part 1.

My sewing room is a decent size, but I have way too much stuff in here. This is my ironing center. My big board sits on top of two cube ...

How to Organize Your Sewing Room on a Budget (or in a Tight Space!) from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

Wouldn’t it be nice if we all had large quilting studios with plenty of space for cutting, designing, ironing, fabric storage, and multiple sewing machines? Yes, that would be ideal, but it just isn’t the reality for most of us. The truth is, many sewists are squeezing their hobby into tight spaces and we’re here to help you fit everything you love about quilting into whatever space you have to make creating a pleasure again.

Back to Basics

When you think about it, all you really need to sew is a place to set your machine and ...

A Blessing And A Curse from Wedding Dress Blue

About two-and-one-half years ago my sewing room got a major facelift in the form of a cutting table.  YAY!  So many years of cutting on the floor were over.

But, the curse part is that it created space to shove stuff.  A LOT of stuff.

DSC01946

So, it all came out.

A really big pile went to live elsewhere.

The batting pieces were even made into Franken-batting and given a storage space.

And it is all back.

The top of the table is still a bit of a mess, but that can wait until tomorrow…

Lessons Learned from Quilt Paint Create

I’ve been sorting through the sewing room and reorganizing. It’s a time consuming process. I went into it knowing I have too much stuff and it isn’t well organized, but other lessons emerged from the debris.
I don’t play enough.
I’ve posted about that several times over the years. Why is it so hard to make time for creative play? I get too caught up in my list and finishing the things on my list. I need to knock it off.
I have small collections of “things I want to try” stashed everywhere, and none ...

KonMari Your Stash! How to fold your entire stash … fat quarters, yards, garment fabric & more … from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

Last year we released two videos on how I fold and organize my fabric stash. You loved it, but many of you wanted to just see the folding.

So I’ve recreated a supercut of both videos, that gets right down to how to fold your fabric so it can be stored vertically so you can see everything you have at a glance, and can fit the most fabric in possible in your space.

With this method I am easily able to fit 12.5 yards in basket the size of a shoe box. Plus everything looks neat, tidy and ...

Around The Sewing Room from Quilt Paint Create

All sorts of things going on in the sewing room. I don’t know that so much activity does me any favors, but so it goes.
I finished embroidering bear block #3 and started #4. I’ll hold off on pictures until I start setting the blocks together.
At Art Quilt Group Tuesday we made these folded fabric ornaments.
folded starMy stitching was off and a few points turned out wonky, but it was a first attempt. I think it’s begging for paint and hope to play with that this weekend.
I started organizing my fabric. I store fabric EVERYWHERE ...
