August 2020 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

I don’t know about everyone else, but I’ve had to work to find inspiration and motivation this year. Looking online is not the same as seeing quilts and other projects in person. I don’t see that changing this year, at least not where I live. New times call for new ways.
That said, I finished a couple projects last month and can move on to other things.
The Short List categories are UFO, garment, original design, stitchery, framing, charity and other. I’ve used some form of this system for 6 years to keep me focused. I ...

Stash Report July 26, 2020 from Quilt Paint Create

No fabric out this week.
I traveled to Zinck’s yesterday to buy clothing fabric. It’s a far enough drive to only make that trip once or twice a year. I had to make it count.
fashion fabric 72520I have plans for most of it, although it will take a while to sew it all up.
Also, a friend gave me a box of fashion fabric. She decided she wasn’t going to sew clothes anymore. I looked through it to see what was there, but didn’t tally up the yardage. I’ll save that for another time.
I managed ...

UFO update from Granny Maud's Girl

I have not yet shared my May UFO because it is away being long-arm quilted. May’s UFO, a sampler quilt, was such a large project that I set myself a far more modest goal for June: finish a top that I bought the fabric for and cut out in January 2018. Since then, it has been variously draped over my dressmaker’s dummy, folded in a basket or on the desk in my sewing room. Since I finished it last month, it has been on a coathanger in my sewing room.

The top is a repeat of a Liberty ...

July 2020 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

It’s time for another list. I’m not sure where my time went in June. It must have gone towards finishing the penguins.
The Short List categories are UFO, garment, original design, stitchery, charity and other. I’ve used some form of this system for over 5 years to help keep me focused. I change the categories as my goals and interests change.
UFO – The plan for Birds In The Branches changed from machine to hand applique. The stitching will take a while.

Garment – I stuck with the third pattern choice, the Life Sew Savory Fitted Tee. I’ll ...

Sunday Stash June 28, 2020 from Quilt Paint Create

No change in the numbers, but there will be fabric out next week.
SS yellow
I’ve been all over the place, working on four different projects this week: the Brazilian embroidery, hand applique, a shirt and the framing project. I finished the framing (last post) and will finish the shirt and the Brazilian this week.
One sewing and one hand work project is the best mix for me with the day job. After that it gets a little dicey.
The shirt will be a quick sew. Maybe I’ll even finish it today.

The June 2020 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

Another month, another list.
I finished two projects in May, A Walk in the Woods and the Hope picture. The rain in May kept me inside a lot. We’ll see if creative projects take a backseat to yard work this month.
The Short List categories are UFO, garment, original design, stitchery, charity and other. I’ve used some form of this system for over 5 years to help keep me focused. I change the categories as my goals and interests change.
UFO – I pulled out a project in the early stages. I believe the pattern is called Birds In ...

May 2020 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

It’s hard to believe it’s time for a new list. I’m hoping the weather will improve and get me out of the house more, but you never know about May. It could be warm, but it could be wet and cool. As long as the sun shines I’m happy.
I finished the UFO, Bears With Borders, in April.
The Short List categories are UFO, garment, original design, stitchery, charity and other. I’ve used some form of this system for over 5 years to help keep me focused. I change the categories as my goals and ...

April 2020 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

It’s a new quarter and time for new quarterly and semi-annual goals. I had to make some adjustments to April’s goals because I don’t have supplies for some projects and don’t know when I can get them. I just shifted projects forward to the next quarter and picked other goals. I would have picked those projects eventually, and the order isn’t that important. I didn’t finish anything last month but made good progress on three projects.
The Short List categories are UFO, garment, original design, stitchery, charity and other. I’ve used some form ...

Sunday Stash February 23, 2020 from Quilt Paint Create

No fabric in this week. I finished the Vogue 8253 shirt for 1.25 yards out.
vogue shirtThis was a fun garment to sew. I bought the fabric at the thrift a couple years ago. It has the feel of polyester, but it held a press, so I’m thinking there’s some rayon in it. It was a dream to sew. I thought it might “grow” as I stitched because of the texture, but it didn’t.
I added width to the back and shortened it. I probably could have gotten away without the back adjustment because the fabric had ...

One In Every Crowd from Quilt Paint Create

There’s been a lot of life going on here.
Most of my sewing time this week went toward the Vogue shirt. I hope to finish it tomorrow. I’ve enjoyed sewing that shirt more than anything else I’ve made in a long time. It felt good to have a fun project.
I also had Needlearts Guild this week with Show and Tell of projects in process. There are some really lovely projects in the works. That group is so talented.
Today was the book sale at the library. I only picked up one quilt book, although I did ...

February 2020 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

Not much progress on the list last month. Many projects moved forward, but nothing was finished. I’ll see a few finishes this month.
The Short List categories are UFO, garment, original design and stitchery. I’ve used some form of this system for over 5 years to help keep me focused. I change the categories as my goals and interests change.
UFO – All the frames are embroidered on the Bear quilt. It’s waiting its turn in line.

January 2020 Short List and Q1 Goals from Quilt Paint Create

Happy New Year!
The Short List got a makeover for the new year. The categories now align with my quarterly goals instead of the more random categories of something old, something new, a handwork project, and creative play/design. I’ve used this system for over 5 years and think this format is more focused. As always, I can change the categories if my goals or interests change.
UFO – Ten block frames down, two to embroider on the Bear quilt.bears 1 to 10Garment – Very Easy Vogue 8253. I bought green fabric, but I also have a deep pink from the thrift that ...

Looking Back, Looking Forward from Quilt Paint Create

It’s that time of year when you see a lot of 2019 recaps and 2020 plans. I’ve been thinking about 2020 for a few weeks now, keeping in mind where I am and where I want to be.
This wasn’t one of my more productive sewing years. A leg injury late in 2018 kept me out of the sewing room and focused on healing the first part of the year. I couldn’t move around well and stayed off my feet with the leg elevated after work each day. Eventually it healed and life went on.

Sunday Stash December 1, 2019 from Quilt Paint Create

No fabric out this week.
I purchased fabric to make the Vogue top. Considering all the sales this weekend, I believe I used incredible restraint.
Vogue pattern and fabricThe fabric is a rayon/poly gauze in a true green, although it doesn’t look it in the picture. The color is called “green pepper”. The pattern and fabric are in the “to be made” queue. No shoving it all in a drawer and forgetting about it. It will likely be an early 2020 project.

Sewing Clothes for Fall from Crafty Gemini

A change in temperature means an opportunity to sew a new wardrobe for myself! It may not snow here in North Central Florida but I still like to make some slightly warmer clothes for myself in the Fall/Winter.

Bullet Textured Liverpool Fabric- One of my favorite fabrics to use for making warmer clothes like jackets, cardigans, long sleeved tunics and even pencil skirts. Grab some here.

Jalie 3903 NICOLE sewing pattern: Love this pattern! You can make a shirt, tunic or dress length option. Pattern also has short or long sleeves and 3 different neckline finishes. Great staple to ...
