Sewcialites 2 – Block 21 Dapper from Want It, Need It, Quilt It!

The humble 9-patch snowball block The Sewcialites 2 sew-a-long is in full swing and there are only a few blocks to go. Today I am posting about my block, Dapper, a humble 9-patch snowball. For those that know me my motto is, “if is it not challenging then it is not worth doing” and this easy block is totally out of character for me. But is it? The snowball block in its simplicity can make a wonderful quilt using solids and prints, stripes, dots and especially fabrics that lend to fussy cutting. I think this block could be used to ...

Free Pattern Friday ~ Sewcialites 2 @ Fat Quarter Shop from Life in the Scrapatch

I have this basket of fabric tucked in my storage cubes to make a quilt.

It was for the original Sewcialites Quilt Along

and I saved the steps but did not sew the blocks at that time.

Now there is an ongoing Sewcialites 2.

This is a Fat Quarter Shop Quilt-Along

The second round of this free Fat Quarter Shop skill building quilt program

has been happening for 19 weeks:

Fat Quarter Shop Sewcialites 2 from Baby Boomer Quilting Bee

I brought out the BIG guns to flatten this little block - my tailor's clapper was just not going to work.  After steam pressing, I laid a few books on top and weighted them down with a heavy vintage iron.

Now caught up, I was able to take my time with Block #5, called the "Empower" Block designed by Carrie Nelson, the artist behind Miss Rosie's Quilt Patterns.   The Fat Quarter Shop is hosting the Sewcialites Quilt Along with the help of several designers.

I am making the 6" block versions, using the Nova Collection, by  Basic Grey, Moda ...

Sewcialites Catch Up!!! from Fostering Others

Last year I challenged the ladies in my guild to help keep me accountable to finish this 36 week plus long quilt along.  Besides a paper piecing program, my longest ever! Well, way back in September we started, and by block 12, I was distracted. Here in April, I put myself back on the rocker!

I was able to finish block 24, 26, 27, and 28 all in the last week.

Now I am challenging myself to get 8 blocks done in May! That will leave me 9 blocks to catch up, with 5 weeks left in the sew along ...

Sewcialites-Block 19 from Moda Lissa

Happy Valentine’s Day/Weekend/Sewcialites Friday

Thank you for joining me on my day for SEWCIALITES.

I am making my version using Moda’s Bella Solids and I thought pink was the perfect color for the valentines week.

I have started putting my blocks together. This will be one quarter of the quilt. Once it is complete it will be a big sawtooth star.

I had mentioned in one of of my PROGRESS REPORTS posts that I knew how I wanted to quilt this one. The crew at Moda recently made a quilt for someone retiring and I wanted ...

Sewcialites Block 1 from Goer

Fat Quarter Shop is currently hosting the Sewcialites quilt along. With 3", 6" and 9" size options, there are 36 blocks being released one week at a time on the Jolly Jabber blog. One block a week on top of my other sewing sounded like a lot, but I dove in on week one and made this 3" block.

I didn't really have a plan other than to make a few blocks, but I haven't made a second one yet. Someone recommended that I use this block as a rug in the dollhouse we are (very slowly) building ...

Sewcialites QAL ~ Coming in September from Life in the Scrapatch

My Preliminary Fabric Selection
for a new free quilt along coming in September:

@

This is the design and setting.

I am planning to sew the largest size.

Also, I may use my scraps to make the smallest blocks and a matching pillow.

The black and white print is my planned background fabric.
I will be adding solid white fabric in some blocks, as I think needed.

Or you may sew from your stash, as I am planning
or

There is a fun group ...
