I picked up more quilts and batting from Quilts for Kids on Saturday.
I stopped by the big box store and picked up some yarn I didn't need but I wanted it anyway.
My next Charming quilt is coming along slowly. Winter weather may have slowed me down. What have you been up to?
Yes I know, another new project... but (!) this one is all about using my scraps, what's not to love. And the instructions come in German for the Ravenbrook Scrap Quilt Along.
The first 3 blocks are made of rectangles and I used only scraps to make those (I can't really say I have made a dent in my scrap basket either actually...)
I picked green as the focus colour for the blocks since this is the January colour for the Rainbow Scraps Challenge organised by Angela I joined the challenge years ago but hadn't participated in recent ...

These pinwheels are really big. Each of those pinwheel blocks measures 16". I had to get creative with the layout to make it look way more complicated than it is. I will add some borders and they will be ready for ... read more
These are the perfect project if you have loads of scraps and only a little bit of time to sew. You just sew a couple bricks, or a couple blocks and set it aside. It is also a good one for leaders and enders. both of these are made with 2.5" by 4.5" bricks. I use a 4.5" by 4.5" square as the center of each block. These will both finish around 36" by 36".
I also pieced this super scrappy quilt for Annapolis Quilts for Kids.
All that's left is the binding. That may have to wait until next year. I'm so happy I used the fan quilting motif. I think it is perfect for this quilt.
I finished the quilt top with a 3" wide border. Now to get it quilted.
I loaded it on the frame.
And started quilting. I decided to use a traditional pattern. This is Kristin's Easy Baptist Fan from Urban Elementz. I didn't have a fan design I really like in my collection so I bought this one for this quilt. I'm sure I will use it again so it was a worthy investment.
When we moved and downsized, I passed on a lot of my scraps to friends. It wasn't until I was thinking of designing a scrappy quilt that I missed them...just slightly. Like me, if you don't have scraps, fat quarters will work just as well. Mix it up with your yardage for a truly scrappy feel. Mix in different values, add an accent color, or just mix all the colors together. This is truly a scrapbuster (my favorite!)
All you need to know for this quilt is how to make a four patch. No triangles. No weird ...
