PQ 12. 6 Ab Intra challenge from Sew Sunshine

So Project Quilting 12.6 challenge is Ab Intra -Latin for 'from within'.  Once again I wanted to combine scraps for #nationalquiltingmonth #sewthescrapoutofmarch all month long. I thought of a couple things I could do but came back to starting with my favorite color combo black and white...and use prints I had in my scrap pile. The center sort of represents me and then building bits around is kind of like building on experiences. Using scraps was perfect for that because you never know what you will run into.

I got out some cardboard and did some measurements to ...

Pool of Stars... from Sew Sunshine

"Pool of stars" updated
washed and crinkly

"Pool of Stars"  Kona pool that is...get it?  and the big corner bits from my jar of scraps. Kona pool is one of my favorite colors on the Kona card. Just working with all the multi colored bits proves that pool goes with everything.  I just love it.

45" x 50" approx
Stash fabrics
Machine straightline quilting

All the larger bits from my jar after I sorted them. I used 110 pool 5" squares and  needed 220 bits. Not a problem.

Any size and any shape works

A few bigger scraps on ...

Notorious from Becca's Crazy Projects

I finally took the plunge and started quilting this little piece. This was inspired by a cross stitch design created by Prudence Kitch. If you are a cross-stitcher you should check out their snarky little darlings. Get your own copy of Prudence Kitch - Notorious on Etsy. If you want to see some of my progress shots check out this post
The background is quilted with this flower motif.
The dress is quilted with a variegated thread to make these swirls.
I added some detail to the lily.
The swirls make their way up the bodice.
Nothing fancy for the gavel ...

Prudence Dissents from Becca's Crazy Projects

Blogger still hasn't gotten their crap together with this new tool. Geez. When the feedback form doesn't work you know they've got their best people working on the upgrade.
Back to quilting. This past weekend I got back to work on this fun little quilt. You can read more about this project in my first post about Prudence. Admittedly, I got better at putting the units together as I went along.
I got to this point and realized I needed to take another look at the lily. I sat down with Electric Quilt but just couldn't ...

Prudence Dissents from Becca's Crazy Projects

For those of you who may get your knickers in a knot over something you perceive as political, you can skip this one. If you believe women's rights are human rights, you can stick around to see what this is about.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg served 27 years on the Supreme Court of the United States. She changed the world both as a litigator before the Supreme Court and as a Justice on the Court. She argued six gender discrimination cases before the Supreme Court between 1973 and 1976, winning five. My life as a mother, wife, and service-member ...

Postage Stamp Swap from Becca's Crazy Projects

When I heard Mary (@mary_thecuriousquilter) was hosting a charm square swap I jumped in with both feet and my considerable collection of 2.5" squares of fabric. I've had some really good luck and some really bad luck with swaps in the past. I went into this one with high hopes and I was not disappointed.

The first step, for me, was sorting through my collection of 2.5" squares. I have been cutting these little pieces of fun for quite a while now. This is what the collection looked like before I started sorting.

This is what it ...

Scrappy Quarter Cabin from Becca's Crazy Projects

Part 4: the scrappy finish.

I planned on trimming this quilt last week but didn't get around to it until Saturday. I cut my borders at 2.5" then trimmed them down after quilting. This helps me keep the border consistent all the way around after quilting.
I pulled out a bunch of 2.5" strips to make a scrappy binding. Scrappy bindings are generally my favorite and this was no different.
Such a happy scrappy binding! I even added a few more pieces before I was done.
I do love some swirls!
I finished the binding by machine ...

Scrappy Quarter Cabin from Becca's Crazy Projects

Part 3

Some projects take longer than others. This was part of the cost of creating this quilt. Little scraps and strips all over my sewing side-table. Once I had all my blocks I put these scraps back in the bins for another day.
Another cost was the leftovers. These are the pieces too small to sew into larger pieces. My trimmings are always small like this. These will be added to my pet bed donation trash-bag for the next time I get to give those snips away to the gentle souls who make pet beds for local shelters.
The ...

Postage Stamp Quilt Swap from Becca's Crazy Projects

I've been trimming some of my smaller scraps into 2.5" squares for a while now. Here is my collection of little squares. I learned about a charm square swap hosted by the Curious Quilter on Instagram. This is often where I learn about all sorts of fun swaps.
Here is the empty space left behind after I sorted out several stacks to swap. I am hoping to get back quite a collection of new fabrics.
Here are my swap stacks. Two identical sets (left top and middle), three unique sets (right top, middle and bottom), and two for ...

Scrappy Quarter Cabin from Becca's Crazy Projects

Part 2
I sat down to this mess on Saturday morning to make some more blocks for my Scrappy Quarter Cabin quilt.
I also stitched up some binding for my quilt Star Struck. You can't see the binding in this photo but I can assure you it is attached. I wanted to share another closeup look at the quilting on this one.
The pile of trimmings for this one is getting quite large.
I played with block placement and flipped some around a little. I really like how this one is working up. Still so much to do. I ...

Scrappy Quarter Cabin from Becca's Crazy Projects

Friday I pulled this stack of fabric from the shelves of my fabric collection. These will be the the beginning of my Scrappy Quarter Cabin using the free and fun tutorial by Christina Cameli. You should check it out.
The first step was to cut some of those fabrics into 5" squares. I also grabbed some from my ridiculously tall stack of 5" squares to add some more variety. Pull in the three bins full of scraps and I was off and running on Saturday morning.
I started sewing strips and crumb strips to the blocks and by lunch on ...

Mid month progress.... from Stitchin' Therapy

July is here....and we are all so hot!  Our common remark is, you can wear the air here.  At least the sun is shining.  Right?

Little by little I worked on the batik project.  One or two rows joined every few days and finally it is a top.  Now I see a few spots I should have moved.  Isn't that the way it goes?  But for now it is what it is.  It is just intended for a sofa throw.  I need to order some backing fabric and then it can get quilted.

In between the joining the ...

Dreams Mini-Quilt from Becca's Crazy Projects

Several years ago I used an embroidered alphabet from Urban Threads Embroidery to create a min-quilt for a friend. We share a dark view of the world and joke that now that we are old ladies (neither claims to be a lady, to be sure) all our dreams are dead. I wanted to make sure she remembered me always so I made her a mini-quilt similar to what you see above.
She asked me to make another one for another friend of hers and I said yes. I used the alphabet to recreate the design because I didn't know ...

Charity Quilting from Becca's Crazy Projects

Blogger has made some changes to the blog drafting tool and I'm trying to give it a go before it becomes the standard. It appears the intent was to make the tool easier to use for those writing their posts on mobile devices. I draft my posts using my desktop computer. I can type faster, pull content faster, and generally get from idea to blog post faster on my desktop than I can with my mobile device. I've been blogging either with a desktop of laptop for almost seven years. Change is hard. I just wish the new ...

Odds and Ends from Becca's Crazy Projects

I have been in a sort of creative slump. I'm having difficulty getting motivated to embark on some new sewing adventure. That doesn't mean I'm not creating, I don't think that is possible. I just haven't found a new project I'm really excited about.

I did finish my Helix Hat. It isn't shaped like the pattern because I wasn't paying attention when I read the pattern. It was a good project, though, and I will likely make another.
Sometimes I think my motivational block is caused by some of the clutter in ...

Knitting Up Leftovers from Becca's Crazy Projects

I learned about the Helix Hat pattern on Instagram. Someone had made one and I was intrigued. I needed an easy to take along project and hats always fit the bill. I cast on and got stitching.
I grabbed some of my leftovers and just kept going. This is a very scrappy project. Perfect for using up those worsted weight leftovers. I failed to follow the instructions so my hat is going to be much pointier than the pattern intended, but I'm going to keep going with it. As my son would say "One's head can never be ...

Quilting this little quilt from Quilting Lots Moore Designs

Made this little one completely out of my leftovers from another baby quilt.  It will be a donation quilt for the neonatal unit in one of our hospitals...not sure which one to send it to yet.  Hoping to get another couple done before I send it off,  It's good to be able to finish something quickly.

Managed to get some practice with my ruler foot on my domestic machine.  Quite different action compared to my long arm machine I had to let go.  Enjoying learning though, and the Janome 9450QCP is such a lovely machine to quilt with ...
