Scrap Quilt Secrets VS. Strip Quilt Secrets from Butterfly Threads

My first book, SCRAP QUILT SECRETS was developed from the questions I kept hearing during my teaching trips and workshops. I was constantly asked about my design process, and how I went about selecting my designs, fabrics and scraps to make the quilts that seem to all have my signature look. Some folks describe my style as cozy, or cheerful, or a variety of other kind compliments. But the bottom line was, the quilters I met wanted to know how I went from scrap basket to finished quilt.

So I wrote a book. That book is one I'm very ...

Fifth Friday Fun Day at Tiny Stitches from Butterfly Threads

I had the joy of teaching the Fifth Friday Fun Day at Tiny Stitches last Friday. We were making this quilt and learning all about triangles. Including the good, the bad and the perfect points every time!

We were using this pattern from my book Scrap Quilt Secrets. We were sewing both this version and the version that uses only the large triangles that I prepared for the workshop. (shown in first photo)

It was a great day of sewing and fun. I loved seeing all of the different fabrics and colors become triangles, then rows of triangles, then quilts ...

Multiplicity on Monday from Butterfly Threads

I saw a Ted talk about JOY on Facebook this week and I liked it so much that I shared it. I've gotten some interesting and fun comments in response to it. But my big take away from the idea of this video is one word that stuck with me... Multiplicity. It basically means what it sounds like. It's the repetition or collection of many like things. Think- sprinkles, confetti, and naturally quilts! I totally understand why I like quilts with lots of fabrics cut into lots of pieces. Multiplicity is the reason. I'm pretty sure I ...

Building Houses in Aiken, SC from Butterfly Threads

I had full house of quilters at the Carolina Pine Quilters meeting on Monday night. I love how they have a wall of quilters from a featured quilter at their meetings. Doesn't it add a lovely backdrop to the room?

After the meeting I had the pleasure of staying at the home of the current president of the guild. Pat and her husband made me feel right at home! They were so kind and welcoming, I do hope I get a chance to visit them again!

Next to the room I stayed in, was Pat's sewing room. How ...

I'm off to South Carolina for a trunk show tonight and a workshop tomorrow! If' you're in the area I hope you'll join us. We're going to have fun!

Kelly is staying home with the animals while I'm away because the boys are off having fun riding roller coasters at Cedar Point with their dad.

We will all be back home in a few days, and then we are leaving again for Arizona! My niece is graduating and we thought we would take a peek at the Grand Canyon while we are there.

    I hope ...

Show and Tell from Butterfly Threads

My friend and co-worker at Tiny Stitches, Millie, made this adorable version of Citrus Squeeze for her grandson. She substituted Starwars fabrics in the quilt rather than the pink and oranges shown in my book Scrap Quilt Secrets. She quilted it on her longarm. How could a Starwars fan NOT love this quilt?

This is my super cute friend Karen who made this version of Pumpkins in the Patch as a halloween quilt. She moaned and groaned and complained the whole time but we laughed a lot too. I think she is finally happy with the result and I know ...

    Alabama bound... from Butterfly Threads

    Image 1
I will be visiting the quilters of Covington County Alabama tonight and spending the day with them tomorrow for a workshop. It's almost a 5 hour drive each way, so I'll be listening to a lot of books on CD!

In other news, I finished quilting another quilt on my new Amara last night and loved it! I did all free motion ruler work and would show a picture of it, but I'm not sure if this one is going to need to be a secret for a while. I HATE keeping secrets!! The good news is ...

Weekend in South Carolina from Butterfly Threads

I had a wonderful time with these lovely quilters in South Carolina this week. I visited them on Tuesday night and presented my Scrap Quilt Secrets trunk show.

On Saturday, I returned for a workshop day with them where we sewed lots of versions of Splash!
A quilt that I've made three times now and love every version.

The first version was made from my dad's shirts for my mom the first Christmas after he passed away.

The second version I made from batiks so I could have one for myself.

Then last week, I made this little ...

Magnolia Quilt Guild in Mississippi from Butterfly Threads

Last week I had the honor of visiting the Magnolia Quilt Guild in Mississippi. These lovely quilters were celebrating a special birthday in the history of their guild and they invited me to bring my Scrap Quilt Secrets trunk show as well as doing a fun day of workshops!

And when I mention that they were celebrating, I was quite impressed with how well they party. They had magnolia and quilt themed everything. Look at this cake! It was adorable and delicious!

They even treated me to a marvelous gift basket at the hotel. I was so surprised and delighted ...
