Hands2Help 2019 - Meet Guest Blogger Joanne! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

I'm so glad you're here!  It's time for another guest blogger and today I'm pleased to turn the blog over to Joanne!  Joanne has been involved with Hands2Help for many years now, and was actually the one to give me a push to feature the rectangle in my series of pre-H2H tutorials this year!  She has long been a lover of rectangles and is here to share more about them with us today - so without further ado, here she is!

Thank you Sarah for offering me the opportunity to be a guest blogger this ...

How to Piece a Scrap Overload Block from The Free Motion Quilting Project

Happy April Fool’s Day! It’s the first of April, which means it’s time for our newest block in the Friendship Quilt Along, which goes by the fitting name of the Scrap Overload Block.

Like last month’s Checkerboard Tiles quilt block, this one is very scrap heavy. You’ll need all the accumulated practice and skill building you picked up in March for taking on this one!

Click here to find the Scrap Overload quilt pattern. This block features lots and lots of little pieces this month with a really fun scrappy border.

Working with On Point ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem... Using Your Scraps for Good! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

I really missed doing a scrappy post on Wednesday last week, and I've got TONS of scrappy sewing that I've been doing, but today I want to challenge you with something special.

There is a group in New Zealand called Angels in Gumboots that has set a goal of making 100 quilts using these blocks to be given to the families of the victims of the horrible mass shooting in Christchurch this past weekend.

Angels in Gumboots are collecting 6.5" blocks with green hearts on a white background.  Currently they have all the info in ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem... A Disappearing Act! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

As you probably already know, I was fortunate enough to attend QuiltCon last week.  I signed up for a class called Dynamic Quilts with Solids, taught by Nydia Kehnle.  Considering how many solid scraps I have, you can guess that I was really excited!  We were instructed to bring about 125 7.5" squares, in at least 25 different colors.  Well, I went nuts, pulled everything I could cut a 7.5" square out of, without rhyme or reason, and showed up to class.

This is the class instructor, Nydia Kehnle, and one of her fabulous quilts!  We ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem... Progress and Inspiration! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Scraps just keep multiplying, don't they?  But I am making some progress - I got all my solid squares cut for QuiltCon (next week - hooray!!) and yesterday I put my scrappy string quilt on the frame!

I experimented with a new quilting design - sort of like a freeform freehand Baptist Fan.  It used a lot of bobbin thread, but it was fun to do and I think it's going to look wonderful when it's washed and dried! Binding will be done today - it's the first sunny day we've had in a week and the ...

Rockin' Rectangles Begins! Place Your Bet... from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Welcome to the very first week of the Rockin' Rectangles Quilt-Along!  Now, this is not your typical quilt-along.  Rather than working on one quilt design over the next six weeks, I will be sharing six tutorials for simple quilt designs that you may choose to use for the Hands2Help Comfort Quilt Challenge, which starts immediately after the quilt-along.  All the quilts fit into the theme of Rockin' Rectangles, involving rectangle shapes or rectangle-shaped blocks in their construction.  There being nothing new under the sun, these designs were inspired by beautiful quilts seen out and about, but the tutorials ...

I May Have a Scrap Problem... Making Progress! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

October is almost over - can you believe it?  But I have been (finally) doing some scrappy sewing, and I have progress to share!  Nathanael's annual quilt is a super-scrappy version of Good Night Irene...

This is slightly more than two-thirds of the blocks I will need to make, and I'll also have to make the outer ring that is mostly white with little green pyramids to finish off the outside of the stars.

And for inspiration, here's a similar quilt, not exactly the same but with a similar look.  This one is by Sandra of ...

I May Have a Scrap Problem... What's Your Favorite Scrap Block? from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

I started thinking about what to write today and realized that I really don't have much progress to show.  It's been a busy few weeks, and I've only had time for a little bit of scrappy sewing.  I did manage to get a dozen blocks made for Nathanael's quilt...

... and I tried a quick paper piecing sample (just to see if I could do it after I learned a neat trick)...

...but that's not much to show for a blogpost!  So I thought I'd share some fun blocks that I've been ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem... Dreaming of New Projects! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

This week I've been working on commission projects (mostly t-shirt quilts) and some things that needed to be finished for the quilt ministry, which has meant no time for sewing with my scraps.  I'm headed for a quilting retreat this weekend, though, and I'm bringing along a scrappy project - Nathanael's annual quilt - but that doesn't really help me for this blogpost!

But I have been dreaming of scrappy quilts this week, because I need to make a twin size quilt for the new bunk bed in the guest room.  Here are some of ...

I May Have a Scrap Problem... Making Headway, and Inspiration! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

I hope, if you're in the track of Hurricane Florence, you've made it to a safe place, AND that you have sufficient important supplies (fabric, thread, sewing machine, rotary cutter, etc.) to keep you occupied during the storm.  I have family on the east coast in NC and VA, so I'm definitely keeping an eye on the storm reports.  Stay safe, everyone!!!

I've also made some good progress on my scrap sewing this week!  Last week my Something Blue quilt was at this point...

...then late last week it went to this....

...and finally ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem... But I'm Working On It! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

It's been a crazy week, and while I've been working on my Scrap Attack tub, it's been slow work in between other things that needed to be done.  But it's not been a total waste of time...

I made this table runner and the pillow below from the scraps of the Tanya Whelan line I previewed for Free Spirit Fabrics over a year ago!  These will be offered at the grand opening of a friend's new home decor shop this weekend.

And I finished the turtle quilt - not my scrappy achievement, but definitely ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem... May Results and June Goals! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

June has finally arrived, with all the busy summer activities that keep us from sewing as much as we'd like, it seems!  But there's always time for scrap sewing, isn't there?  I'll have to admit that I didn't finish my May project - I've made it to the flimsy stage...

...but haven't been able to put enough time together to get it on the frame for quilting.  Hopefully before the end of June - I'm still considering this one of my scrappy goals for the month!

And today I drew my goal ...

I May Have a Scrap Problem... Got Charm Squares? from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Well, it has been quite a week, with the ending of this year's Hands2Help Challenge - and that means I've been too busy to work on my Wedge Play quilt (boo...)!  And this is the last Wednesday of the month, too.  So I'm probably not going to get it finished before June 1, but I'll definitely finish it before July 1!

I'm going to wait until next week to share my June goal for Scrap Attack, because honestly, I don't have time to think about it right now!  But I did think of ...

Hands2Help - How is a quilt pattern like comfort food? from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Welcome to another week of the Hands2Help Challenge, and another great guest blogger!  Joanne lives in Canada, and blogs at Quilts by Joanne.  She is a prolific scrap quilter, and has a way with rectangles, which she will share with you now - so I turn the blog over to her....

*&*&*&*&*&*&*

This year's Hands2Help Charity quilt drive will soon be coming to a close. The guest bloggers have shown some terrific ideas for quilts that anyone can make and that will provide comfort to those in need. In my post today I would like to share two ideas ...

Can I Get a Whoop Whoop? Mermaid in the Middle! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

It's Friday again - I hope it's a little bit dryer where you are, we've had rain most of the week! - and that means it's time for us to get our whoop whoop on!  Are you ready?  Let's get started!

*&*&*&*&*&*&*

When I saw Jamie's tutorial for the "Have Faith" block, I knew I needed to make a scrappy version - so here's "Mermaid In The Middle"!  This quilt was made using fifty ten inch squares and 25 random fat quarters, so it made a good dent in my scrap stash - woohoo!!

Here's ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem... HST Progress! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

I have been having so. much. fun. this week!  After finishing my commission quilt, I have time to play with my HSTs and boy have I been playing!

I started out with these HSTs that needed trimming...

...and started creating sweet little blocks for pincushions!  I'll probably hand quilt these in the car while we're driving to the beach later this week.  Hopefully I'll get some more made before we leave!

Then I grabbed some blue HSTs that were bonus blocks from Lilli's annual quilt a few months ago.  I knew what I wanted ...

Make-A-List Monday - Getting Ready for Vacay! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Oh my goodness, where did last week go?  It seems like I just blinked, and it's Monday again!  But this week holds the last few days before vacation, so I'm ok with it going quickly...

Let's take a look and see how last week's list went....

1.  Piece the new commission quilt.
Woohoo!  It's not only pieced, but it's quilted, bound, washed, and photographed!  I am so happy to have this finished early!  Here's a sneak peek - more on Friday!

2.  Finish this Sunday's blogpost.
Done!  And if you didn ...

Scrumptious Scraps Quilt-Along - The Ever-Faithful 4-Patch! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

It's that time again - time for another great scrap quilt tutorial, simple and quick enough for charity quilts.  After all, the idea is to inspire you to make quilts for this year's Hands2Help Charity Quilt Challenge, right?  I hop you're been enjoying the quilts we've shared so far - today's is one of my favorites, and a great scrap buster!  Enjoy the tutorial, and be sure to hang on until the end, when I'll announce the winner of last week's scrappy giveaway - and since I still have an over-abundance of scraps, there ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem... A Little Progress, and Inspiration! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Well, this week did not go AT ALL like I thought it would!  I had great plans to work on my Gypsy Wife blocks, but a short-deadline project came up that threw that out the window.  So I'm embracing the change, and sharing some other things this week!

First of all, I went to a trunk show with the fabulous Jen Kingwell last Thursday night and oh my gosh is that girl a great scrap quilter!  I've really been enjoying my experiences with Long Time Gone, Gypsy Wife, and My Small World, but I got to ...
