Tourists in Chattenooga and Log Cabin Quilt from Life as a Quilter -- Julia Graber

Life ...
Paul checks the corn to see when it will be ready to harvest.

We had a weekend trip to Chattenooga and visited Rock City.

It was a beautiful walk through the rock garden between boulders and greenery.

We also visited Ruby Falls in an underground cavern.

The Tennessee Aquarium was another tourist attraction for us.

I usually only take pictures of souvenirs; but this time ....

Rock City by Banyan Batiks from Daphne Greig

Spotted at my local Quilt Shop, Calico Cupboard, last week when I was buying some fabric for a small quilt.

A great runner using Banyan Batiks Rock City collection.

The pattern is Twist and Turn by Designs to Share With You.

Check out the other colourways for this fabric collection here.

Quilting a holiday stocking using Rock City batik border print from Quilt Social

The gift making season is upon us! It seems to come along quicker every year.

This week I created two items that can be made in time for the gift giving season, including a large checkerboard star quilted cushion cover. In yesterday post I added wide strips of Rock City batiks to the back of a quilted table runner.

A quick gift to make usually involves less piecing than the star blocks so I saved this item until last – a quilted stocking!

Making a reversible table runner using Banyan Batiks Rock City from Quilt Social

I have enjoyed creating designs with Rock City fabrics by Banyan Batiks this week that are coming to quilt stores this month. In yesterday’s post, I used some sterling colorway fat quarters to create checkerboard star quilt blocks. Today I’ll make the blocks into a reversible quilted table runner.

To make my runner I joined the blocks side by side and then decided to add a border.
You could also choose to make one more block and set them in pairs to make a 16 square table topper or a cushion front.

Smaller checkerboard stars sparkle as a quilted table runner from Quilt Social

Whether it’s a season for gift giving or not, quilters always seem to have a stash of irresistible fat quarters on hand. The newest line of Banyan Batiks comes out this month, Rock City, and is definitely a line of fabrics you want to use in your creations!

In yesterday’s post I finished making a checkerboard star quilted cushion cover. I created the cushion by making one large pieced checkerboard star block. Today I’ll use the same block, but smaller, to create a quilted table runner. The runner finishes at approximately 12″ wide x 24″ long.

Rock City batiks rock the back of the quilted cushion! from Quilt Social

Making a cushion cover is a quick gift to give or a simple way to add something handmade to your decor. In yesterday’s post we made the quarter star blocks with some fat quarters of the new Rock City batik line coming to quilt stores this month.

Before we put the checkerboard star block together I wanted to share some other design options with you. I’ll admit it took me a couple of days to decide the direction I wanted to go with these blocks. Once they were together I started ...

Modern checkerboard star pieced cushion cover from Quilt Social

Rock City batiks by Northcott are coming to stores this month. Definitely a holiday treat for quilters – I could just look at these batiks all day! It was difficult to decide what to create with these fabrics because the motifs of the Rock City batiks themselves are so interesting to look at. In the end I decided to make a large pieced block so I could still enjoy the motifs. Join me as I take a couple of fat quarters and turn them into a pieced checkerboard star cushion cover.

Paw Prints - Fabric Options from Daphne Greig

One of my latest patterns was designed to use the Polar Hugs collection by Northcott.

I thought it would be fun to try my design in two other fabric collections.

Rock City by Banyan Batiks - this collection will be in stores in December 2018

Strokes of Brilliance by Northcott - in quilt shops now.

These 2 version look so different from the original one.

I used Electric Quilt software to try these other fabrics for my design.

Did you know that you can download fabrics to use in your EQ software?

Here is a video showing how to do it.

Some ...
