The Mystery of the Seven Stars from Nina Paley

20 The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.

Somewhat More Like Unto the Son of Man from Nina Paley

13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.

14 His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;

15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.

16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword ...

Like Unto the Son of Man from Nina Paley

This is supposed to be “one like unto the son of man” with “a sharp twoedged sword” coming “out of his mouth”. However, the sword looks a lot like a necktie. I dunno, all my research of this vision shows me no clever solutions to the sword-out-the-mouth deal. Some Jesii look like they’re holding the sword in their mouth the way a dog holds a bone; others just have a sword floating somewhere near the face. I’m trying to limit the design to 64 points so it can morph with the other designs (lion, lamb, cathedral, rose windows ...

More Xtian symbols from Nina Paley

I’m not a Christian, but I keep animating Christian symbols in this mandala thingy, to put towards my Animated Apocalypse. Meanwhile maybe it’ll be useful for Christians to stare at, if they’re into that sort of thing.

Saint Nina’s Cross from Nina Paley

Today I learned there is a Saint Nina.

She even has her own cross – like a Latin cross with the arms angled down. It looks kind of like an airplane.

Naturally I had to make a crucifix based on it. Given the current state of the airline industry, it’s rather timely.

Muse Symbol from Nina Paley

I’m looking at and thinking about religious symbols all day – ok, I admit it, CHRISTIAN symbols, those symbols I’m surrounded by here in Western Civilization, but which have always been forbidden because I’m an atheist Jew. Well, I’ve lifted that internal prohibition recently, and my symbol-loving mind has been wallowing in symbols like a pig in shit ever since.Crosses are everywhere, including the Venus symbol, also known as the Woman symbol. Some say the O represents the womb, and the + represents a man hanging off it. Obviously the cross symbol predates Christianity, and its meaning ...

Theocronomics from Nina Paley

One notable thing about the Bible, from the Old Testament, is that sins are transferrable. Just as debt is transferrable in an economy. So the Bible establishes a…Sin Economy.

“…in the death of Christ the “guilt” of sin is transferred to Christ from believers.  Though we are all “guilty” as sinners before God; we can rest and trust that Christ took upon himself the guilt of those who trust in him.” – source

In the Old Testament, Abraham is to sacrifice his son Isaac, but then God opens the first Sin Bank, and accepts a goat in his stead. Exodus ...

Animated Crucifixion from Nina Paley

Happy Lent season to my Christian friends! Enjoy this animated gif of Jesus nailed to a cross, in some frames squirting blood out of his hands and right nipple, occasionally collected into cups by angels.

There is so much Jesus imagery it’s like a motherlode (or should I say Fatherlode?) of gold running through our collective subconscious. I’m going mining.
