Really Random Thursday, 11/10/22 from Live a Colorful Life

It's been kind of  a quiet week.

Gabe and Ella had their first cross country meet. I think there were maybe five or six elementary schools. Ella came in 9th in third grade girls--and got a t-shirt saying she was a Top 10 finisher.
Gabe did well among fifth grade boys, placing 16th.
We have had some beautiful sunsets.

The other day we had the most phenomenal rainbow I have ever seen, but I was driving and could not take a photo. Not that I could have captured its beauty anyway...

I did like the way the white water ...

Really Random Thursday, 11/3/22 from Live a Colorful Life

We ended last week by going to Charlotte's fall performance, The Plot, Like Gravy, Thickens. Such a funny name. It was a murder mystery set in the 1940s and Charlotte's character was the sister to the murder victim. We might be biased, but we were not the only ones who thought she played her part the best of anyone.

Mark's brother, Scott, and wife LouAnn, flew in on Sunday for a few days. They had come to southern California to attend a wedding and then flew up to Fresno.

Really Random Thursday, 10/27/22 from Live a Colorful Life

I can hardly believe it is the last Thursday of October. Only two months left in 2022!

Last Friday I went to a quilting retreat in the mountains, at Hartland Christian Camp. It is a really beautiful camp, in the heart of the California Sierras, about a two-hour drive from Fresno. I went to summer camp there a couple of times in grade school, and in fact two of my uncles were part of the group that started the camp back in the late 1940s.

Anyway, the number of quilters attending has grown to about 100, and we are spread ...

Really Random Thursday, 10/20/22 from Live a Colorful Life

We have been doing some cosmetic changes to our main bathroom in the last few weeks. New shower curtain and towels, took down a picture and added the two shelves. But the biggest upgrade was adding a frame to the builder-grade mirror that is original to the house (built in the late 1960s). I had seen multiple ads on Instagram from a company called Frame My Mirror. They made it look so simple. Lots of frame choices, glue the ends and hammer in little things to hold the frame together and then take off the industrial tape and just attach ...

Really Random Thursday, 10/13/22 from Live a Colorful Life

Most of the events of the last week involved Gabe's birthday. He turned 11.

He is the only one of the four grandkids who has always shared a bedroom. During the summer, the kids had the big bedroom swap. He went into Charlotte's room (which incidentally she and I had just painted on New Year's Day), Charlotte went into Gabe's former room, which he had shared with Ella (because it was the larger of the two rooms and she is a teenager now), Ella went into Levi's room and Levi went into the fifth bedroom ...

Really Random Thursday, 10/6/22 from Live a Colorful Life

I guess there hasn't been much randomness going on around here--no posts since the middle of September. I have been doing a lot of sewing, but that needs some separate blog posts.

Let's begin with books I read in September. My friend, Doris, recommended the Story of Arthur Truluv, and it was a charming book. I spend a lot of my listening/reading time with murder mysteries and psychological thrillers, so reading a book like this is like a palate cleanser. Highly recommended, as is the sequel, Night of Miracles. The Locked Room is the latest in the ...

Really Random Thursday, 9/8/22 from Live a Colorful Life

It's been a hot minute since I wrote a really random post. But by hot, I mean sizzling.

Tuesday, the weather app on my phone kept waffling between predicted 114, then 115, then 116, then 114...back and forth. But really, at that temperature, one or two degrees doesn't really matter. Mark picked Levi up from water polo practice and had him take this screen shot of the outside temperature.

We are now in a cooling trend: 108 today, and down to a chilly 92 on Saturday. Might have to get out my sweatshirt. Ha!

Haha.

Really Random Thursday, 8/18/22 from Live a Colorful Life

Well, we did it. Much to our disappointment, we gave up on our dream of having a dahlia garden full of gorgeous flowers.

It is just TOO HOT in Fresno. We read all the suggestions and tried to follow them--this year we added shade cloth overhead. But to no avail. The other day, Gabe and I pulled them all out. Out of nearly 30 plants, this was the best we got. And lest you think the top one is a nice big bloom. Nope. Only 2 1/2" across.

Next year we have decided on lantana. It has a lot ...

Really Random Thursday, 7/14/22 from Live a Colorful Life

It's been a few weeks since I've posted a "really random" and there isn't much to post about this week either.

On July 4, I was scrolling through Facebook, and long-time friend, Tonya, posted photos of all the patriotic vignettes she had around the house. It has been my recent goal to gift a lot of my quilts, and I made a snap decision to give Tonya the Stars and Stripes quilt. I called her and asked if we could stop by for a few minutes. It was so much fun to give her the quilt, and ...

Really Random Thursday, 6/16/22 from Live a Colorful Life

Our first dahlias started opening. I'm not sure what the intense heat will do to them. We put a shelter of shade cloth over them this year so fingers crossed that we will have many more blooms.

I picked Charlotte up from school last week and we had lunch at one of our favorite restaurants, Jack's Urban Eats.

Their garlic fries are my favorite.

I love spending time with this girl so much.
You can tell she has an Instagram account--she likes to document her food choices. :)
Yum...
