The year 2020 in review! from Quilting with Claire

One thing is certain, the year that just ended will have been full of twists and turns for most people. We’ve all had to face unimaginable challenges. It has also been a somewhat forced way to reinvent ourselves, to rethink our priorities and to find pleasure in the little things in life. For me, the … Continue reading "The year 2020 in review!"

A correction or two from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Well, it seems that I goofed. I put the wrong link for QUILTsocial yesterday. Thanks to Gwen for alerting me to that. I did fix it and hopefully got the right link in there. I'm going to list all the links for last week later today. That will solve all problems.

Thanks to Carmen, we now know with 100% certainty what that "container" building is. The structure is the sales center for the Mattamy Homes development on Ninth Line.  It was designed by a famous Architect Frank Gehry.   The development is called The Nine.

The sales center is made ...

Tidy up time from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I had a great day! I got most of the writing done - a wee bit more to finish off this morning. And two e-mails that should be sent today with homework assignments, and then I'm up to date for the moment. The more I write, the easier it becomes, and I'm having fun with it. When my students signed up for a class, they never expected to get a "book" after each class. But all my pictures are there, and it can make or break the class for some.

And I've been getting some interesting pictures back ...

Cherrywood Challenge from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

OH MY GOD --- I had just finished my post yesterday when I got some AMAZING NEWS.

The challenge piece that I made for the Cherrywood Challenge got accepted as one of the 200 finalists!!! Yahoo!!!!  I know - you want to see it, but I've decided that I'll hold off posting it until the winners are announced. Not that I think mine will win anything, but just because. So that date is February 22nd. Then I'll post a picture. I'm thrilled with my piece, and regardless of what happens with it - I think I did an amazing ...

Summer Moon Show and Tell from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

It doesn't look like summer outside, so it's a good day to talk about Summer Moon! This is one of the ongoing classes that we ran through The Hobby Horse this past year. The book is by Carrie Nelson.

Summer Moon by Carrie Nelson

The concept in the book is quite unique. Take 24 blocks. Make three blocks of each, but in different sizes - a 5", 6 ½" and 8" - these are unfinished sizes. Then you add framing to make the blocks the same size! It was a challenge, to say the least, and LOTS of little pieces ...

The countdown from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

It's December 1st! Oh my! How did this year fly by? Keeping busy, that's how!

While I'm going to enjoy every day like I do most days, I'm also on my own little countdown until the end of the year.

  • How many Zoom presentations left to host? (7)
  • How many Zoom presentations left to participate in? (2)
  • How many Zoom meetings (1)
  • How many quilts for magazines to be finished? (2)
  • How many Zoom sewing days, including Virtual Retreats? (6)
  • How many customer quilts to be quilted? (lots)
  • How many documents to write? (6)

So that ...

A new friend from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I don't even know what to say. The Bell technician came yesterday afternoon. He rechecked the wires and connections; the modem has been moved from a power bar to a wall socket. The lines didn't seem to be pairing, so he made some adjustments. ALAS - none of that worked; the darn internet went down when I was in the middle of a presentation last night.

I'm so frustrated, I can't even get mad anymore. But NOW I have David on my contact list, and after I got off my call, I contacted him. I didn't ...

Somewhere over the rainbow from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I learned another very valuable lesson yesterday. With all the writing that I do and how I have a love/hate relationship with technology, you'd think that I would have learned this a long time ago. I had to write a document yesterday and I had some issues with it that well, you don't want to know about. Then when I went to save, Word froze. Yep - the second time this week.

I didn't panic and I didn't even have time to say some bad words. I just restarted. So the next time I start a ...

In the neighbourhood from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I'm almost out of the woods on the writing assignments. OK - who am I kidding? I'm not. Just because I've almost finished one commitment, doesn't mean that I'm done. NO - hardly, there are still eight more things that need to be addressed on the computer. Thankfully, none of them will take as long as the one I'm completing this morning. Phew!

So, if you're waiting on a class list or class homework - please be patient for just a while longer. I hope to have a lot of that cleared up by the end ...

Backyard beauty from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I was supposed to go on a road trip today, but I postponed it because of the contacts I had earlier this week. Better to be safe as the last thing I want is to bring something unwanted to another person.

In a way, that worked out just fine as I have a lot of prep work to get done today. I'm making great progress on the prepping for the classes this weekend. I also have writing assignments that are due so it's going to be another busy day. But I'm working my way through them.

However ...

Scraps and more scraps from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

We had an excellent Zoom sewing session yesterday. We got to see two people that we hadn't seen in quite a while, so that was good to catch up with them. I was ripping something out, and now it's ripped out completely. That was a bit of a nasty job, but it's done.

I did spend some time puttering to try and get a handle on the stuff in Studio B. I got everything from the retreat put away, except those baskets of work that need to be done. They are still sitting in the middle of ...

The end of things from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Oh my -- I'm as busy as ever and wasn't August supposed to be a quiet month? Well - it will be, starting tomorrow! HA - no laughing!! It seems that everything I'm working on, I still can't share with you! How crazy is that?

I finished off the second quilt for Quilts of Valour yesterday. The binding got put on by machine, and the sleeve got hand stitched in place. In case you're wondering, that particular quilt hanger is a rod with clips in case the quilt doesn't have a sleeve. This quilt needed a sleeve ...

The Virtual Retreat - Day Two from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

he who
I love hosting the Virtual Retreat!!!  Now that my commitments are out of the way, I can actually enjoy the entire day!!!

I finished the editing and presentation prepping in the early morning. When I did start the retreat at 9 AM, it was to get the binding and the sleeve on the magazine quilt.

The quilt got packed in a box, and then I went to print the labels for shipping the box. Oh, boy - that was an experience. It's super easy to put all the information into the online form, but when I went to ...

Quilt in a day from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I do NOT recommend my style to anyone. I'm the biggest procrastinator in the world. I think I have loads of time, which I do, more or less. Procrastination doesn't leave a whole lot of room for error! So one learns to not make errors to live with them. While I'm also not bad with scheduling (OK - I could be better

Shamefaced from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I"m having a first world problem this morning. My mouse is not cooperating as well as I would like! Thankfully I have a touch screen on the computer so that makes life a little bit easier. I've tested the battery and it seems to be fine. It's just not happy - works sometimes and then it doesn't. Oh well......

Wasn't that a fabulous show and tell from our Virtual UFO meeting? Seriously - if you have a group that meets regularly - consider setting up a Whatsapp group. It's a free app for your smartphone. A very ...

An easy day from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Wow -- I did work all day yesterday, but I don't really have much to show for it! I found one picture on my phone that I can share with you.

It was our virtual UFO meeting yesterday and I see e-mails and pictures from everyone and I SHOULD have got it all prepped for this morning, however, I did not. So I'll be posting all the pictures tomorrow. Technically, there should be no excuse for anyone to NOT have finished their homework. In case you're wondering, I did finish my homework. That was a HUGE job to ...

Progress reports all around from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

For those people who work outside of the house, this work at home/self-isolation thing must be very challenging. For our household, it's business as usual as both DH and I work at home all the time. Technically, our lives haven't changed a whole lot and we still haven't bought any TP. I just heard that even though Costco is bringing in up to 1,000 packages every day, the stock is still getting wiped out by the end of the day.

It's time to do some updates today. On my virtual challenges? Great progress. On ...

Sit n Sew from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

It was one of those days again at Sit n Sew. I seem to have spent a good part of the day searching for stuff for others. I don't really mean searching, but someone asks a question and I seem to have the product or a sample to show. We talked about our new panel exchange - which you'll hear more about when the time comes. One person forgot the power cord and foot pedal for their machine, so I had to get one of mine set up.

BUT - it doesn't matter. I got my quilt top assembled ...

Fabric Shopping from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

It was a rainy day but that didn't deter me from the long walk with the girls. Fortunately, it was just a slight drizzle which later became a nasty rain, but I was in the car when it started to really rain.

I had company for my fabric shopping expedition. I got a call from Ronda who was looking for something to do and so we both headed off to Hamilton to look for fabrics.

We picked up some more vinyl - you can never have enough vinyl. I've got quite a variety of colors now so whatever we ...

North Star Show and Tell from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

While I did not get the first two items on my To-Do list done (I knew that wasn't going to happen), I made good progress on one of them and I did get a couple of urgent matters taken care of. The rest of the list awaits for me today. Now instead of telling you that I'll do a blog post on ToDo lists, I'm adding it to my list of topics. Done! I added two items - well possibly three to that list yesterday. As if I would ever lack something to say!

I'm so darn ...
