Whew! Just unloaded a huge client quilt from the longarm. 106” X 113” of snuggly flannel for a lucky little boy! Quilted with edge to edge digital design, Tire Tracks from Urban Elementz. This quilted up so nicely! I know my client will be pleased. She was so hard on herself about the quality of… Continue reading Saturday Stitching

I am so excited to announce that I am going to be teaching on a cruise again!
I have taught on a cruise before in March 2024. It was such a great experience and so much fun and I feel so fortunate to be teaching on another one.
This time we are headed to Alaska – and I’m very excited about that!!
2025 Alaska Quilting Adventure featuring Maywood Studio Fabrics
Set sail with us on the Alaska Quilting Adventure, a 7-night cruise that combines the stunning beauty of Alaska with the joy of quilting. This trip features expert instructors Tiffany ...

This was the saying that kept going through my mind as I pieced this block. Fiddly, and time-consuming; and my mind went to enough different places while I worked on it that I made several mistakes in the cutting of the fabrics.
No coup here, but this was a good start on the first day of piecing this block. |
I’m now considering cutting out the remaining pieces of the entire quilt so I can just sew, trim and press. A long weekend should fill the bill, so long as I’m not interrupted.
read moreWell, this can be either the best decision in my business or the worst decision. You may be wondering what I have decided.
I have had the Quilter’s Groove TRIBE membership since June of 2021, and I absolutely love it and the members. Currently, the price is $24.97/month. There is a low-price offer for the Design Decision Dilemma at $9/ month.
For the past 3 months, I have been thinking of making a huge change and have made my final decision. I will combine the two memberships AND reduce the ...
read moreI finished two more of the 24” blocks for the Barn Star Sampler I’m making. This block was pretty fun to make. I didn’t have to use the seam ripper near as much as I did on the last block. read moreThis is just a fun little quilt I made for our granddaughter for her birthday. She's crazy about Unicorns and calls them 'Corns' and thus the perfect opportunity to use this fabric was created. I didn't have any ideas past that so I just cut the panel squares and pulled coordinating fabrics from my stash and let that set on the design bed for a while, waiting for inspiration...Sigh.
read moreI made a quilt for the April Showers blog hop. A list of all of the participants are in my last blog hop. Be sure to look at them after you are done admiring my quilt.
I ran out of time making this quilt so I didn't finish it, but it wasn't from lack of effort. I even made it during my lunch and ... read more
In May 2023, I cut the charms into 2.5" strips and used them as leaders & enders. If you're curious about this technique for making a quilt on the side (like a quilter's side hustle) while working on other projects, I highly recommend Quiltville. In the free patterns section you will find almost a dozen different leader & ender projects ... read more
You know by now how these things get started: someone gives me something. In this case, as part of a larger bundle of possibilities, there were three matching 6-1/2″ applique hearts. Much too cute to trash. I did consider pot holders, or a table runner, or a banner. But what they wanted to be was a baby quilt.
I had a little bundle of fat eights that “happened” to match perfectly. I love it when that happens. All that was needed was some background fabric and something to make centers for 6-1/2″ star blocks. I really wanted to ...

DISCLAIMER: When I started writing this post, it was about 6 weeks ago. Life (actually, death) intervened and I talk a little bit about it in this post, so here’s your trigger warning. All references to days are from that time because I didn’t feel like guessing at when they were. Enjoy.
My goodness. Talk about labor intensive—two sections have a triangle about half the size of a pea. And Sunday, I saw where someone on Reddit had pieced the quilt and ...
read moreLast week the Mancuso Quiltfest Show was held in Greenville, SC, and a few gal pals from our guild went with me to see it. I haven’t been to this show before, mostly because the ticket price is a bit steep – $15 plus parking fee. I have had precious little sewing time lately, and that isn’t going to change for the next couple of weeks, so I thought it would be nice to see some inspiring work by other quilters. The show was both inspiring and disappointing at the same time. A few pieces really caught my attention ...

Fifteen years ago I started a quilt (actually, several quilts were started) and did not finish it. This was back in the days of owning a quilt shop where my eyes were bigger than the time I had to get things done.
A book by Sandy Bonsib—“Sweet Treats”—had several easy-to-make quilts, each based around two blocks, and all named for pies and other desserts.
At the time, I thought it would be a good idea for a club at the quilt shop. I started ...

2: not frequented by human beings: DESOLATE
a lonely spot in the woods
3: sad from being alone: LONESOME
He was feeling lonely without his wife and children.
4: producing a feeling of bleakness or desolation
Over the past couple of days, since my realization that going alcohol-free can be lonely, I have thought a lot about ...

It isn’t often that you get a call, and you immediately know the caller wants something, BUT, that whatever they are going to ask of you might actually be fun, so you let them talk you into a “Yes”. In this case, I became immersed in my first full T-Shirt quilt that I have dubbed “Decades of Decibels”.
I can’t claim design inspiration on this one as my uncle knew what he wanted. He had taken time to inventory and visually lay out the shirts he had collected from rock concerts over the ...
read moreWhen I saw this panel by Rubin Design Studio “Intricate Illustrated Kitty” of EQuilter, my heart skipped a beat. I just love the colors, the curves and the movement in this panel.
The panel measured 29″ x 43.5″. I could have cut 3.75″ strips for 6″ finished hexies and trimmed the panel to 42″. But, I decided to cut 3.25″ strips for 5″ finished hexies using my Star 60 Ruler. I would need to trim more of the panel, but I felt a smaller strip would make more interesting hexies. There is some stretching with bias ...

The Creative Design Society is my ongoing membership, and it focuses on all things machine quilting. Someone asked me what is the thing I love about it the most. That is an easy question to answer. It is all of the members. While the primary focus is on quilting, we have supported members through some trying times. I, for one, leaned on all of the members when my mother passed away. The support was incredible. Other members have had falls, cancer ...
