Quilting a Tree of Life Block on a Longarm Frame from The Free Motion Quilting Project

It’s time to quilt our second Tree of Life block, this time on a longarm! I admit, I didn’t like my design when I first began quilting. I was VERY tempted to rip out the stitches and start all over again. Learn why and how I muscled through it in this new longarm quilting tutorial:

~ Binding Tip and Dancing Pinwheels Sneak Peek ~ from Podunk Pretties

Hey sweet quilting friends! Let's just get right to the good stuff.  Who doesn't love a newly finished quilt, so here's the sneak peek of my newest quilt pattern Dancing Pinwheels.  It's bright and happy with lots of color.  Sometime this week I'll let you see the entire quilt with more details.

Dancing Pinwheels is a scrappy quilt designed with the beginner quilter in mind.  While attaching the binding it reminded me of cute tip to help with those 45 degree seams.  Sewing the binding together with a 45 degree seam isn't necessary but ...

Mary Elizabeth Butterfly Quilt from Brown Bird Designs Quilts

I am totally smitten over my newest quilt. Everything about it makes me smile. The fabrics I used in it are all designed by Christopher Thompson aka The Tattooed Quilter. This is his third line created for Riley Blake Designs called Mary Elizabeth. Its fresh spring feel has inspired some spring cleaning in my sewing room as well as this light and playful quilt. As soon as I saw the line at Market, I fell in love with the petals design because of its playfulness. When my package of fabric arrived, it was the main fabric that drew me in ...

~ Making a Dresden from a Charm Pack ~ from Podunk Pretties

As you all know I'm a sucker for Dresdens.  So when my friend Judy asked if I would teach her to make a Dresden bed runner I couldn't resist.  Judy is fairly new to quilting...or so she says....just look at her perfect Dresden!  Doesn't look like a newbie block to me!   No waves, no puckers, no issues what so ever in her first Dredsen.

She used a charm pack by Moda called Love You.   Her background fabric will be the gray speckled.  I'll keep you updated on the runner as it progresses.  If all ...

How to quilt an overall swirl using Full Line Stencil and the Pounce Pad from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

When you start free motion quilting, you are told to just do an all over meander, keep everything curvy and don’t overlap your lines. It sounds easy to someone who has been quilting for a while. But to a true beginner, that can be very intimidating.

In today’s tutorial I show you how to use stencils as a guide to learn and master the overall swirl. Once you have got the muscle memory down and have practiced moving throughout the quilt creating an even quilting texture, you can ditch the stencil and start getting creative.

Supplies we used ...

Elephant and Donkey Quilt from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

Elephant and Donkey Quilts

Pixel quilting is all the rage, but it’s really not a new technique. In 1931, the Kansas City Star published a mosaic elephant pattern as a tribute to a beloved elephant at the local zoo.

Elephant and Donkey Quilts

The next year, a companion quilt was released. This one featured a pixelated donkey named Giddap. Both are cute as can be, and so easy to put together!

Pinwheel Picnic Quilt from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

Pinwheel Picnic Quilt

My very favorite quilts are the kind of quilts that are used and enjoyed. The ones that snuggle a baby or keep Mom warm during chilly little league games. The ones that follow you to the beach and the mountains and dozens of family picnics. They may end up with a smudge or a stain, but these quilts are always the best loved – and so full of memories!
