BABY SHARK QUILT from Made By Marney

What could be cuter than a baby shark. Since sharks are all the rage, how about 3 sharks?

Baby Shark Quilt

This is such a super simple baby quilt, that can be assembled easily in a weekend.

Baby Shark

Yes, those teeth are created with rick rack. If your “baby” is under 2 years old, you may want to create the eyes with appliqued fabric rather than my favorite eyes done with buttons.

This is my son’s favorite quilt, SHARK ATTACK.

Six funky little sharks! Again, the teeth are made from rick rack and the eyes ...

Free Quilted Owl Wall Hanging Pattern from Jacquelynne Steves

I love this little fall project- you can easily make it in an afternoon! Doing machine applique around the owl silhouettes is very simple because it’s all one piece- but since this is a wall hanging that probably won’t be washed, you could use a heavier weight fusible web (such as HeatNBond Ultrahold by Thermoweb) and skip the machine applique all together. Also, if you don’t have burlap or linen fabric, you could substitute any fabric for the bottom of the wall hanging.

You can click here for a printable PDF of the instructions and the owl ...

20 FREE Fall Projects To Quilt, Sew & Embroider from Jacquelynne Steves

If you were to ask me what my favorite season is, I would say Fall is in my top 2. Fall puts me in the mood for cool-weather projects and colors, a cup of hot tea and a piece of freshly baked apple pie. In fact, I think the majority of people name Autumn (or "Fall," for those of us in North America) as their favorite season! It's definitely a season of "comfort"- comfortable clothes, comfort food, and of course, cozy comfortable quilts! If you love Fall, you're going to love these projects that we have gathered for ...

Playtime Pals from Kim Hanson Quilts

In 2013, I blogged about a quilt pattern designed by my all-time favourite designer, Mary Engelbreit. It was called “Playtime Pals”. I originally made a quilt from this pattern for my baby daughter, Shawna in 1982. It lay on her single bed once she graduated from her crib. She slept covered by it every single night. It was washed a million times, used to make forts in the living room and became an outdoor picnic blanket when the need arose. After ten years or so, after having been dragged everywhere, it was tattered and torn, reduced to a few pieces ...

Free Summer Couture Embroidery Pattern from Jacquelynne Steves

Do you have any special memories associated with Summer?   One my favorite and most precious memories is the adorable sun dresses and accessories, like matching pocketbooks, that my Grandmother and Mother would sew for me. I can still remember sitting in my Grandmother's sewing room, watching her cut and sew the patterns. You can reduce or enlarge this to any size you want for any project- it would be great on a tea towel, or so sweet as an embroidered embelleshment on a little girl's dress or pocketbook. (Hand embroidery pattern only, this pattern not available for machine ...

Camping/Glamping from Made By Marney

My sweet customer Julie suggested I design some paper pieced Camping/Glamping blocks. I’m not so clear on the “glamping”, but the “camping” suggestion was spot on, especially with summer just starting.

I decided that 9 blocks would be the best. Nine is enough for a quilt, but customers could also just purchase 1 or 2 blocks for smaller projects. The 9 designs are CAMP TENT, CAMP FIRE, PICNIC TABLE, VINTAGE CAMPER, CANOE, OUT HOUSE, BEAR FISHING, HOWLING WOLF, and FIRE UP THE GRILL.

Furry Friends from Made By Marney from Made By Marney

Two more adorable pups have been added to my paper pieced dog block collection. Betty sent me photos of her sweet AUSTRALIAN SHEPHERD to inspire me to create this new dog block.

Australian Shepherd

Here is a side by side comparison photo of my block and Betty’s pup.

I love how expressive he turned out! Find the pattern HERE on Etsy.

It was also brought to my attention that I did not have an IRISH SETTER in the collection.

Making an image that has wavy or curly hair is very difficult in paper piecing. It is all ...

Strawberry Lemonade Table Runner Free Pattern from Jacquelynne Steves

Here is a sweet little project for you! While designing this project, I decided that pink and yellow is my new favorite color combination! Isn’t it perfect for summer or spring? I remember as a kid, that the unofficial kick-off of the summer season was going to a local “pick-your-own” field to harvest baskets & baskets of strawberries. Then we would come home and eat strawberries til they were coming out of our ears, and Mom and Grandmom would make strawberry jam. Those fond summer memories are brought back with this fun, refreshing project. Read More

Paper Pieced! from Made By Marney

Last week I had so much fun paper piecing with the Village Quilters of Lake Bluff, Illinois.

Such a lovely group of quilters! It is inspiring being with friends who love to paper piece as much as I do. When I returned home, I was motivated to do more designing.

Carol, a customer from the West Bend Quilt Guild asked me create a set of blocks that would work for a special child who loves Paris. We brainstormed a bit about things that might work for the “Parisian Collection”.

Eiffel Tower Block

The EIFFEL TOWER is one of the images ...

Pinwheel Pin Cushion & Mini Pillow Tutorial from Jacquelynne Steves

Hi Friends!! Isn't this pin wheel pin cushion adorable! I made the pin cushion (4" square), and had so much fun that I decided to make a larger one to use for a mini (9") pillow! They were really, really quick to make, too, because I used precut fabrics. Just use mini charm packs for the pin cushion, or a regular charm pack for the little pillow. There is a fun folding technique to make the double pinwheel design- but don't worry, it's pretty easy, and if your points in the center don't match up exactly ...
