October Brazos Retreat - Spooktacular Fun from My Quilty World

October means a return to Rainbow, TX and Brazos House.  It is like coming home and I can feel the peace settling in as I get closer and closer.  Being in the country appeals to me more with each passing year and the simple joy of stopping to see cattle and birds sharing a meadow happens often.  Mom and her little aren't real pleased that I have stopped, but my heart is loving each moment.

maria the quilter from My Quilty World

For those of you who loved the quilting on my Beach Quilt (yes, that IS a link), please meet my friend Maria Denise Hall. She is a crazy, cool, amazingly incredible quilter and I am blessed to call her "friend."  I stand in awe of her capability to look at the quilt and let it talk to her before starting so that each stitch is perfect for the finished product.  Please take a peek at this

Beach Friendship Quilt from My Quilty World

I've been asked to do a block exchange at the beach retreat this year (2017) and there are 20 of us participating in it.  We have to have twenty 12 1/2" blocks ready for exchange upon our arrival there.  As usual, I have grand plans and poor time management skills.  I've known about this for EVER and am just now getting around to working on it.  I am in the middle of summer with grands and very

Quilt Plano - Eye Candy Time from My Quilty World

Nervous.  Yep, that's me.  I have managed to agree to attend a breakfast (what am I thinking as I can't eat?) with friends and then time at the quilt show where people will see me.  I'm so very self-conscious still and until this whole mouth experience is behind me in November/December -- well, let's just say I know how silly I look.  AND OLD.  So very old.  Mirrors and cameras don't lie.  At any

BLRC Sew Day With Friends from My Quilty World

This has been a whirlwind month so far and it seems as though the last thing I would need is a day retreat.  However, I believe that a day sewing with friends is therapeutic and getting through this month will require all the therapy I can get.  Thus, I am off to the Best Little Retreat Center for a day with friends.  When we arrive, we grab a corner table and start stacking us in.  I have only

Weatherford Workshop With Maria from My Quilty World

At retreat last weekend, Maria mentioned that she was short an assistant for her upcoming workshop.  Well, after checking my calendar, it appears I'm free for the day and can go help so it's an early morning trip to Weatherford and a start time of 8:30 a.m.  Somehow I manage to actually arrive early -- how I  missed all that 8 a.m. traffic, I'll never know -- and have a bit of time to kill.  That

May I Remember When Brazos Retreat from My Quilty World

10th - And we are off.  Welcome to the new ladies.  At least  you have power.  Be thankful for the small things in life. I even managed to clean my corner of the world before this starts.  I know -- shock, shock to everyone. The truth is, I haven't really done enough to create too big of a mess. We have a group project starting tomorrow requiring a LOT of cutting today.  I feel for those girls

May Tweeners - Brazos House from My Quilty World

I am up in Utah for the beginning of Tweener Time but my faithful friends have sent me pics to tide me over.  Tweeners are those who stay "between" the retreats (for an additional fee) and just hang out.  It's relaxing, book reading, quiet sewing, lazy time for most of us.  Several have to work from here, though, so we keep it pretty quiet during the day. 6th -  Lots of TA-DA's for today. Linda

May Cinco de Mayo Retreat from My Quilty World

May has arrived and with it are mixed emotions.  It means 10 days of retreat but it also means the end of retreats here until October.  That is such a long time.  I want to soak it all in and yet I'm really not feeling up to snuff this go round.  I will make the best of it and enjoy as much as I can.  Life is just too short not to savor these precious moments. 3rd - As I drive into the Brazos

April Brazos Retreat - Rainy Day Fun from My Quilty World

The last three weeks have simply zoomed by.  Seriously.  However, that means that we are back at retreat and I am thrilled.  I am pretty focused on arriving and setting up as my neck is still giving me some grief.  Therefore, no time for pictures.  When Maria arrives, though, her camera comes out.  She has quite the welcoming committee greeting her.  I have to admit, I'm a bit jealous.  She

Gal Time at Jennifer's House from My Quilty World

Sometimes it feels as though I am always on the go and unable to attend the little gatherings that take place in my own quilting community.  This week, the elements all have come together and I am on the road to Haslet and Jennifer's wonderful home.  If I wasn't driving, I'd literally do a little jump for joy.  (You've heard of speech to text, right?) At any rate, I am the first one to arrive

Brazos Blooms Quilt Retreat from My Quilty World

This time of year, the months go screaming by and it seems as though one might think we are always at retreat.  Well, in all fairness, they are definitely more frequent during February-May.  I think we have a total of 28 retreats days during this time.  Almost a month.  Wow.  At any rate, here I go again -- off to Brazos for days of fun with friends. Day 1 - I was terribly remiss this morning.

Girlfriends and The Dallas Quilt Show from My Quilty World

Yay!!!  A day with Girlfriends is the BEST kind of day.  Okay, okay -- days with family are pretty amazing too.  Stephannie has put together a breakfast at Mama's Daughter's Diner for everyone to meet and visit before the Dallas Quilt Show begins.  Sherri and I are the first to arrive and followed shortly by Suzanne. And then by everyone else.  Where is Stephannie, you ask?  Well, she didn't

Plano Quilt Guild - Maria Presenting from My Quilty World

Ms. Maria is presenting for the Plano Guild tonight.  Sherri is coming into town for the Dallas Quilt Show tomorrow.  It just makes sense for the two of us to go and support her.  Right? We leave a bit early for the meeting in order to avoid traffic and also have some dinner.  It works out perfect and we are right on time for the gig.  Maria arrives just after us and once she is ready, we sit

MidAtlantic Memories from From the Strawberry Patch...

MAQF  Williamsburg, VA  2000 I've been going up to MidAtlantic Quilt Festival for a long time, somewhere in the vicinity of twenty years; always with friends and always making memories. Back when I started going up it was held in Williamsburg, VA; it moved to Hampton in 2005. Back in those earlier days I traveled with these two: Quiltkeemosabe in the center and Maredda, on the right. We met in

Brazos House Retreat - Black and White/A Black Tie Affair from My Quilty World

It's time for round two of our February double header.  I've been looking so forward to this retreat and tried super hard to have all diamonds here, but it just didn't work the way I wanted it to.  It will give a reason to spotlight the last two throughout the year and that will make for fun times.  At any rate, bring on group 2. This weekend, our startup lunch is at Hammond's BBQ in Glen Rose.

Warehouse Tour Guide from My Quilty World

A couple of days ago I offered to be a Harry Hines tour guide for a group of wonderful ladies who have not been there before.  They took me up on the offer and after a wonderful breakfast chatting about our lives at Mama's Daughter's Diner, we are on our way. Perth and Harry Hines is first up.  I plan to go to C & C first but neither they nor Super Textiles are open.  Hmmm.  I had been told that

Making Room from From the Strawberry Patch...

The New Year has arrived and new (okay, old) projects have surfaced (okay, re-surfaced!). Down with the Hexagon Blocks from the design wall, make room for Hexie Garden. This pattern, from Atkinson Designs, has been on my list to finish for three years. I am happy to report that it is now, officially, a completed TOP. Yes!! What accounts for this sudden burst of productivity? A retreat happened.
