A Ribbon Runs Through It - Quilt 2 from Thistle and Thicket Studio

Last Saturday, our quilt guild celebrated their 15th Anniversary with a trunk show, luncheon, make & take activity and a quilt challenge exhibit with friends & members, both past & present. The quilt exhibit was our "A Ribbon Runs Through It" challenge. I managed to finish my second quilt for the challenge a couple of days before our big event. WooHoo!

A Ribbon Runs Through It Challenge - Quilt 2 by Thistle Thicket Studio. www.thistlethicketstudio.com
I didn't name this quilt, so I'm just calling it Quilt 2 (so original). For Quilt 2, I made 6" crazy quilt blocks and then drew a couple of flowers and leaves on Steam-A-Seam 2 and fused to the back ...

Norm The Gnome from Thistle and Thicket Studio

Now that Christmas Day is over, I can share one of the gifts I made for my sister-in-law. She loves gnomes - or at least I hope she does as she received several for Christmas this year! - so I decided to make a burlap table topper appliqued with a gnome. Similar to my Stan The Snowman table topper I shared on the blog a couple of weeks ago, this is Norm The Gnome.

I used another ruffled burlap circle that I picked up at Michaels and backed it with a circle of fabric and stabilizer. I think he turned out cute ...

Stan The Snowman from Thistle and Thicket Studio

Stan The Snowman Applique by Thistle Thicket Studio. www.thistlethicketstudio.com
Last night was our quilt guild's Christmas party and each person was to bring a $10 gift for the gift exchange. I decided to make an appliqued table topper for my gift using a round ruffled burlap circle that I picked up at Michaels awhile back.

After looking online for a simple snowman or Santa clipart and not finding what I wanted, I decided to draw my own and Stan the Snowman was born. I sketched him on paper then scanned him into Adobe Illustrator and redrew him with the pen tool to create a pattern that I could ...

The Wedding Quilt from Thistle and Thicket Studio

Whew!!! The last couple of weeks have been a firestorm of activity. The hubby and I returned from our fall trip to Texas two weeks ago to learn that our son and his fiancé had decided to forego the big wedding they had planned in March (long story of venue going bankrupt and closing, etc.) and having a small immediate family wedding during Thanksgiving while we were all there. What??? But I haven't even started the wedding quilt I had planned to make for them! It was time to kick it into high gear!

A Scrappy Happy Holidays Mystery Sew Along - Month 11 from Thistle and Thicket Studio

Well, it's finally here. The last installment of "A Scrappy Happy Holidays Mystery Sew Along". I'm so happy to share my flannel quilt with the bonus borders.

A Scrappy Happy Holidays Flannel Quilt Designed, Pieced & Quilted by Thistle Thicket Studio. www.thistlethicketstudio.com

The quilt, with the bonus borders, finishes at 72" square - the perfect size to cuddle up this winter and why I wanted to make one out of flannel. Because this one is to wrap up in, I won't be adding any embellishments. I haven't added the stocking label yet either, as I think I'm going to hand embroidery the label information.

My tip for the bonus border is ...

The Forgotten Quilt from Thistle and Thicket Studio

I couple of weeks ago I mentioned cleaning out some closets and finding a quilt that I forgot I had. As soon as I took it out of the bag, I remembered it. Not so much making it, but quilting it, as it was one of the first custom quilting I did. I was very happy with how the quilting turned out.

The Forgotten Quilt by Thistle Thicket Studio. www.thistlethicketstudio.com
Unfortunately, I don't remember much else about the quilt - not the name of the fabric collection, nor the pattern. I made this quilt as a shop sample back in my quilt shop days. I hadn't missed ...

Another UFO Busted from Thistle and Thicket Studio

In my last post, I shared about my latest closet cleaning endeavors and my UFO busting accomplishments. Today I wanted to share the other quilt that I finally finished the binding on and can officially call this UFO BUSTED!

This Irish chain quilt is another quilt made from the scraps of a quilt that I gifted to a special girl about 12 years ago. A couple of years later she was killed in a car accident and may be the reason why I never finished it. This quilt is huge at 94" x 118" and took several hours to sew ...

UFO Busting from Thistle and Thicket Studio

I've been in a closet cleaning and organizing mode lately. As I was cleaning, I pulled out a couple of trash bags of quilts from the top of my closet. These quilts had been in the top of my closet for probably 15 years and they just needed binding attached. Now, you know how much I hate binding!

Anyway, in one of the bags was a huge Irish chain quilt that needed binding and a finished quilt I had made as a shop sample that I total forgot completely about. In the other bag were two matching (one blue ...

2019 Q4 Finish-A-Long Goals by Thistle Thicket Studio. www.thistlethicketstudio.com
This quarter I'm only posting two goals because of travel, holidays and, well, life! Maybe less is more, as they say, and I'll get both of my goals completed! Here goes.....

Rail Fence QOV Blocks by Thistle Thicket Studio. www.thistlethicketstudio.com
1. Rail Fence QOV - I have all the blocks made for this quilt, they just need to be sewn together, bordered, quilted, bound, labeled and washed. Not much left to do - Ha!

A Scrappy Happy Holidays Mystery Sew Along - Month 10 Reveal! from Thistle and Thicket Studio

I'm so excited to share my finished ''A Scrappy Happy Holidays Mystery Sew Along" quilts with you today! So excited, in fact, that I'm posting a few days earlier than normal, but I just couldn't wait any longer!

A Scrappy Happy Holidays Designed By Thistle Thicket Studios. www.thistlethicketstudio.com
Here is the first quilt, without the added embellishments. I tried taking this photo outside and I was losing light quickly but it was so calm outside - which is rare - that I had to try a few shots. Unfortunately, the lighting isn't the greatest. This quilt measures 54" x 54".

Quilter's Emergency Kit Pillow Box Printable from Thistle and Thicket Studio

Quilter's Emergency Kit Pillow Box Printable by Thistle Thicket Studio. www.thistlethicketstudio.com
This weekend is our quilt guild's annual Fall Quilt Retreat and, as President, I wanted to have a little fun treat or gift to leave at each quilter's place. And so, the brainstorming began.

Sewing-Themed Bandages on Thistle Thicket Studio. www.thistlethicketstudio.com
I found this cute box of sewing-themed bandages at a quilt shop on a recent shop hop trip and decided to make a quilter's first aid kit. Of course, every first aid kit needs chocolate, so I decided to include some chocolate kisses because, as a kid, a kiss on your 'ouchie' always made it feel better.

A Ribbon Runs Through It - Awaken Wonder from Thistle and Thicket Studio

What!?! Three finishes this quarter for the Finish-A-Long! I'm always thrilled to get anything finished, so I'm super excited to get three things finished from my Q3 goal list (click here to see).

This is my challenge quilt for our quilt guild. The challenge is called "A Ribbon Runs Through It" and the rules are (1) that the finished quilt should measure 18" wide and 36" long; and (2) that each member would be provided with a fat quarter of turquoise fabric which must enter on the left side of the quilt at 3" wide and exit on ...

Rail Fence QOV Quilt from Thistle and Thicket Studio

Is it called Rail Fence or Fence Rail? I've seen and heard it both ways. Either way, this one is finished and one I can check off my Q3 Finish-A-Long list! Although I listed this quilt on my goals list here, it really was the work of many hands.
