Logs on Point in Purple 71, 72, 73, 74, 75 from Virtual Quilter

Very deep purple , very bright green. Not a combination I had ever thought of. Had thought of similar, but usually a  bit lighter.

I didn’t intend dog faces to appear in the two designs, but they did!

At least they don’t bark all day and all night.

Enough with the dogs, how about some pointy bits.

Not too sure that I like the last one … looks a bit weird!

Logs in an Outback Garden 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

Many Australian native plants can survive drought conditions, but they look forward to the break of droughts just like Aussie people, especially those who live in the country areas and provide food for those who live in the more built up areas.

The best flowers visible from my garden this year  were a couple of gum trees over our back fence, one with red flowers, one yellow..

In the second design the corners are different … I couldn’t decide which one I liked best, so left  them as they were. A real quilt made like this could be used with ...

Red and White Log Jam 31, 32, 33, 34, 35 from Virtual Quilter

The first two designs in this week’s Log Cabin Retreat  has only Log Cabin blocks featuring light fabrics on one side, dark fabrics on the other .

There are similarities, but they are laid out differently.  If you make  64 similar blocks, play with the  layout before you piece them together … there are many, many designs waiting to be discovered for those blocks.

But, what if you make four all dark fabric Log Cabin blocks? The third design has four  dark blocks to replace four of the half and half blocks.

Then back to all identical Log Cabin blocks but ...

Cabin Fever Christmas Edition from Virtual Quilter

Middle of the week again … feels like it was the middle of last week yesterday!

The second design is very interesting!

WOW!!!

My favourite for today!

I like the one above too!

I love the last one too!

I hope your preparations for Christmas are going well … just two weeks to go!

More Log Cabin designs mid week, next week, and the week after too!

Red, White and Green Logs 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from Virtual Quilter

Very interesting design … would work in many different combinations.

The second one would also work in many colour combinations.

I like the one above!

Very interesting.

Love the last!

One day I should print off three inch square red white and green quilt designs and hang them on a tree … which means I need another tree … and space to put it!

That is all for this week, but there will be more Log Cabin designs mid week, next week.

Curved Cornerstones + 126, 127, 128, 129, 130 from Virtual Quilter

It’s the middle of another week already, and I like the first Log Cabin design but worry that the weeks are getting shorter. Not too mention the years.

The second design is very interesting!

Another very interesting design.

The project file these come from has no new designs at the moment, but I might just find some time to play with some of the designs with the cross in the centre … I like all of these, but can see changes which just might make them better.

I think the second design is my favourite, but it will be interesting ...

Logs at Lochiel 61, 62, 63, 64, 65 from Virtual Quilter

I like the first design of this week’s Log Cabin design variations.

The second design is very interesting!

Another interesting design.

Just a thought … Log Cabin blocks would be a good substitute for an autograph book, with the signatures added to the light strips, with the option of adding embroidery.

On second thought, I would add signatures to quilts with less blocks than those in the collection, but the general idea would make a great family heirloom in any size.

My favourite today is the second design.

That is all for this week … more Log Cabin design’s mid ...

Multi Colour Cabin from Virtual Quilter

Interesting!

Also interesting!

I am thinking that I should have saved this project file until next month … but I guess I can use it again then as the colours will suit the red, white and green theme I try to use during the lead up to Christmas Day.

Talking of Christmas, the design above could be printed out and glued to a pieced of cardboard and hung on a Christmas Tree!

I think the last one is my pick of the day, but I may change my mind after another coffee.

That is all for this week’s mid week ...

Log Cabin Hideaway 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 from Virtual Quilter

The colours in this lot would be lovely for a romantic break in a Log Cabin near a river or lake … especially a pink lake. (There is a pink lake down the highway from where I live, though it often looks brown rather then pink.)

First design is interesting, and so is the second one above.

I like the one above …

… and I like the one above too!

I have been trying to work out which one I like most, but have given up … I like them all! It is always interesting to mix up the different variations of Log ...

Cabin Fever Quilted 66, 67, 68, 69, 70 from Virtual Quilter

First design is very interesting!

The next three designs could all use more dark pieces, but I like them without the extra colour as the quilting can be seen all over the top.

In the design above there are eight more blocks with dark added.

More dark areas added, and I like it like that.

Saved my favourite to last in this week’s Log cabin retreat.

More Log Cabin quilt designs mid week, next week.

Beetaloo Logs 36, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40 from Virtual Quilter

This project file uses just one block … the basic Log Cabin block, using a centre plus four rounds of strips.

The size of the centre square and width of the strips determines the size of the quilt. The designs in this collection would be a queen size quilt if the blocks start with cutting a 1.5 inch square and strips 1.5 inches wide, with the finished block size 9 inches.

I wonder how many different designs could be created by turning the blocks every which way?

Adding multiple colours to the mix would introduce many more variations!

With ...

Logs on the Road 61, 62, 63, 64, 65 from Virtual Quilter

The first design is neat and tidy, but it might work on a tiled floor but not quite right for a bed.

Turn eight blocks around and it becomes a big star.

Back to the first design, but with four blocks moved out towards the corners.

Now they are all the way to the corners.

The final design for today has the four dark blocks from the centre moved towards the corners, and it is my favourite for the day.

That is all for this week’s mid week collection of Log Cabin designs, but there will be more next ...

Logs in a Misty Garden 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

Very interesting collection of block designs … especially the pyramids with floral clouds!

Lovely!

Another lovely one.

I think the applique is a bit too much in the design above.

I like the last one … just enough applique, so the logs are an important part of the design, and there is room to show off some quilting.

TNT Logs 86, 87, 88, 89, 90 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting design to start today’s Log Cabin retreat … first of five Log Cabin quilt variations to look at.

An interesting variation of the first design, almost the same and with the colours swapped. I like the colour change.

In the design above the two rows of blocks in the centre, both vertically and horizontal, are the same but the corners have been changes.

I like the change, but what does it look like with the colours reversed?

I should have left them as they were!

My favourite of this mid week’s collection of Log Cabin designs is the ...

Logs on Point 86, 87, 88, 89, 90 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting design to start the day!

The send design is much more interesting, especially the centre bit.

I love the one above!

Neat and tidy and would look great on a bed in just about any colour combination. Remember that the trick with getting good results with any of the Log Cabin variations is to get the contrast right.

Interesting design to finish this weeks collection of Log Cabin designs.

That is all for this week’s Log Cabin retreat, but there will be more next week.

Logs Around the Yard 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

Filled a bin with green waste yesterday, but the back yard still looks lovely and green. Unfortunately most of the green is still weeds.

These blocks would be a bit more fiddly to make than the usual Log Cabin blocks, but the fabrics could be cut into strips and joined together and then cut into narrow strips to fir the blocks.

I think I should add more colours to the designs … one day when I have nothing to do and expect no interruptions! It probably wouldn’t work as when I don’t expect interruptions I get lots.

If we ...

Purple Logs 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting design, pretty colours.

Are those crowns in the corners in the design above? Or birds without heads?

Another interesting one.

The one above is a slight alteration of the one above it! Less interesting, but I like it more.

The last design for this week’s mid week retreat (or coffee break) looks like an exploding star. It would be interesting to make with fading blocks around the centre star.

That is all for this week, but there will be another mid week Log Cabin retreat next week.

Log Cabin Baby Blocks 81, 82, 83, 84, 85 from Virtual Quilter

Baby Blocks become the stars in this project file!

The diamond shapes can be pieced separately in two pieces, which deleted some set in corners in some places in the design above, but not all of them.

There are so many ways to arrange the baby blocks … so little time to play with them to find more of the ways!

I like to see stars in a dark sky, which means I also like using dark backgrounds around stars in quilts.

Wow, a spinning star! Well, the centre bit is spinning.

More Log Cabin designs mid week next week.

Less Logs in the Cabin 101, 102, 103, 104, 105 from Virtual Quilter

Using less logs around the centre square saves a lot of time in making a block, and it makes a big difference to the design. I thought it might make the overall design less effective,, but now I think it looks more effective.

I love the design above … and the one below!

Not a big difference between the two, but effective.

The one above is very interesting

The last one is also very interesting, and below is the group photo of today’s designs.

There will be more Log Cabin designs mid week, next week.

Log Heap 71, 72, 73,74, 75 from Virtual Quilter

Another mid week retreat has arrived … I am sure the weeks are getting shorter!

The first two designs are very different, but I like them both.

The middle changed in the one above. Makes a big difference to the overall

The one above looks like a block design as well as a quilt design.

Interesting design to finish this weeks mid week retreat, or coffee break.

More Log Cabin designs mid week, next week.
