Logs Around the Yard 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

Filled a bin with green waste yesterday, but the back yard still looks lovely and green. Unfortunately most of the green is still weeds.

These blocks would be a bit more fiddly to make than the usual Log Cabin blocks, but the fabrics could be cut into strips and joined together and then cut into narrow strips to fir the blocks.

I think I should add more colours to the designs … one day when I have nothing to do and expect no interruptions! It probably wouldn’t work as when I don’t expect interruptions I get lots.

If we ...

Purple Logs 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting design, pretty colours.

Are those crowns in the corners in the design above? Or birds without heads?

Another interesting one.

The one above is a slight alteration of the one above it! Less interesting, but I like it more.

The last design for this week’s mid week retreat (or coffee break) looks like an exploding star. It would be interesting to make with fading blocks around the centre star.

That is all for this week, but there will be another mid week Log Cabin retreat next week.

Log Cabin Baby Blocks 81, 82, 83, 84, 85 from Virtual Quilter

Baby Blocks become the stars in this project file!

The diamond shapes can be pieced separately in two pieces, which deleted some set in corners in some places in the design above, but not all of them.

There are so many ways to arrange the baby blocks … so little time to play with them to find more of the ways!

I like to see stars in a dark sky, which means I also like using dark backgrounds around stars in quilts.

Wow, a spinning star! Well, the centre bit is spinning.

More Log Cabin designs mid week next week.

Log Heap 71, 72, 73,74, 75 from Virtual Quilter

Another mid week retreat has arrived … I am sure the weeks are getting shorter!

The first two designs are very different, but I like them both.

The middle changed in the one above. Makes a big difference to the overall

The one above looks like a block design as well as a quilt design.

Interesting design to finish this weeks mid week retreat, or coffee break.

Curved Cornerstones 76, 77, 78, 79, 80 from Virtual Quilter

The designs I am showing today remind me of the square dance we learned at primary school. Unfortunately I cannot remember the steps, just the fact that we did them for a few weeks.

The design above looks a bit like an aeroplane coming towards me!

Now I can see some fire crackers being set off!

Playing with colour in these designs would be a lot of fun, pity I have a busy schedule over the next few weeks, so I won’t have time to play.

I like all these designs, but saved the best till last.

That is ...

Red and White Log Jam 26, 27, 28, 29, 30 from Virtual Quilter

From black and white over the last week, to red and white for today, but today only.

The one above is interesting … but I think I might add some more white for a future post.

I have also corrected a mistake for the future!

I like the one above the way it is!

The one above is interesting.

That is all for this weeks mini retreat, or perhaps I should call it a mid week coffee break.

Logs OP + 36, 37, 38, 39, 40 from Virtual Quilter

Looks a bit like a giant flower in the centre if it was a queen size quilt, even on a placemat it would be a fairly big flower! Could be fun playing with colour in this design.

This is the duplicate project file which became Fishing (Log) Cabin 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 … that’s enough! just before I deleted the double.

I like the design above … even if the fish are starting to go into hiding.

In the design above it has become more of a star burst!

It has now become a rather boring design ...

Logs in an Outback Garden 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from Virtual Quilter

Introducing a project file with several variations of Log Cabin blocks along with a mixed bag of applique designs based on some of Australia’s native flora. It has taken about a month to sort out colours for the background Log Cabin blocks, but the colour of the flowers was easier as many of the varieties of flora native to this country might have different colour flowers, and most of them have red included in the family.

Some of the pieced backgrounds designs would look OK without the applique added, like the one above and below, but others, like the ...

TNT Logs + 111, 112, 113, 114, 115 from Virtual Quilter

Very interesting.

Love the second design for today!

Love the third one too.

The one above is very interesting, but too many points for my taste.

The project file these designs come from has over 500 designs in it, and each time I open it I add more.

I think I might be addicted to designing quilts in Electric Quilt, but I am not looking for a cure to my addiction! I am going to add a few more designs as soon as I hit the schedule button on this post.

Logs or Leaves 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 from Virtual Quilter

Not too sure the best way to put the blocks together, but my first try would be paper piecing, perhaps some very intricate cutting and putting the logs together before starting building the blocks.

Adding redrafted Curved Log Cabin blocks allows some very different and interesting designs!

There are a multitude of ways of arranging the leaf blocks without adding the Curved Log Cabin variations.

I have just added three variations of the design for future reference, but I like it as it is above.

Not many leaves in the last design for this Log Cabin retreat. I think I ...

Logs in the Garden 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 from Virtual Quilter

Mixing pieced with applique is interesting … though I don’t think I will ever try doing it, unless I make a really boring Log Cabin quilt top, and add some applique to brighten it up.

I like the design above …

… and love the next one.

The fourth one is nice, and leaves room for some quilting playtime.

The last one makes more use of the Log Cabin blocks with the darker contrast in use.

More Log Cabin designs mid week next week.
