I mentioned the Belknap Mill Quilters Guild in the previous post, they have provided a quilt on every bed in the rehab facility where my Dad is currently residing. It just so happened that the guild was holding their annual quilt show this past weekend. After telling dad "good-bye" I was able to stop and visit the show on our way out of town. The show was held at a local Community College, this
read moreThe Southport Quilt Guild holds its annual show at the Anderson Arts Center on the lakefront in Kenosha. The quilts are hung by the arts center staff and the show is up for a month. There's no admission fee.
View of the lake from a second-floor window. Podgaji "flags" guided visitors to the front door.
There were 75? or so quilts on display.
This was fun! Each visitor got a clipboard with a scavenger hunt sheet. ("How many points are in the star in quilt #70?" "Which quilt is named Daniel?" "What color is the center pinwheel on quilt ...
read moreI had to make sure I was up bright and early on Sunday morning, because I was going to a quilt show, how exciting! My quilt club had hired a mini bus and 11 of us climbed aboard, settled down, and we headed south to Otaihanga to Southward Car Museum. The morning started off well when the bag of lollies was passed around. "Lollies at this time of the morning?", someone asked. And why not!
We've arrived, and that's our little bus in front
The ladies taking our entry fee warmly welcomed us, and then we checked out ...
read moreWhen you take your own car on vacation you tend to pack more -- "I'll just toss this in since there's plenty of room." Same goes with driving to a big quilt show. I needed a magnetic pincushion (to replace the one that was badly cracked (about 20 yrs old)) and I wanted a needle-threader (the kind that sits on the table). I got those.
I also got a new cutting mat, half price. My table (by Tracy's) is big and the 40 x 72 mat isn't carried in stores.

read moreLast week Wisconsin Quilt Show returned to the Alliant Energy Center in Madison for the 21st year. It was begun by Nancy Zieman and Wisconsin PBS as the Wisconsin Quilt Expo, hence my blog label. This was the seventh time I've attended and the first time I've stayed overnight.
I picked up Carolyn at the Milwaukee airport Wednesday afternoon. We drove from there to our hotel in Verona, a now-suburb adjacent to Madison.
We set up the sewing machines in the hotel breakfast room / lounge. That attracted other hotel guests and we had good conversations.
Both the FW ...

On Tuesday I drove 430 miles to Paducah, Kentucky, for my first-ever AQS show. My librarian friend Terri lives in Paducah and invited me to stay at her house in town.
En route I got a call from the nursing home telling me that Stevens had very low blood pressure so they were sending him to the hospital.
Anna, my Magpie friend, and I signed up for the AQS Awards Ceremony to start the show. We had gotten our food and were chatting with people at our table. My phone rang. I went out to the lobby to talk to ... read more
Happy Easter to all who celebrate this holiday! We had brunch with my husband's family yesterday so the rest of the weekend will be quiet. My niece helped me to make a bunny charcuterie board for the brunch yesterday and I managed to get a picture before people started to nibble. I will have to make more of these for other family gatherings.
A wonderful, quilting-filled long weekend—despite the monsoon rains.
I visited Katrina this past weekend for some good girlfriend time—and the bonuses included (1) a guild meeting where Katrina was the program speaker and both of us won door prizes, (2) attending the Q.U.I.L.T. Guild of Northwest Arkansas’s biannual show, and (3) quilting the Tattoo quilt!
Katrina belongs to a longarm quilting guild, and she presented a topic near and dear to me—organization. I loved hearing her ideas as well as ideas from the other guild members.
After the meeting, we slogged our ...

How wonderful to have a quilt show in Hastings to check out during my weekend trip away, put on by Wine Country Quilts. I had a free day on Saturday before the family birthday, put the address into the Sat Nav, and after a little hiccough, finally saw the sign. Did you know I'm somewhat navigationally challenged while driving?
This must be the right place
After paying my $8 entry fee, and buying raffle tickets, I entered the door. Wow, it all looked wonderful. I love seeing big bed quilts, and there were plenty of those on display.

I made it to another quilt show! So much inspiration! I went into Portland to help my daughter with some paperwork/errands/chores and because the show opened on Thursday and I was still in town I thought I may as well go! Quilts were good, vendors, not so much.
I hope you are inspired! I loved seeing more wool applique quilts again.
Last Saturday my schedule opened up and I decided to meet a friend in Salem for the Oregon Quilt Festival. It was a really beautiful day and the drive was lovely.
Here are some terrific quilts from the show!
