Fun on Friday! from Humble Quilts

I showed this old magazine page on my facebook group after the Sisters show. It's an oldie but goodie from Gwen Marston. I wouldn't recognize it as one of hers blocks.

This week Angie sent me a remake!! She says she likes to try new techniques and like Gwen! How stinkin' cute is this?? Thank you sweet friend.

Here's another oldie from Gwen Marston- 1992. Just sharing for fun- not expecting a remake!! LOL

Here is Katlyn's finished top! Her grandmother, Alice Asleson tells me this project all started as a memory to her disabled grandfather ...

Quilting and Friendship from Humble Quilts

This little mini sampler has been on quite the journey! It is home.

Just a tad over 3 years ago my mom passed away. She had been battling Alzheimer's and so many of you rode right alongside me as her disease progressed. You encouraged me so much in so many ways.
I remember distinctly the video I made and shared with you all  the day we laid my mom to rest.
Every Friday I would take her to get her hair "done" and I'd put my radio on the oldie western music. Just this past week the video ...

Stitchin' Post from Humble Quilts

I always love to stop by the Stitchin' Post prior to the quilt show. They have it stocked to the max with new wonderful vignettes and quilt samples hanging.  Here's a breeze through the store.

Any teachers doing classes this week are completely stocked up with any supplies, books, or patterns students may need or want.

If you have never been to the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show, and one day would like to attend, let me make a recommendation. If you come any distance and only go on Saturday, the day of the show, you miss out on so ...

Quiltville Quilts from Humble Quilts

Many of you follow Bonnie@Quiltville so likely have seen these quilts, but for those who haven't seen them here is your chance. She has given me permission to share them on my blog.

I've been sleeping under this one....
And this one...

At the Inn.

And the sun set and the moon rose on my last day in Virginia.

Humble Quilts Visits Quiltville from Humble Quilts

Quiltville Inn is a work of love and muscle! I made a last minute trip to NC and Virginia while Bonnie had an opening in her schedule. I met Bonnie 20+ years ago on an online group, when the internet was new and meeting quilters from afar was exciting and very modern! I met her in Sisters, OR with a small group of ladies who were also making the Jane Stickle quilt.

If everything goes as scheduled The Quiltville  Inn will be open in spring of 2020 for your quilt group!
It will accommodate 12 quilters and will be amazing ...

Friendships on A Friday from Humble Quilts

I've said it before, I'll say it again. What I love most about quilting is the friendships I make!
Before going to the textile Museum (more on that Monday) I had a chance to visit with Laurie and see some of her "new" acquisitions and her recent sewing projects.

Look at this amazing princess star antique quilt! I love that the quiltmaker quilted the hanging diamonds directly over the applique!
This was a beautiful crib quilt with fantastic Prussian blues and that tiny scalloped binding!

I've tried to copy her decor ideas, but cannot pull it off ...

Two Thimbles Quilt Shop from Humble Quilts

On Saturday one of our first stops was Two Thimbles Quilt Shop in Bellingham.
I've really enjoyed getting to know Lee the past couple of years and I love her shop!

That stripe really caught my eye. I brought some home!

The blue urn caught my eye as well!! And check out that stripe!!
Lee was teaching me the ropes.

This is her AMAZING quilt top!

She rearranged the shop and brought the classroom out front. It has a lot of light and is a nice creative space.
 Laurie contemplating fabric.
So happy to find a shop that still ...

Coast to Coast Bee 3.0 {My Block} from Little Bunny Quilts

A new year means the start of new quilt bees, including the Coast to Coast Traveling Bee! While we decided to put off the start of this year's edition of the C2C Bee until February, I have been looking forward to this bee restarting since we concluded last year!

As a reminder, here are my two quilt tops (neither are finished quilts yet, oops.) from 2017 and 2018:

This year, I took my starting block inspiration from my new hometown -- Gettysburg, PA! I found this quilt block that's actually called "Gettysburg" and scaled it to an 18" finished ...

Friendship, Comfort and Quilts from Humble Quilts

I received the cutest little ornament from a boy whose family works in the garbage dump in Guatemala. He is trying to go to school so he can change his future.
Kelley sent me this adorable gorgeous hooked mat! This is much larger than it looks in the photo- it is about 14" across so lots of time into making this. Thank you Kelley- it is a gift that I will treasure!!

I was involved in a swap earlier this year and my swap partner remembered me this holiday! Thank you Elizabeth!! It's a notepad and it is so ...

Quilts and Friendships part 2 and Sajou winner from Humble Quilts

My room mate, Sue, worked last year in the Education Dept but we weren't roomies and worked different areas. We hit it off great! We even took a little vacation to the UK to see Stonehenge! Well, that would have been fun, but that was just Northcott's Market booth.

Because we we checking in the bus tours early in the morning we always missed the morning photo. We thought we would take one ourselves.
Debbie was my first year roomie and we hit it off immediately. She drives to the show and we try and spend time together ...

Quilts and Friendships from Humble Quilts

My take on the International Quilt Festival probably won't look a lot like anyone else's. I told my room mate, helping in the Education dept is great, but it's the friendships that keep me coming back and is the highlight of my week.
So, I'll try and keep it relatively short..... LOL

Lee is the owner of Two Thimbles Quilt Shop and is in Houston for quilt market so we only have one day that overlaps. Sunday evening after our education meeting we meet up for dinner. When I make trips to Seattle I like to ...

The Border Quilt QAL {Sawtooth Stars} from Little Bunny Quilts

My quilt is growing at a rapid pace! Check out the information about The Border Quilt QAL here!

This "round" of blocks is sawtooth stars! Here's my quilt with all of the stars added:

Since I'm working from scraps and not from yardage, I thought I would share a little more in detail about the process I use to make scrappy yet coordinated blocks for this section of the quilt.

First and foremost, I separated my scraps into one pile of lights and light-mediums and a second pile of darks and dark-mediums for my backgrounds and stars, respectively ...

Coast to Coast Bee 2.0 {Stephanie's Quilt} from Little Bunny Quilts

This post marks the end of another year of the Coast to Coast Traveling Bee (C2C Bee, for short!)

The last quilt I worked on was for Stephanie of Quilt 'n Party! Stephanie and I had been in the same hive in the Stash Bee at least once and she was also an Island Batik Ambassador last year.

Her quilt is a nature and outdoor themed quilt. In consulting with her, we decided to balance out the already added blocks featuring flowers, butterflies, and trees with some classic quilt blocks.

Here's her quilt with all of the additions from ...

The Border Quilt QAL {Join me!} from Little Bunny Quilts

I'm excited to share that I am joining in on The Border Quilt QAL hosted by Patterns by Jen!

Jen is a fellow Island Batik Ambassador and designs beautiful patterns, including this one! She was lovely enough to sponsor a giveaway as part of our Blocked Rainbow QAL this spring and I jumped at the chance to play along with her Border Quilt QAL, which starts in September!

Click this link to see a full schedule for this QAL!

The fun part about this quilt pattern is that it is written so that you can make your quilt as ...

Bake some tasty treats for your quilty friends from Thistledown & Co.

It's Autumn and that means cozy plaids, soft cuddly sweaters and scarves, the bringing out of more quilts to keep off the coming chill, pumpkin spice everywhere, and slow stitching days with friends.

I got the baking bug today and wanted to share this super easy cookie recipe that is yummy, easy and pretty. It' a great recipe when the baking bug hits you but you don't have a bunch of baking ingredients on hand. The refrigerated pie crusts are easy to keep on hand. You can whip these out in a jiffy for those last minute impromptu ...

Friends and Quilting from Humble Quilts

It's back to school! Fun to see the kids walking to and from school each day.
My bloggy friend Lizzy sent me this fun schoolhouse top.

The outside has been turned under and hemmed. Somebody obviously wasn't excited about finishing it. It was pretty dirty and does have some holes, but I've got some ideas of how I can use it.
I'm a fan of the mourning print used for the sashing.

It is so charming! Thank you again, Lizzy!!
Here's the water in my sink after 30 seconds of soaking. Ugh! I washed and ...
