What Are Quilters Blogging About Today?

Oh my goodness…blog readers, be prepared to be amazed.  I don’t know where I have been but the book I’m sharing with you today was published in December of 2021.  I know if I would have seen it, I would have purchased it because I love it.

The book is Little Gatherings from Lisa Bongean.  Just look at the quilt cover.  That quilt is great!!

There are 13 projects in the book and all of them are little…little pieces, little quilts.

I’m a Kim Brackett fan.  I don’t know that I’ve made any of her quilts…but I do have her books.  I love looking at them and studying them.  I love that her quilts are always scrappy which is a huge favorite of mine.  I put myself on the pre-order list when I saw she had a new book coming out.  The book is Scrap-Basket Knockouts.

I have spent part of the month trying to do some cleaning in my sewing room.  That has led me to access what I have in my room as far as fabric goes and what I need to use up.  Strips and strings were HIGH on the list of things that needed to get used.  I have other things I am going to take care of first but I wanted to have some ideas in place so that once I get a few more UFO projects done, I can think about something else.

I pulled out my Hawaiian Sunset quilt.  It’s a long term UFO.  I think it’s been on my bucket list of quilts to make for years and years…I’ll have to look again, but I think for over 10 years.  I had pulled fabric and had a tiny start on it.  I have the four patches that go around the quilt done and started the nice patches that are in the center of the blocks.

I needed more center nine-patch blocks and there were a few half-sewn four patches so I thought I would work on them ...

I recently contacted the company Purple Hobbies and asked them if they would be interested in sending me their Third Hand Binding Folder Clip in return for an honest review.  They said yes and asked me what size I wanted.

I am a machine binder and I cut my strips at 2 1/4″ when I bind quilts so I asked for that size and they sent it to me.

Earlier this week I finished the machine quilting on this quilt… and thought it was the perfect time to give the binding tool a try.

You might remember at the end of 2021 I had said that this year I wanted to focus on getting some of the scraps in my scrap bins used up.  So many of the totes are overflowing and I struggle to get the tops of the totes to close.  I want to do something about it…but then I got sidetracked on tackling all of the quilt leftovers I had hanging around.

I’m coming to a close on my using up my leftover so I started combing through books…and even ordering a few scrap quilt books in the ...

I was on Amazon and saw in my recommendations an over-the-door quilt hanger.  Oh my…this definitely looked like something I would like.

I ended up contacting the company and asked if they would send me one for free in exchange for an honest review.  The answer was yes.  I was so excited.

Oh, my word…I’m so excited to tell you about the latest quilt book I bought.  It’s a book about free motion quilting called Free-Motion Combinations by Christa Cameli.

Before I tell you about this book…I want to tell you that this author is my favorite when it comes to free motion quilting.

I have her first book…First Steps to Free-Motion Quilting.  I enjoyed this one.

Then I got her next book, Step by Step Free Motion Quilting.  This book, I adored!!  I still reference back to it often.  It has been my favorite free-motion quilting ...

I am on a list from CT Publishing of people who receive courtesy ebooks of their upcoming releases.  The emails come monthly and have four to five books in every mailing.  Often I don’t even look at the books as from the cover, I can tell that there is nothing in the book that I’d likely make.  This book though caught my eye immediately.  IMMEDIATELY!!

C&T Publishing sent me a quilt ebook to review, Quilter’s 10″ Square Precut Companion by Jenny Doan and Missouri Star Quilt Company.

The book is nice but I would classify it as better for someone who has quilted before.
