There's no stopping me now.................... from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

If you know me or if you only know me through the blog, you have probably figured out that I'm a bit of an obsessive person. I've now become obsessed with cleaning this mess which is our house. I go to bed at night trying to figure out what to get rid of the next day! It's ridiculous! But as I said the other day, the mood might not last forever and I'm taking full advantage of this situation.

I zipped off to the recycling depot and got rid of the extra recycling bins that were ...

Knitting mishaps from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

So I took a bunch of pictures with my camera and there was a problem with the disk. I have to retake them, but not this morning. You're stuck with a couple of pictures that I took with my phone.

It's been two weeks since we had our Monday sewing and it was great to get back and see everyone. Lots going on and there was lots of chatter and show n tell. I tucked in the ends of all the dishcloths - that was part of the pictures to show you all that I had made. Tomorrow.

Then ...

Let's sleep on it from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

You've heard the expression before - sleep on it. Well, that seems to be working like a charm for me.

I have a quilt top that's on my list to get completed this year. Can I find the darn quilt top? Nope - I have the pattern and the container with all the extra fabric, but no quilt top. I know I had the top after everything got moved back in, but where did I put it? I searched and searched and nothing.

Then yesterday morning, I woke up and knew exactly where the quilt top was. I ran downstairs ...

Oh, sheet: the backings stash, July report, and August goals from With Strings Attached

"Can I use sheets for backing?"  Someone posts such a question to online groups every couple of months.  Responses (especially on Facebook) are swift and range from "Never!" "Disaster!" to "All the time!" "Why not?"

I'm in the "why not?" camp.  In fact, I actively seek all-cotton sheets at thrift shops and rummage sales.  (Some cotton/poly blends are cottony enough, but you have to be careful: the blends from the 1970's (Kodel brand poly) are too thin and, well, polyester-y.)

A queen-sized flat sheet, hems removed, yields about 70 x 80 in usable fabric. That's nearly ...

Let it go................... from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

An interesting thing happened a couple of weeks ago. I was trolling the internet.

I know - that isn't interesting at all. I do it every day, many times a day. However, I found something interesting. We have all given quilts away - right? And some of us have found that the recipient has kept the quilt in plastic in the closet - the excuse is that the quilt is too precious to be used. You may have found the quilt being used as a dog bed. Well, better a dog bed than in the closet. Let's just hope that it ...

Straight out of Line!! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

That sounds like me! Always out of line! But actually, it's the name of a ruler by Creative Grids. Seriously? Yep. I see they have a video on their web site. Perhaps I should have looked at the video for tips?

In the midst of all this chaos, I still needed to sew and not having anything super urgent on the list, I grabbed a UFO box that was sitting upstairs. Funny how we do NOT forget our UFOs. I seem to remember each and every one.

This quilt was started as a sample for a demo on rulers ...

Weekly update, part 2: an accessory, two finishes, and the stash report from With Strings Attached

Antoinette's Quilt Shop of Plover, Wisconsin, was one of the quilt show vendors (see previous post). They make ironing board extenders in three sizes (and a 36" square mini-board).  I bought the small size -- just $50 and "free shipping to your car," as they joked.

It's made out of particle board covered with reflective stuff, batting, and heavy cotton duck.

I had a productive week in the studio with two finishes!

Here is my version of Rowan Baby, made from a pattern in  a 2005 Kaffe Fassett book.  There are no Kaffe prints in it so perhaps it ...

BACK BREAKING BACKS? from Kwilty Pleasures

Do enjoy making backs for you quilts?
Do you challenge yourself to use fabric in your stash?

I think 1 fabric backs are boring!
I dug thru my stash and found several yards
of a print I had forgotten all about.
I bought this several years ago and stored it
with a bunch of Halloween prints.

Its quite perfect for
"The Ghastlies Peep Show"
It's the SAME green that I have in the border of the top
I believe our minds
remember the colors we love!

I was at quilt retreat, and before the tables filled up,
I used ...

Weekly update: bargain books, churn dashes, a backing, Magical Mystery, and wedding wheels from With Strings Attached

We voted in the Illinois primary on Tuesday.  It will be a long, nasty, and expensive campaign season.

Saturday was Tech Savvy , a STEM exploration program for middle school girls held at Triton College in River Grove.  Pat, Janet, and I were the volunteers from the Waukegan Area Branch.  We each assisted at one of the hands-on sessions and then staffed the AAUW information table.

Check and check! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Things are going awesome! I'm checking off the quilts that need to be quilted and soon - the list will be finished if everything goes as planned.  I'm now down to FIVE quilts in eight days. I'm feeling so good that I'm tempted to add in two more quilts. If I have time, I will. One is mine and one is for a customer - a small one that just popped into my hands last week. Two of the five still need to be pieced (or finished piecing) as both are cut out and one is partially sewn ...

So the morning didn't go well so far from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

It's still early in the morning and things haven't gone as planned!

I had to get up in the night and do you think I could go back to sleep? Nope - that wasn't happening. I was going to get up, but I thought NO - I'll "force" myself to go back to sleep. Well over one hour later, I decided to read a bit. That did help, but I completely slept through my alarm and when I did wake up, my spin class was already in progress so no spin class this morning. GRRRR!  I must have ...

Note to self from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

When I came upstairs from the studio this morning at 7 AM, I had already put in two hours of work. As I fed the girls, I thought to myself, in my old world, I'd have already walked the girls, gotten dressed as I'm still in my PJs, made lunch and would have been long gone in the cold and dark to get to work.

Instead, I had trimmed a quilt, made a quilt backing, inventoried my quilting threads, and loaded the next quilt onto the long arm. Am I relaxed?  You bet! Am I loving it? You ...

The real reason I need a leaf blower from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Yes - I know it's Motivational Monday and I'll get to that in a second.

Let's just say that I found an excellent use for the leaf blower.  You do remember me mentioning the leaf blower (still in the box) that's currently sitting in my kitchen.

Brand new leaf blower in the kitchen

Let's say that a certain someone needs a haircut. No - that's NOT me.  But a certain someone who LOVES to roll in the leaves, run through the leaves and lie down in the leaves and then has the nasty habit of bringing ...
