AI and Longarm Quilting from Essie's Quilts

AI (Artificial Intelligence) is on all the news channels lately. The implications for the abuse of this technology are mind-blowing. That’s why there’s so much controversy. But AI can be so useful and sometimes fun!

Handi Quilter is no stranger to robotics and artificial intelligence. After all we have Pro-Stitcher robotic system for our machines, which everyone LOVES!  But Pro-Stitcher doesn’t talk to us……yet.

I wondered what AI would have to say about longarm quilting, so I got on the wait list to give Bard a go. Using Google to get information about just about anything ...

Temperature Quilt from Essie's Quilts

I made a temperature quilt for 2022. Have you heard of them? Just Google temperature quilts and you’ll find lots of examples!

Making a Temperature Quilt

The idea is to record the high and low temperature for each day. Assign a fabric (color) to temperature ranges and use the fabric associated with the high and low temps each day to make a block. Sew all the blocks together in chronological order and you’ll end up with a visual representation of the year’s weather. It can be pretty darn beautiful!

Choose your block

You can choose whatever block ...

The Finish – Christmas Countdown Quilt-A-Long with Helen Godden from Gwen's Quilts

At the start of December 2022 our friend, Helen Godden, started her annual Christmas Countdown Quilt-a-long. Helen is our Handi Quilter Ambassador who lives in Australia. She’s an accomplished artist and a superb stationary machine quilter. I decided to join in the quilt-a-long and take you all along with me. So today I will share my journey, some things I learned along the way, and the finish.

In the last post about this topic I showed you how I prepared my fabric with Helen’s design by tracing her pattern. I made a few changes (thanks Helen for understanding ...

Perfection from Essie's Quilts

With this series of posts about free-motion quilting for beginners, I have been emphasizing the importance of practice. I encourage all my students to quilt every day. I think of practice not as attempting to achieve perfection, but of attempting to improve. It is a way of generating new ideas and trying new techniques. Sometimes it’s just enjoying the zen of stitching with my Infinity. Never for attaining perfection.

Here is a post I wrote about 4 years ago. It’s still true today.

A friend sent me this:

I don’t know where it originated, so I can ...

Turning the Quilt Successfully from Essie's Quilts

Turning the quilt to quilt the side borders is a great technique that’s used by most accomplished quilters. It is definitely the best way when you are using robotic quilting like Pro-Stitcher, if you are really into accuracy (like me). It’s also a good technique for free motion quilters. Quilting a border all in one go is just easier. Not to mention all the stops and starts you’d have along the sides if you don’t turn.

What am I talking about you ask?

Imagine this scenario: You decide to quilt the borders of the quilt differently ...

Introducing New HQ Ambassador, Jane Hauprich from Essie's Quilts

I’d like you to meet our newest HQ ambassador, Jane Hauprich. That name just might sound familiar to you since Jane was a Handi Quilter National Educator for five years.

Jane Hauprich HQ ambassador

To get to know Jane just a bit better, (we’ve been friends and co-workers for the last 5 years), I thought I’d do an interview and share it with all of you.

HQ: What does being an HQ Ambassador mean to you?

JH: Being a Handi Quilter Ambassador means a lot to me.  First and foremost, I love my Handi Quilter machines, and love telling people about ...

SO I DID A THING....... from That's Sew Kerry

I bought a Longarm machine

Often, when you least expect it, life throws you a curve ball. Something you weren't expecting happens and you don't really know what to do, this happened to me at the beginning of the year when I was forced out of a job I loved because of poor leadership and lack of support, but as the saying goes when one door closes another one opens!

I have longingly looked at longarm quilting machines for quite sometime, but they are big so where would I put it and they are expensive so it isn ...
