Motivational Monday - checking in from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

It's a super day today. It's Monday. That means Monday sewing and time to check in for an update on what I've been doing and how my projects are coming along.

I set a goal last year to complete 12 (plus one bonus) UFO projects. Sadly there are still 7 UNFINISHED items on that list. Then I decided to forge ahead and put another 12 projects on the UFO list for 2018.

So how am I doing? Not so good it would appear. There are still SEVENTEEN projects not completed between the two lists. OH - that is ...

The Monday that wasn't Monday from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

For the first time EVER in 16 years (I think), I didn't go to Monday even though it was a Monday sewing day. Now I've missed days in the past when I was working or on vacation, but yesterday was the first time I stayed home.

I just didn't have the time. OH MY GOD - I never thought I would say that but the issues with the long arm and the level of frustration that had ensued - well I needed to stay home and focus.

Here's the definition of frustration.

Yep - that was me to a ...

Back to reality from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

On the last day of any retreat, we're always allowed to stay until 3:00 PM. That's the check-out time, but without fail, many of the participants are out of the house by 10 AM, having packed up the night before. Gosh - that's an entire day of sewing they are missing. Who cares about laundry? And how long does it take to do laundry anyway?

However, I'm happy to report that this time? Oh no - we took total advantage of the day and the four of us left didn't get out of there until 3 ...

Mission(s) accomplished from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I ran around all day yesterday and I was able to check off a lot of the TODOs from my list.

The car is fixed, the water bottle is exchanged, the long arm should arrive by Friday and the magazine quilt will be dropped at the UPS store later today (I was hoping for yesterday, but that didn't happen!)

There are a few other things that need to be done, but those can be done when I'm away. Like e-mails - I can send those from the retreat.

The car is packed and there is only ONE tote bag ...

Let's try that one more time.......... from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

You know how it is. Sometimes we struggle to get things done either because of time constraints or actually scheduling the event or we don't want to do it. We would hope that when you get something done that it's done! This week has been a tad challenging and today I get to fix things!

My car needed a wee bit of repair so I took the car in last week to get it fixed. I was happy that they could fit me in so quickly and it barely cost anything to do the repair. However, when I ...

Cutting it close from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

So I was madly working on my Trend-tex challenge yesterday. Cut, measure, slice, cut, measure, slice. Quilt, quilt, quilt. For the most part, I'm pretty happy with it, but it could have had a wee bit more contrast. Not my fault. I only used the fabrics that came in the kit. I guess that's part of the challenge! Well, something to keep in my experience file for the next challenge and yes, there'll be a next challenge.

The binding has to be made from the same fabrics. Hm - that was a challenge. I figured out what size ...

Prepping.................. from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Hm - I'm not supposed to be prepping more stuff and by prepping, I mean cutting new projects. I'm supposed to be clearing stuff up! Here's the thing - I'm off to two sewing retreats this month. I know - don't judge me on that!  It was the only time we could book the dates. And while I already have stuff cut and ready to sew, I also have stuff that needs to be prepped for my upcoming classes and so I had better make sure that I'm ready as I won't have tons of time ...

Dream BIG!!!! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I can't help it!  I'm a dreamer! I suffer from delusional doability! But you can't fault me for having goals!  I just need a wee bit more focus. However, I don't think I need to really get on my own case because while I'm not super focused, I'm way more focused than I ever was and I'm allowed a wee bit of deviation now and then. And I'm finishing projects left and right!

Let me just interject a quick sentence here about my food. I struggled to eat enough calories yesterday. What ...

I survived Easter brunch from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

No, this blog is not going to focus on food. I'll briefly tell you about my brunch experience and then we're back to quilting!

So there's this huge spread of buffet tables. A seafood and fancy meats (I'll pass on that one), an omelet table (yes), salads (hmm, none of them look low fat at all - pass), the veggies - yes, the pasta table - pass, the meat table - yes, the dessert table - of course - YES!!!  In all, I had one omelet with some bacon, ham, a wee bit of salmon, some green beans, potatoes, fruit and three ...

Grand Opening from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Let's see, it wasn't a very productive day for me yesterday. Matter of fact, I barely did any sewing or quilting. But I'm OK with that. It happens some days. What did irk me is that I "wasted" a lot of time messing around with videos on my iPad. But it was one of those restless days when I wasn't happy doing anything.

Now here's a weird fact. You know that weighted blankets have become a trend for people with Hmm - I want to say that's its Autism? Just checked that link and yes ...

Another app!! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Despite having an extended nap on the sofa (after I finished reading my book), I did manage to get some stuff done in the afternoon. I'm feeling better, just tired. Nothing that some good old-fashioned napping and liquids won't heal.

But now it's time to hit the studio. I thought I would get the big stuff out of the way while I still had some energy in me. I have a customer who always wants me to sew the bindings on for her. I'm OK with that, I charge her for it.

I had two to ...

I'm super super SUPER excited this morning!!! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

The biggest issue with going to bed so early is that you wake up early! Really early!  I need to try and switch that time back a wee bit. However, I'm happy to report that I've already made huge leaps and bounds into getting some stuff done!!!

I'm so technically competent today I almost fell over. My class wanted me to provide some notes to them. The notes would be hand drawn so how to distribute them? Well, scanning them would be the obvious choice. When I checked the printer/scanner this morning, I didn't see ...

One more day from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Have you ever noticed when you're working to a deadline that all we need is ONE MORE DAY. I wonder how that happens. I seem to have my judgement off by ONE day.

However, I'm not worried. I made excellent progress yesterday. The table runner is quilted and trimmed. Yeah! That leaves four projects (one to piece) and three days to go. But honestly, if that one doesn't get pieced and quilted before the machine goes, it can be pieced and quilted (on the domestic sewing machine) after the long arm goes. So it's not critical ...

Check and check! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Things are going awesome! I'm checking off the quilts that need to be quilted and soon - the list will be finished if everything goes as planned.  I'm now down to FIVE quilts in eight days. I'm feeling so good that I'm tempted to add in two more quilts. If I have time, I will. One is mine and one is for a customer - a small one that just popped into my hands last week. Two of the five still need to be pieced (or finished piecing) as both are cut out and one is partially sewn ...

Motivational Monday from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

It works much better for me to show you on Tuesday what I've been working on since I'm usually running around getting ready for Monday and since I'm the key keeper, I can't be late.

Yesterday was Monday sewing. Always tons of fun, always lots of work gets done. From time to time, I get a few pictures of what the others have completed. They are a pretty prolific group!

I had to laugh at Claudette though. She voiced something that I was thinking just the other day. While the rest of the group seem to ...

What we did at Sit n Sew from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Yesterday was sit n sew and we worked up a storm. Quilters can be very heads down when they want to - how focused we are - well that's another whole story. And the stories that come out at Sit n Sew - well they stay at Sit n Sew.

Ronda was back with another quilt made from the organic cotton. The second top is done and it's being whisked away to be quilted and then gifted!!!  And that green/yellow color - is it green? is it yellow? is it acid green?  It's pretty bright!

Crazy 8's quilt by ...

Finally finished - well almost from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Yesterday was a sit n sew day and we had a blast as usual. These are truly the best days and even though I was supposed to be working on other things, I know that it's important to make time for fun and friends.

Let's start with a bit of show n tell from some of the others.  This is the block that Diane is working on. I think I mentioned it before, but I had forgotten to take a picture. I love the color combination It isn't one that I would have chosen, but sometimes those ...

Big and small from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I'm not going to panic! Nope - just because I realized that I have a quilt due to a magazine on March 8 and I'm still piecing it - I'm not going to panic!

It's mostly together, it's small so finishing it shouldn't be a problem. But dang it - I knew it was due that date and somehow, it just slipped my mind. All this time working on other things when I should have had this ready for the long arm!  Let's not forget that there is another one due on March 15 so I ...

Third time's a charm! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I have to say that I'm a very lucky person. I was able to spend a great day sewing with friends on Sunday at my house and yesterday was Monday sewing. It just doesn't get any better than that and I'm very grateful for my situation that allows me to sew two full days in a row. But I often wonder if I didn't sew - what the heck would I do with my days?

I've gotten up early in the morning and sewed for years. What would I do at 5 AM if I couldn ...

One of these seams is not like the others from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Have you ever had one of those days when EVERYTHING is going your way? That must have been the case for me yesterday. I felt great and I was motivated so I took advantage of the situation.

First - a quick update. I did pop to the gym strictly to do my weigh-in. It's so crazy busy on Saturday that I couldn't imagine working out with all those people. I do prefer to go first thing in the morning during the week. So here's the good news - my weight is DOWN and my fat percentage is also DOWN ...
